You'd be surprised at what people will steal. My roommate at college had an old bike. It was a no-name Schwinn knockoff made back in the 70's. It was rusty, crappy as hell, and the back tire wasn't even round. He had it chained up, and someone cut the chain and stole it. When he told me about it, instead of saying something like "Sorry about your bike", I laughed out loud. He didn't see the humor though.

People will steal old beater cars too. They chop them up as there is high demand for parts for some older cars (like Hondas and Toyotas). They are usually pretty easy to get open and started too, for kids that like to go cruising around town. And sometimes a criminal just needs a car - any car will do - and yours happens to be the one most convienent to take.

I've always wondered why the current crop of hybrids don't let you plug them in. I bet you'd be able to pick up a few MPG just by topping off the batteries every night.

"[Niche website] shows that Mozilla is 20% of the browser market." --> "Damn right! Next year more people will be using Mozilla than IE!"

If we can assume the percentage of people who browse with a fake MSIE user agent in Firefox stays roughly the same over time, then we can still study the numbers to see trends. (ie. While we don't know the exact percentages, it would seem that Firefox usage has gone up 50% in the last year.)

So why would the last 5 feet make a significant difference?

Now I have seen those expensive power supplies, and I can believe cleaning up the power can help the sound quality. But really, any decent equipment is going to filter or otherwise compensate for bad power (up to a point), leaving the cheap stuff as the equipment most likely to benefit from a power supply that costs 10 times as much as the stereo plugged into it.
