The question is not whether or not the Earth will survive. It is whether or not my future grandchildren will survive. It is not whether or not life will continue, it is whether or not our lives will continue. It's not a question of whether or not global warming causes are natural or not. It's whether we can do anything about it.
You know what games I loved back in the day? Doom. And Shadow Warrior.
Those games didn't have cinematics. They didn't (really) have storyline.
They had keys.
You hunted keys. And blew up monsters. And it was fun. There was no real premise. It was an amazing game.
And not a single cinematic to ever draw you away from it.
You know what else was a great game? Quake 3. You know what the storyline of that game was? "The arena gods want you to fight!" and that was it. One of the better deathmatch games of all time.
Perhaps the world of videogames needs to take a step back and make things simpler.
Outside of Harry Potter and what's required for class, most of my peers will not touch books. (I'm a college sophomore). In fact, I've heard people say "I don't read books".
So, what does this mean? To me, not much. I'm reading The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
To America though, we may have a problem if my anecdotal evidence is a decent analog to the rest of the country.
In a race to get first post, I see you don't read the article - much lesd the summary! It says Japan and provides reasons.
And besides, just because you only know people who don't want one doesn't make you an expert. I don't know anyone who wants a Murcury Sable, for instance.
You seem to be rambling emotionally (your post is hard to follow), so I am probably making a mistake answering to it...
Slashdot is read by geeks. People who are logical minded often follow the internal logic of "Since there is no proof of God, God therefore does not exist."
Intelligent Design has been shown, many times, to be an attempt to insert religious dogma into fields which have nothing to do with religion.
Remember, these are fundamentalists who are giving your religion a bad name. Any poster who has said "all christians are this way" (such as grandparent) are usually misguided and had bad experiences with Christians in the past. I know that, in my hometown, there are many loud people proclaiming that my beliefs are wrong (I'm Buddhist). I have since learned that a large majority of Christians are very good, tolerent people.
However, geeks, by their nature, love to be right. Telling a geek he is wrong is a dangerous thing to do, as they take it very personally. So, yes, their is hate coming from our peers. But when you come to understand it, you find you shouldn't take it personally.
Ok, well. I being a dreamcast fanatic, I'm suprised at the huge numbeer of games there i haven't played...
But your list should be much shorter.
1) Nobody I know who is worthwhile to play games against will play sports games, and rightly so.
2) Dead or Alive 2 - good game, but let's not call it 4 player. It is, in reality, a 2 player game. The 'tag team' mode is somewhat stupid.
3) Gauntlet Legends has a huge problem in that you CANT BUY FOOD. This makes it simply retarted later in the game, as you and your three buddies travel back to the first level to play it over and over just to get your health back up.
4) Marvel Vs Capcom is 4 player?
5) Quake III Arena was... enh. Same thing with Unreal Tournament. FPS on a Dreamcast simply was NOT that system's forte.
6) Sonic Shuffle sucks. Period.
7) Toy Commander is fun for a very short amount of time.
8) Why would you include both Worms Armageddon AND Worms World Party? Same flipping game.
That said, Dreamcast had many, many amazing games. Rez, Ikaruga, Trizeal (came out in 2005!), Jet Grind Radio, Sonic Adventure 1+2, Soul Calibur, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Tony Hawk 2 (the last good one before the genre went downhill), Crazy Taxi 1+2, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Phantasy Star Online (and you can network it with the computer version). I know not all of those are multiplayer, but those that are have been amazingly fun. The single player games give you simply an amazing experience. MANY Dreamcast games were remade or sequeled on other systems.
I'd say the Dreamcast had one of the best lineups of games, ever. Especially when you throw on a disk with Genesis and SNES roms.
Have you listened to the radio recently? Right. Now, have you listened to some independant bands (and I don't mean what the RIAA passes off as "Indie"?
Price certanly does NOT reflect quality in the real world.
Actually, I find GNFOS posts to occasionally be funny, in a sick sort of way. This story, having no redeeming value (because it's even false), is worse.
Yeah, and what about Ansiotropic filtering, huh? A little ansio can go a long way to kill off mipmapping artifacts, which I still spot in the 360 pictures. Those bug me MUCH more than aliasing. Of course, my games are usually 1280 on the PC.
Personally, I am curious why we don't look for more grand scale technological solutions to environmental problems. We have certainly proven that we can very effectively destroy the ozone with just a little CFCs. We know how to increase global warming. Why in the hell hasn't anyone found a chemical that promotes ozone expansion or reduces global warming?
Not to mock you, but as a very good rule of thumb, destruction is far easier than creation/reconstruction. It's easy to take down a skyscraper (airplane), but takes millions to rebuild it. It's speculated that various preservatives, electromagnetic radiation, and just the general enviornment cause cancer, yet it's very costly to cure (if at all). I suspect the ozone is similar.
Usually when I borrow something I give it back.

This is actually an amazingly good point.

Curiouly, the article mentions that Shigesato Itoi may develop Mother 3 (That'd be Eathbound Two in America) for the Revolution.
*crosses fingers*

Why does it seem people only care about racism around MLK day?
You know, part of the resson they were ostricised was that they went straight to the media, not peer review.

I hope my 2:30 AM rant helps something...
I agree with your point, but to play Devil's Advocate (or is that God's advocate?)...
Being omnipotent, God can work outside any logical constraint.
Also, don't try convincing these people they're wrong. No matter what you throw at them, you'll get nowhere. You're just wasting energy. Trust me.
Is there anything comperable to adblock for opera? It's the only thing I miss from firefox.

Right... blizzard...
I thought you people were geeks here.
It's a futuristic Tabletop RPG.
You've swayed me. I'm moving to Australia. Who's with me?

So people can send out executable jpegs? No thanks.
*correction*
Windows needs to be fixed so that executables renamed as PIF are NOT executed. God that's stupid.
Man, when I read that summary, all I could think was "OMGLOLLMAOROFLWTFBBQR2D2!"
But seriously, that's good.
What this needs to be stopped is a way of educating users that "mypsace_11.com" being saved to your computer is NOT a website.

Man, the author of Ctrl-Alt-Del is my idol! I too want to sit around all day, play WoW, and draw webcomics!
That's the life.
*checks numbers*
That's funny. 18 and 19 are still part of the teens.
Huh.
...huh? Ever met a teenager? No? You DO know that the 80s, and thus the 60s, are coming back, right?
While I agree, it's not modern society at all. Society IN GENERAL, throughout time, has had contempt for the very young and the very old.
