  1. Hmm on Nintendo Releasing Wireless Router for Revolution · · Score: 5, Insightful
Among all the hype with all 3 consoles, I hope as much attention is being paid to game playability and fun factor.

The Genesis, NES, and TurboGraphx16 werent online (well, the Genesis was with XBand eventually), and some of the most innovative, playable games were released on those 3 platforms.

Super Mario Bros 3, Earthworm Jim, the original Metal Gear, Final Fantasy - a long laundry list of original titles.

Here we are now in the wireless age and I cant count how many shooter titles are on the Xbox, or generic RPG titles are available on the PS2. The GC clearly still holds rank with gameplay innovation, but interestingly they sit 3rd overall in the worldwide console battle.

Its kind of sad, really. The market seems to be more concerned with whether or not I can get on the net with yet ANOTHER device, instead of making games compelling enough for me to WANT to get online with it.

Since when did being (or not being, as the case is with the PS3) a WiFi device/router become the primary criteria by which a gaming console is judged?

Youre already ready to drop the PS3 into 3rd in the console wars because it wont do what an already existing, inexpensive piece of hardware you can pick up just about anywhere can do?

Call me crazy, but I thought graphic capability and its games "fun factor" were meant to be more important.

Perhaps now with the cash saved PS3 could TRULY revolutionize console gaming and include a friggin second controller out of the box.

This is a common misconception. If Firefox expects to make any serious inroads, then they must address the casual user. Word of mouth is powerful, but not that powerful. Saying it would mean everything would have to be too easy is, to me, a copout.

Strictly speaking this has little to do with security. It has to do with prevention of scripts and executables being launched without user permission. This is one of the many things FF does well. IE does not. All a casual user has to do is install FF - default settings work fine for 99% of their surfing requirements. Cant get much easier than that.

Given the fact that truths tend to be overblown and exaggerated as they are circulated among groups, damaging the business is precisely the point of criticism.

If you go to Bobs Store and Bob rips you off by falsely advertising a product that you bought, you would want to tell everyone you knew that Bob was a scam artist. The result - either people would believe you and not go to Bobs store anymore (hurting his business), or they would not believe you and choose to go. Your goal is to make sure Bob gets "his" because he broke the implicit trust you had in him when you bought something from him.

But lets just say for sake of argument that you are (or do need to).

Knowing the average intelligence of the average user is below average, how feasible is it for this user to "pick and choose" what services they want out of your utopian single OS solution?

You can "choose" to run any OS software implementations (Postgres, MySQL, Apache, etc) on your barebones Win2K3 server if you so choose. Or dont buy any of it and pick a Linux flavor. There's your choice!

If you really want your kids to run IIS 5.1 on the same box their using to chat up AOL chatrooms then go ahead and spend the extra 50 bucks on XP Pro, but seriously, besides that - do you need to sit there and puzzle over the "myriad of differences" between Home and XP?

Oh wait, but maybe you want to run a DNS server off your kid's XP Pro box. Thats a fun project.
