    I think people want it right there, right then. I believe most people will get what they need from the 7 day trial.

    It will be an amazing asset for schools and colleges etc. The 3d exploration module looks really good, and combined with being able to switch to a martian map, it increases it uses further.

    I see some of the imagary is scanned at a 3inch resolution (Las vegas for example), but the majority of the planet is at the lesser 70cm-1m range.
    3 inches! Just think about how detailed that is, they can see your Tin Foil Beany. They KNOW your wearing it.

    I live in England and would love this software, but they don't seem to have the resolution here yet (London is down as a 70cm map, I'm nowhere near there so its useless...

    Another variation gives it like this:

    and also adds a tiny bit more detail on what its used for:

    Now the part that might concern us all...

    Combining observation platforms of many nations enables all nations to share information. In April, 44 nations and 26 international organizations formally approved the establishment of a global earth observation system.


    Why would an organisation be involved in a worldwide monitoring network?
    Also, can anyone find out which countries are involved?

    Uhhhhhh isn't a cheque linked to your account just like a credit/debit card?

    The only way to not automatically link card to person is paying by cash.

    Even then, if they wanted you based soley on your loyalty discount card, they could lookup the purchase times with the security cameras.

    Heck, for the majority of people, the local store will be used all the time. Just have the feds wait for you to next visit.

    Suppose in your regular innocent shopping trips you happen to (over the course of a couple of months) purchase all the ingredients of a bomb.
    Now, everything you purchased at the time had a completely legit, innocent reason, but the feds decided to start mining this information.

    I think the most worrying part of the entire pig video experiment is that its probably doing enough traffic to actually buckle the server.

    Some poor admin now will be taking calls from his legitimate customers and have to tell them that they cant get their emails because someone posted a pig fucking link to slashdot.

    I don't think subjects should be entirely dropped, that would be to the detriment of the individual.

    I think that simply being more flexible with the schooling time would benefit the children by allowing themselves to shine in the subjects they are good at, whilst still keeping the basic general understanding of other subjects.

    Essentially put a grading on each lesson, and a relivence to its subject.
    You point out mathematics, I wouldn't consider allowing students to come through without any, but at the same time, I wouldn't expect a chef to need to know how to calculate the square root of a negative number.

    They are REALLY making the cd purchasers suffer.

    I don't actually think the activation is the problem, since that should just be essentially a single packet.
    It will be all the people actually setting up steam accounts that they won't have ermmm accounted for.
    This makes sense in the way people are describing their experiences, you have already registered, and have essentially the same content on your machine as a CD purchasing user.

    The only difference is you already have an account, and the normal purchasers dont.

    The update now process should be an executive decision.

    A big gold control console where he can walk up to and feel important. Bosses need something to make their job justified.
    It flashes in his office only when updates are pending (along with the requisit SMS, call, email, memo, 2nd SMS, another followup call etc etc.)
    The people on the shop floor so to speak don't need to be bothered by these things.

    Windows update on a default xp install is so invasive in this manner, it bugs everyone from the junior temp to the big boss.

    Unfortunately, a monthly pay cheque is more important than pissing off a group of us geeks.

    Our principles are important to us, and there are limits and boundaries. There is a fine line we must walk.

    Its like spam, I gather at some point or another, most developers in a company will be asked to produce a "marketing deployment interface".
    All well and good to keep in touch with your existing customers, then it gets a bit cloudy when they ask for an extract from this cd they just bought.

    We can raise our concerns, but if we forcefully decline, then its time to look for another job.

    Remember, a few people still work at SCO.

    I understand your concerns, and I also can't see a clear solution to it.

    Not at least while we have fixed mandated subjects.
    Whilst school shouldn't be a free for all, it should at least be an environment where generalised topics of interest can be studied more intently by those who wish to.

    Perhaps shorter lessons on the poorer subjects, leaving more time to polish the outstanding ones. We worry too much about getting average grades in all subjects than outstanding grades in your best ones.
    The human race has survived for thousands of years without a fixed education program, and his filling the heads of kids with irrelivent crap is a new thing. Dynasties and family traditions meant your family indicated your genetic speciality, some people are farmers, some are bread makers, some are scientists, some are fighter pilots etc etc etc.

    I'm a tech, I come from a tech family, always have been, lower quality/standard in my English than with science/tech subjects, I would have jumped at the chance to do more technical studies instead of struggling through poetry and literature.
    If my early schooling opted to teach me C language instead of French, I couldv been 5 years ahead of here I am now.
    I have never been to france, and even if I go, I won't remember a word of my lessons.

    NEVER purchase or borrow somebody elses RFID jammer, you can't be sure of its origins or whether it has got any covert snooping devices installed.

    Most people who use p2p do so from their homes.
    Theres only a small portion of the community that could upload enough files to warrant the hefty fines imposed.
    Just because a person is caught with 900 gig of music shared on kazaa does not mean its been uploaded thousands of times.
    I could share many terrabytes of data, but it would take years to upload it all to extremely determined people.
    The RIAA don't seem to take this into consideration, and definately in the media its portrayed as (shared folder listing=file contents given to all those people).

    No, Walt is currently stored in the freezer in a jiffy bag.
    In another 20minutes or so, they are going to get him out and connect him back up.
    Maybe his head will come unstuck for long enough to recover those last files before total failure.

    Doesn't this sort of thing happen all the time?

    If I remember rightly, the Batman sequals are now done by a totally different crew to the first ones.

    Besides, its a kids movie and whilst my eldest grew up with Woody & Buzz, I don't think he would even notice, nor care that it was rendered using different settings.
    When this is released, he will most likely see it. He may like it, he might not - but who's to say Pixar could stretch the series into a trilogy anyway?
    It will be interesting to see what they do with it.
    Little Andy is growing up, by now he shouldv put his toys down and picked up a playstation or be installing his first distro.

    Woody: "OMG FIRE! FIRE!"

    Not on technical ground mind you. On writing, plot design, and general creativeness they failed. The very fact that their first movie is a sequel of a sequel should tell you where they are coming from.

    Disney have been making movies for longer than youve existed on this planet for.

    Granted, theres a lot of shite in there, but we are talking about a single studio.
    It was innevitable from the start that Disney would either swallow them up, or learn from the principles. Pixar was nothing more than a convenient waypoint.
    Large megacorps all work the same.

    I know you run under slackware, but perhaps if you wrote a nice letter to Symantec, they would produce a virus checking module for you.

    Theres a lot of people giving really good advice in this thread, the most important appears to be - get consistant help from a reputable vendor. Build up trust with a good doctor, this is already a long term illess you are living under.

    I hope you stay on the road to recovery :)
