The best part about the BBC is that there are no adverts to block anyway.
In the near future, the entire library of BBC programs as broadcast will be available online. It is already happening with the radio shows and other material.
At that point, most of the torrents and other p2p links for bbc material should begin to dry up.
I pay for the BBC, and find their attitude to the web refreshing in todays over commerialised world.
I missed the latest Doctor who as broadcast last night on terrestial TV (for which I have paid a license fee). I could either drive over to my mothers and pick up her video, or I can go and download it.
(Of course, there are other perks to going to your mothers on a Sunday afternoon, no bittorrent site I ever found offered a roast dinner)
the link to linuxbios appears to be dead.
Can't see a reason why, although it has been down for a while (at least long engough for google to use the current nonesense page in the cache)
Archive.org has a history from 2000 to 2004, but the latest 2004 ones are not connecting.
Is linuxbios doomed?
Is there an alternative?
Because this is Lucas. The man who changes his mind about his grand vision more often than a typical person (not a slashdotter) changes their underwear.
You can get the speed, but a lot of providers are capping them:(
NTL just upgraded all their servers to 1/2/3 mbit.
However, customers using the oldest (bronze) service now have a LOWER cap then their old speed. It actually makes sense for those customers to NOT take advantage of the speed (300kbit with a 30gb cap), or 1mbit with a 3gb PER MONTH.
The 2 and 3 mbit service has a 30gb per month cap, but thats still pant.
It was the "+1 Informative" mod that raised my bait.
*calms down*
What are you smoking?
DVDs are region locked, designed to operate in one region.
DVDs are encrypted, designed to prevent ripping.
Certain scenes are locked and must be played through. designed to prevent skipping.
It is only because of hackers and the DVD Player manufacturers that you can do all these wonderful things you think come build in.
Because MS knows their product is NEVER going to be 100% upto date patched and ready.
A side effect of this may be a smaller, more targetted software defense update which could be applied to *all* versions of XP would help more people.
Normal Windows update for pre sp2 computer = ~200mb
Targetted Surgical update = ~10mb.
Both will prevent the trojans and viruses, but one is easier to apply than the other.
I lose an entire line of text as it displays just under the bottom of the page.
Its very very annoying actually.
Other than it doesn't work, it looks good, and the idea *could* work.
at the college where I started, stubborn programs were forced through by installing software on a clean machine and creating a diff image from it.
This diff was fed into an msi packager and pushed out in the overnight update (win 2000 boxes).
it seemed to work well enough.
i'll dig out some specifics if required later once I have both arms back (3yr old demanding beebies).
I believe his intention is to keep with Windows as the OS.
He does mention starting with the easy ones.
How do you perform a Windows based rollout, and make sure your settings are updated.
Is there possibly a portion of the group policy which would run an msi/executable update?
Your serving the webpage to me.
As long as you do it in a standards compliant way, then isn't it a bit presumptious to decide how I decide to digest the information.
If I want to use Lynx to view your page, I will, if I want to apply my own java transforms on it I will.
Hell, if I want to print it out and use it as toilet paper, I will.
You seem to have the wrong way of thinking about this web lark.
When do we hear about chewbacca?

So where can I moderate Cowboyneals comments on this story?
:)
In your hosts file.
Something like this should suit you nicely

Bullshimble!
The English language is evolving.com all the time, and new words are addendumated every year into the lexicolon.
Directional signals are EASIER to triangulate.
If you can get inside the beam that is..
THIS is the reason I try to stay in bed on Friday the 13th.
A torrent link would be commendable, but the initial base thing is that most people have flash already.
No configuring, no messing, no downloading, no installing.
it just works (for most people).
I went into the options screen, and I had lost the settings for my "Fonts and Colours".
All that was left was "Fonts & Colors" (whatever they are).
In reality, I never once noticed I had the english version until I just went and checked.
Do it the other way round then.
Put the ship inside a hole and torch the fuel in the bottom of the hole (barrel of a gun style).
Once its clear of the tower, it will already have upwards momentum, and the other rockets can continue to propel it into the sky.
It doesn't actually matter where the explosive force is coming from, as long as the ship is part of the equation.
Carmack's space ship designs suffer from a slight problem.
;)
He keeps building the Nav controls and the window too far apart, you can either fly the ship, or see where your going, but not at the same time
This helps with some rotatable monitors as well as for handhelds.
You can flip some widescreen monitors around and have a super long visible page.
It sure is better on your eyes.
They seem to be doing quite well with their little "mp3 player" thingy. Still seems a bit lame to me though ;)
One-Handed Interface for Pocket PC
I'm sure many slashdot readers would like this feature for their desktop machine.
So why get surprised?

It fucking stinks.
I personally hope Steve calls her bluff and removes Fairplay and AAC from the mix.
iTunes releasing completely unlocked 100% mp3 files.
After all, the head of the RIAA told him to...
