As a developer myself, I know that getting a patch right 1st time isn't always possible. We are after all only human. I hate performing updates of my own code, let alone somebody elses.
Users' home systems are in dire need of cleaning up, and in the most part should/can be updated automatically.
Business machines are an entirely different ballgame.
Do you want to be the one who causes the stock market to crash, or even worse?
I agree that patches should be made available before anybody releases details, but we will never have 100% takeup of them. Hell, there are still machines live and naked on the net running win 95 and even earlier unpatched systems.
Most will have a laptop, and lots of folks write a diary or journal. If your going to write it anyway, why not make it look halfway decent and public. You never know where your next paycheque is coming from, and pouring your heart out or waffling about nothingness in a blog may just catch the attention of your future boss.
Your (perfectly reasonable) solution is to fill in the scratches, and of course rinsing would clear the wax right back out.
The grandparent decided to polish the scratches right out of it, so rinsing it afterwords would be beneficial (this is also a more long term solution for slight scratches).
Not everything begins life as a multi OS super project. Many projects start on Windows, and don't run on Linux nor on a Mac, that doesn't stop things being released.
Prove the concept, then expand your market to meet demand.
And now, NanoCoolers, based in Texas, US, has developed a liquid metal cooling system that promises to be even quieter and more efficient. The system draws heat away from a circuit by pumping liquid gallium alloy through a series of pipes. The temperature of the liquid is brought back down to normal within an ambient air-cooled chamber.
I think everyone will answer the same question slightly differently, and then its down to software to parse and understand the reactions and weigh all the odds and bits until a perfect singular response emerges.
While they are coding this up, they could spare 5 minutes to handle slash dupes;)
Nahhhhhh, Roland does much more than any slashdot editor.
Taco and crew get to sit around tweaking things.
Here at slashdot, we are the reporters. we dig out the interesting stuff. In the case of Roland, I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to make money.
Also, the submitter needs to look closely at Rolands story submissions again, only Roland, or a slashdot insider can see the rejected stories, normal users do not see them, so everyone looks like 100% accepted.
Eating healthy foods is not just for those who are obese.
I was 6 foot tall and weighed under 8 stone for a long time (into my 20s). Thankfully now I am more stable and have gained a few stone, but I know I'm not the only one.
I too hope it works, and that there aren't any side effects.
Another slight side issue, there is a famous English chef called Jamie Oliver, he has pushed for better school meals (because currently they are utter shite), and it is having major effects up and down the country, and those kids who have changed their school diets also push for better food at home.
I don't think in the majority of cases this will be a problem.
Actually, in some environments this will be productive.
Just because kids have playstations and xboxes doesn't inherantly mean they are going to get fat. Some of the parents of pupils in schools simply cannot afford high tech gaming kit, so giving them an incentive to get it is extremely worthwhile (kids feel more a part of playtime conversation if they have the latest fad).
However, I would personally like a standard default available so that I don't have a different looking homepage just after clearing internet cache/cookies etc.
I'm conflicted, I agree and I don't agree.

It does depend upon the peronality.

I don't think they are going anywhere.
A large vendor could put lots of apps on a single disc.
Or, in the case of Microsoft, they need this to release Longhorn as a triple disc enterprise set.

At least you haven't followed through into the broadband era with a massive flash "intro" page.
Or have I just given you an idea..
Hang on.

Was a web page being slashdotted by ip over bongo!
They have at least one of these type of inflatable cinemas here in the UK.
Their solution to the sound is to use a low power FM broadcast.
All the cars at the drive-in just tune to it to listen to the goings on.
(This may already be standard practice in America, but the drive-in movie experience is still novel in the UK.)
Unless you find even your own cloned brain hates you as well.
(certainly not saying anything about the parent, this was a Red Dwarf plot)
This is exactly what it is.
Google.com will remain as standard.
Google.com/ig will result in custom versions.
Its very nice, the custom versions simply occupy the otherwise blank google space below and are customisable enough for most users.
You have never had to give up power for silence.
You have just had to purchase longer cables in the past.
I think you may be right.
I just found an article in new scientist:

You also distribute it to all the hungry folks within a 3 mile radius.
Reminds me of something else:
"The blast blasted blubber beyond all believable bounds"

Can we just menace the gas company execs with a big lump of moon rock?
"Give me all your gas or else!"
Note that this is part of my PhD thesis, and is as such ment as a technology demonstrator
really means:
Pleassseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee don't sue my ass.
We don't want the blue whale of death getting in the way.

Runners up in the competition get XXL t-shirts as prizes ;)

;)
The page itself is Phillip Lenssen's own entry to the competition.
The real competition page doesn't even list the participants
Why does EVERYTHING have to be cracked.
The BBC is doing something LIGHTYEARS further along than any other large network.
I can miss my favorite show and watch anytime in the next week.
Why do I need to crack it when it does what I need?
If your going to say "well in America we can't get it", then I have to say "Fsck off and bug your own TV companies to do similar".
it was just 2 pictures as they flew past each other.
I really like this look and feel.
However, I would personally like a standard default available so that I don't have a different looking homepage just after clearing internet cache/cookies etc.
