I was going to mod you a troll, but since you're other posts in here are reasonable, you must honestly be missing the point.
I believe the original poster's point is that if the converter is built in, then you will end up having to convert the energy twice. If you use solar, and get DC current from it, then you could convert from DC to DC with acceptable power loss. However, if there is a converter built into the device, then you have to convert from DC to AC simply to power the device that will convert back from AC to a different voltage of DC. This means you had to convert twice and experience power loss twice.
If it were that easy, somebody would have done it a long time ago. The problem is that adding fuel tanks adds weight, a lot of weight. Most planes a designed to carry a certain weight of cargo, including people and packages, but just adding that much weight in fuel does not get you that much more.
By using a smaller plane they can use much less fuel at a time, and they worked very hard to get the exact mixture of fuel-weight ratio. Simply adding another tank would throw off the whole equation. You have a lot more weight and while the amount of weight may go down over time as the fuel is used, you have to have a bigger engine simply to take off. Even when the extra fuel is depleted you still have the extra weight of the fuel tanks.
The idea behind this airplane is to use just enough fuel to keep itself in the air. It's the only way for the plane to hold enough fuel to circumnavigate the globe.
Popular Science did a great article on this a couple of months ago.
I have a regular old Leatherman Super Tool. I take it with me everywhere and use it all the time. The blades lock and are thicker than on many other multi-tools. It's just a great tool.
First off, I would like to say that your complaints are completely rediculous. Now, since you're obviously close minded enough to have made your decisions about the bill before you read anything about it, simply based off of who created it, you're probably not reading this anymore. However, I'll explain why you're being rediculous anyway.
"The act doesn't make the source code open."
I sure as hell hope so. I mean, we wouldn't wanted somebody with a clear agenda of manipulating the election to insert obscure hack code into the system that would be awful.
"The bill requires background checks on programmers."
Your belief this means open source software could not be used is not true. The programmers of the linux kernel would not be the programmers of the voting machine. They would simply have created a tool to help those programmers. Unless they write the entire system in assembly, the programmers will be allowed to use tools created by other people, such as the people who created the C programming language, or the people who wrote the base modules for it, such as io or string modules.
"The bill prohibits distributing voting machine source code over the internet."
This would be devastating, if it were true. While I admit this is a very badly phrased portion of the document, it doesn't seem to mean what you think it means. First off, if you were trying to quote it you failed miserably. The actual line says "The manufacturer shall ensure that any software used in connection with the voting system is not transfered over the internet." I'm honestly not exactly sure what the intent of this line is, but if I had to guess, I would think it meant the code kept internally to the company. So that no one can change the code over the internet. The idea this prohibits open source also indicates that it prohibits just about every proprietary piece of software out their. They certainly won't be able to use windows, you can't run windows securely without the security updates that you get on the internet. Not to mention microsoft would never let their code be seen by any citizen that fills out the right request form. Even if this does mean flat out what you think it does, that none of the program can ever be available on-line, this STILL doesn't prohibit an open source base. A NetBSD based system is not the same thing as NetBSD, and the BSD license does not require free distribution like the GPL. So based on that, BSD could still be used.
As an American I must say that I think it's a mixture of both lawyers and the media. Since I believe every American is either a lawyer or a member of the media, this represents us all better than you could imagine.
Well, I watched the preview and I can give it to you in text form.
1) Show several images of the Sept. 11 Tragedy.
2) Show the only images you can find of George W. Bush NOT flubbing his words.
3) Show several images of arab terrorists beating people and such.
4) Wrap it up with "Learn the truth behind the lies" or some such thing, I'm not going to watch it again just to see the stupid line so I can quote it.
Now one might ask themself what this has to do with Fahrenheit 911 or even the war in Iraq. However, as we have seen from this administration. There doesn't have to be a connection, we can just take the train in Mr. Roger's house to imagination land and pretend there is. Of course, then we would shoot all of the puppets for being terrorists. ..
I ask, because quite frankly this columnist has the English skills of an average hacker. Run on sentances, general bad grammar, starting paragraphs with the words "but", or "then." While I honestly don't think it was hacked, what is going on? I'm no English major, but this article is pretty bad. Especially at the professional level. Is this just the sad state of journalism on MSNBC?
It's a good suggestion, but it's so much nicer to take notes for yourself. Easier to read, the whole idea of notes, is to take note of things that YOU think are important, not simply to transcribe what the teacher says. If you can do it by yourself, it is just so much easier to look back over your own words and review what was said.
I'm in no way related to the poster of this problem. However, I can totally relate. I have a motor control problem that I have had my whole life causing me to shake, you wouldn't notice if you didn't see my handwriting, or if I held my hand out in front of you.
The movement is minute enough that it doesn't cause me to miss keys on a standard keyboard. However. because of this, I write painstakingly slow. Often too slow to take usefull notes in a lecture class. I use a laptop to take notes, I have used a computer to write papers since 5th grade. this was highly unusual in 1993, but my teachers were greatful to be able to read my papers. At this point I am pretty off the subject, but it is because of this, that I got into computers.
I too would install it if that were the case. Although I'm sure I would get annoyed and turn it off from time to time. I wish you could get modded above 5.
It says right on the site that there IS the option to middle click and open a new tab. It just isn't supported by the latest Stable build of firefox. Expect it to work by.9.3 or 1.0.

If you look in the last couple of frames as the things fly toward the screen. You can see Alan Smithee's phone #, how about somebody calls him and asks him what's up. It is also the number in this article about opendoc, but that was in 1996 so maybe it got reassigned.
Even better. . . Shatner will actually be playing two characters. His grandfather, and future Kirk. Future Kirk will kill his still childless grandfather and really try to mess with the minds of viewers. This way, they can attempt to destroy the need for continuity. Then they can do whatever the hell they want.
I have to strongly disagree with you. Companies that genetically engineer or selectively breed plants spend a lot of money to do so. As with pharmaceutical companies, patents are necessary to pay for the recearch and effort that they have put in. I do, however, believe that this type of patent should have a short life span (3 years maybe).
I just have to say that this has to be the oldest story I've seen on slashdot. It has to have been at least 2 years since I read this in Popular Science.
Back on subject, it is a nice design, two button batteries and a tiny camera. I do have to wonder, what type of quality the camera gives, I have yet to see any actual pictures from it.

I'm afraid in a sense the SCO group is using Linux's greatest strength against it. There is no owner of linux that is able to claim that they are being harmed by libel. Red hat cannot even do this because they technically do not sell linux. They sell a packaged bundle of usefull linux tools and support that happens to come with linux as well. Of course I'm not a lawyer.,br> -> Fritz
