    Login to slashdot and assign modifiers to comment ratings you want to hide or see.

    Browse in bliss with a high signal to noise ration (or vice versa).

    The slash commenting system is not perfect, but its very very good at what it does.

    I would like to see its principles used in more places.

    People do not instantly jump onboard a project without seeing some benefit themselves.
    If you cannot code, discuss it with some of your coder friends, write a blog about it, ask slashdot (you could have told us what it was about).

    GET PEOPLE INTERESTED.

    I also have lots of ideas and have spent the last 6 months picking up my c skills and learning about Linux. I did not sit down waiting for someone else to write the code, I got off my ass and learnt how to do it.

    Its been a hard slog and often I've wondered whether its worth it, but lots of nice things are starting to become possible with my code.

    If you do not put in the hard work you cannot expect others to.
    Additionally, if you think you will get bored of a project partway through then is it really such a good idea?

    Think about most of the successful products over the years:
    they exist for a long time and I would hope the original visionary was still there to guide the process for a long time :)

    agreed, NTL and telewest (now Virgin Media) have laid down a great deal of this fibre network already.

    The cost to finish laying to the entire country is probably included in the 5.1B (fibre to the street)

    I believe they are talking about the logs kept by the ISP rather than anything stored on the machine itself.

    Its currently the same situation for users who delete their own history, its gone from the local machine, but that does not mean it was not logged elsewhere.

    I wonder how the browser privacy feature will work regarding external content from sites:

    flash files store preferences outside of explorers' reach.
    java applets get placed outside of the cache.
    movies files play outside of ie.
    pdfs might open outside.
    word documents listed in word recent files list.

    theres many more programs and protocols which would leave tracks.

    people expecting privacy mode to actually keep things private are going to be in for a BIG shock.

    It is not that it will save money, it is that that money can stay in the local economy.

    I think paintings and sculptures do not fall into uncanny valley because they are stationary and unmoving.

    No human can remain THAT still and be alive hence no real problem.

    Polishing anything requires a lot of skill to get it right.
    Its just as easy to screw up your cd than to make it better.

    Learn how to carefully polish things before you start and practice on things you don't need.

    Toothpaste will not remove scratches that you can feel, but it may clean out the grooves of the scratch enough for them to be read.

    If in doubt, speak to one of your friends who buffs and polishes their car every weekend - they will likely have the tools, polishes and most importantly knowledge available to cure your problem.

    And when planes fly overhead and take pictures anyway, what are you to do?

    The government is one thing and can get this redacted easliy, but if google earth had to hide the data within the boundary of every single area of private property we wouldn't be left with much.

    n8x0 has an ARM11, its all packaged inside an OMAP2420 from ti.
    It even looks like we will be using the powervr 3d soon as well.

    Multitouch would be nice of course, but I don't hold 2 styluses at the same time.

    CPUs with correctly seated heatsinks which stay within their prime operating temperature usually have no problems.
    However its rather easy to get the wrong amount of goop or something else wrong with the airflow, or just a marginal chip, etc

    I had an AMD t'bird 1.4ghz which would NOT run happily at 1.4ghz no matter how much I tried.
    In the end I gave up and ran it happily at 1.33 for years.

    technically, don't you just "rectify" the issue by purchasing a license from microsoft when they tell you its dodgy?
