You are right, you can't just goto hooverdamn.com and command the system, however if you telnet into 216.187.103.169 on port 585 at exactly 4:45am on a Sunday morning and transmit the entire text of the US constitution replacing every reference to the word "State" with "Chicken Burgers" you will be given a key which can be used once exactly 14 seconds later from a specific IP address to gain control of the system.
Please note that if you mistype the phrase or time it wrong you and your family will never be seen again.
I agree with this statement as much as the grandparents.
Its no use trying to work on a project which you have no affinity for.
My first public jump into Open Source was helping to fix the Flashblock addin on firefox. When flash 8 came out it stopped working, so I took the dive and started pottering about with the code. After a few inital stumbles I found the right balance and was able to code up a solution to the problem within the existing framework. (My initial codefix was OTT and essentially rebuilt the entire thing, my sig is appropriate...)
There is hope then. If one company can do it, then so can others. At some point they will realise its a waste of all their time, or we will end up with a server room fist fight broadcast on youtube.
Actually, just reading the title made me wonder why youtube needed some kind of work visa. It was only when I read the blurb I realised it was a video codec.
Actually, it very likely is to do with the new panels.
: the Russian segment of the station uses 28 volts dc (like the Shuttle). In the rest of the station, electricity is provided by the solar panels attached to the truss at a voltage ranging from 130 to 180 volts dc
If something has leaked into the russian side then these machines could be totally dead.
Part of the problem has already been solved with OpenGL.
However, gaming is not just about graphics, we need sound and controllers and communication and a nice way to degrade in the absence of these pieces.
If anyone, John Carmack is the guiding light, most of his engines utilise cross platform code.
We should be following in his footsteps (just don't try to shoot and see where you are going)
So finally we have the answer.
3d Realms are waiting for the adoption of Linux before releasing Duke Nukem Forever!
Actually, MS have done quite well with forwards compatibility.
.com executable files written well back in the mists of time and run usable programs.
I can still double click on
For example, here is a version of Visicalc from 1981!

We would have coped the same as always, we would rant and rave and generally work ourselves into a tizz, then get back onto our normal day jobs.
There is hope for us yet.
Did you know, there are 773 words on that article page.
I believe the lyric is "forget norway"

Viewing the page on firefox displays the printer dialog.
I gather this is a side effect of peoples obsession with removing adverts.
I would rather find the link myself than have things popup and interfere with my surfing.
While you are welcoming them, could you ask them why Episode 2 is taking so long?
I just tried it and Commander Lockley looks extra sexy with a goatee
Metric conversions seem a bit 'odd' on both the article and the proper page:
Dimensions:
* Small: 150x400 cm (59x157 inches).
* Medium: 150x400 cm (59x197 inches).
* Large: 150x400 cm (59x236 inches).

It doesn't actually, reading the quotes:
Borra envisions a telescope with a liquid mirror measuring 66 feet to 328 feet wide.
The instrument that is yet to come is the Lunar Liquid Mirror Telescope, based on a 20- to 100-metre mirror consisting of a spinning liquid.
Both give a range of figures not actual dimensions.
66 feet = 20.1168 meters
328 feet = 99.9744 meters
I always thought the BBC player using MS formats was a short-term measure.
Wasn't it called Dirac or something?

win-win I say.
If I remember rightly, you cannot (easily) post to slash from a proxy server.
When you submit a comment don't they ping the regular proxy ports on your computer and refuse the comment if discovered?

Its ok, I;ll stand outside under one of the new shelters they are building.
If IBM delivered the goods as per the order then no matter what the management say the invoice is outstanding.
I can see some school board in the near future saying "OMG we bought 250 HD-DVD decks but they are turning out to be obsolete and useless."
Tough, you made the order; we delivered; pay up.
Cos if we can get webmail onto the list, maybe there is a chance we can get slashdot comments done as well.

You are right, the only reference to Interworld I know is from the Nivens' Ringworld novels.
From another perspective, the same data and software could be used to accurately map the locations and whereabouts of every person in public space.
Kind of like the automatic license plate detection for the london congestion charge, but on a human scale.

And then the side in the shadow can act as a pretty damn good radiator.
