    I took it as meaning:
I can write a decoder/viewer program for decoding encrypted DRM streams and playing them back, but I cannot use DRM measures to restrict how that software is installed or used on peoples machines.

Unless there is some other reason for wanting the data, then I see this as reasonable.

  9. Fired for overtime! on Piracy Setup Discovered in WV Capitol Building · · Score: 5, Insightful

Ferguson recently fired two division staffers, Gary McClanahan and Gary Bryant, after they claimed they had worked 18-hour days 119 times over the course of 2 1/2 years. Ferguson said a $466, 24-inch flat-screen computer monitor was found in Bryant's office but that no evidence suggests either man orchestrated the computer purchases.

Sometimes, an 18hour work day is exactly that.
Some places allow practically all the overtime you can log - simply because its cheaper to let you work greater hours than to hire/train somebody up to your role.

Firing them because they were hard workers is wrong.
Firing them because they made fraudulant claims is right.

(they do sound like the BOFH and PFY though don't they)

  10. Re:Adsense on Google Jumps into Radio Advertising · · Score: 1

I would imagine that google can help radio adverts by contextualizing them.

If your advert is one amongst hundreds in the adsense basket (ie, Sleepy Happy Docs Good night tablets) it makes no sense in your advert being playing at 8pm on a Saturday night whilst the heavy dance music is playing, but what if during a talkin show at 3pm somebody is talking about lack of sleep, your advert would be PERFECT there, and more likely to gain sales.
Sure, you could just target your advert for the middle of the night, but its better to add context.

Use it in context, when the user says "my computer has 40 giga bites of memory" I automatically replace with drive space.

I can understand the general publics lack of understanding regarding computers, but its people in the industry that piss me off more.

Case in point, one of my colleagues (developerish) was really baffled why the computer had 248mb of memory and assumed some sort of none standard memory stick.
