Maybe the solution, in addition to current active virus scanning, will be a bootable CD to scan your entire hard drive while it's passive. Find the rootkit before it can load and hide itself.
Either that, or start publically executing the rootkit authors when you find them. I'm good for either of these ideas.
But did the Mother really win? The court refused to require the RIAA to pay her legal expenses although they never had a case against her. The "Settlement Center" reportedly will lower their demands to $3500 if you talk to them a little bit. Did this single mother really come out any better than if she'd paid their extortion in the first place?
(Btw, I feel this judge is totally wrong to have not granted all legal expenses to the defendent as he dismissed her case. In my mind he has ended up punishing her as badly as the RIAA tried to do.)
It would be much more fair if you could return the TiVo hardware in lieu of the $150 for early cancellation. Without their service the chances of you using it anyway diminsh greatly.
And under what conditions can TiVo terminate your contract? Failure to pay your bill on time? Hacking the TiVo? Still having the recording of Janet's boob on it?
You're missing the point. With the new TiVo you won't still have that recording of Janet's middle-aged boob. The Superbowl is certainly a premium event, and provided that they let you record it at all, expect it to be Red Flagged to timely deletion. And don't think for a moment that someone is going to be nice and only flag the game while keeping the half-time show forever. Their thinking is not that finely granulated.
Btw, anyone know if the Superbowl DVD has that full shot of halftime? I'm betting it can't, because they wouldn't be able to sell it to many families, or in many regions, if it did.
any TiVo activated after September 6 will require a 12-month commitment.
Clearly intended to lock customers in, allowing them to further degrade the service without letting people vote with their feet. I'd say there must have been a few cancellations happening regarding their enforcement of the broadcast flag, and now they're starting to get heavy handed about it.
So what's next? Microsoft requiring you to buy a minimum number of games for your XBox360 in the first year, or pay a penality to them since they're supposedly selling you the restricted hardware at a loss?
As far as I can see, this is just another good reason not to buy a TiVo.
It comments on how some shows were ahead of their time. Well, all SciFi shows are ahead of their time, aren't they? [G] That's what reruns and DVD collections are for.
ST:TOS deserves to be #1, because that's what has brought more people into SciFi than anything else.
And while I liked the Man from U.N.C.L.E., I hardly consider it SciFi, even if he did have a communicator the size of a pack of cigarettes (later built into a pen).
And for my next demand, I want a law forcing all consumers to buy our products at the prices we, in our infinite wisdom, set for them. No more of this voting with your pocketbook -- or feet stuff. After all, we are vital to the American economy -- and yacht salesmen everywhere!
Please explain to me how I change a court that is ruling unjustly.
And to think you call yourself a rocket scientist.
Bring attention to it. Force information about it out into the daylight. Press for political change in the appointment of judges to it. Bring evidence to have its rulings overturned at the higher levels. Do anything that keeps them from just going on with business as usual.

I shouldn't have to call my Congress-critter every single fsking time about this.
This is all just another argument in favor of unregulated P2P. It's all about consumers taking back their Fair Use and Public Domain rights.
How Chinese did Evade Government's Web Controls before it was all revealed on Slashdot.
Twice the price of a very usable laptop otherwise, and with a keyboard I can barely type on.
Pass.
Brace for another lawsuit from that kooky Russian astrologer.
1: Light fuse.
2: Stand back.

Still running, huh. At what point does Voyager go out of warrenty?
I thought the reason we built big power plants was that:
1: By putting all your eggs in one basket and Watching That Basket, reliability was increased.
2: Many small generators would cost more and not be as efficient as one big generator, even allowing for larger transmission line losses.

You really need to include the cost of the MS MCE software in your bill of materials.

Well, there goes my need for AMD64.
Can you proactively defend your site by having it declared legal in a tolerant area before it becomes illegal in an intolerant area?
And just what were you trying to hide?
I agree, Stargate is much better than that.

I have. More than once.
Chinese users just have to learn how to start searching for fr33dom and dem0cr@cy. After all, that's only one step beyond searching for p0rn.
This lamp is probably showing black right now for anyone on the Texas gulf coast.
Oops, right, the power is out.

Now is that so hard?
