I think what your forgetting is customization. I can never play a game like UT2k4 on an Xbox and download all the crazy mods that people make. Someone made a duct tape mod for Doom 3, which is somethin that console games aren't equipped for since they don't install the game on the hard drive.
Another thing that goes a long way for me, and my friends as well is a keyboard and mouse. Even with a hacked up controller with a keyboard, and an addon mouse, Doom 3 will never be the same as it would at a desk in front of a monitor.
I read a rumor in a mag that said that WoW might be coming to PS3 and XBox 360. With the amount of UI customizations that are required to play that game, I don't see how anybody could consider playing it without UI customizations, especially end game content that requires 40 man raids. Its honestly not doable, and without a connection to voice software like TS, forget about it.
You're also forgetting about graphics. As nice as the PS3 and Xbox360 look, they always look better on a compuer monitor. WoW looks like ass when playing at 640x480, but is GORGEOUS when playing at 1600x1200, which offers picture quality which TVs can never offer, even HD.
Also, for me personally, I could never play a game where I would not be able to take screenshots. The customization just isn't there, and without it, PC games will never go away.
Here's an interesting one. For some reason my Radeon 9800 XT won't bind (for lack of a better word) to Direct X with SP2. I install the drivers, and it won't use it for the fade effect. Real nice when a $500 video card (at least when I bought it) lags when I right click. I tried to install new drivers, same thing happened....luckily I was able to system restore.
You know, I can't even say that all imports are good, like Hieneken. Now, I've been informed that overseas, Hieneken is a whole different beer with a larger alchohol content, but here, its trash. I've come to the conclusion that if you can walk into 5 bars within a 10 mile radius, and find any particular beer in each, it probably sucks.
They really do make nothing but garbage. At a local beer bar I go to that brews their own bar, they will ask you to leave if you try to order a Budweiser...or anything else from that trash "brewery" and I use the term brewery loosely.
While it would be nice, I also hate the controls. I love the little bar they have at full screen, and I hate the new bar that takes up the entire bottom part of the screen.
I never upgraded to 9 from the XP player. I hated how it would snap the picture in and out of place when you moved the mouse during full screen. I would play an episode of Enterprise, and put my feet on my desk, the mouse would move, and the screen would snap. It was extremely annoying. If 10 is the same way, I'll stick with my default player. A way to uninstall it would be nice also.
I've had a hardware firewall for years, and never had a problem. I've had intrusion attempts, and non have been successful. Why should they force me to turn on their software version now? My setup is fine the way it is, I don't need them stepping in and telling me whats best for my network security that I have already set up and tested. The option to turn certain features on and off would be nice during setup. That way I won't have to go through and disable everything they threw at me. My installation of SP2 was a nightmare. I certainly won't be installing it until some of the kinks are worked out. For example, my entire system should take a shit every time I right click and pull a menu with the fade effect. I have a P4 3.0, 1 GB of RAM, and a Radeon 9800 XT, yet my system could not handle a fade effect or move a window.
Actually, Blizzard used BitTorrent for the World Of Warcraft Beta. They seeded it, but it saved them a hell of a lot of bandwidth by doing it through torrent.
I have 2.4 GHz phones in my house, and it does not interfere at all with my wireless network. However, with a friend of mine's, whenever we have a LAN party, he takes his 2.4 GHz phones off the hook, because it kills the network whenever someone calls. It was funny when we were all playing a game of WC3, and someoen called, and half the players lagged out and dropped.
I can agree to that, but I refuse to view popups. Ads on the top like/. has don't bother me. Its the pop ups and flash ads that bug the hell out of me. I think thats taking it a step to far, so I block those. Regular ones don't bother me.
I disagree, I think it is perfectly moral to not view ads. When I listen to the radio, I have the option of turning on my CD player when commercials come on, or changing the station. The same goes for TV. I don't have to watch the ads. With webpages, the ads are forced down my throat. I don't have a choice unless I block them, so I do. Half the ads are pointless anyway. Shoot the monkey and win whatever. Click here to claim your price. Shit I don't need. If they advertised something useful, and if they weren't popups or software that is attempted to be forced on my computer when I'm not looking, then I wouldn't mind.
I guess it's more about their tactics that bother me. I honestly don't mind the way fileplanet does it. They just interrupt your surfing through their pages by making you look at an ad, then tell you to continue. Its annoying, but so are commercials. I'm not paying for fileplanet, so I can't complain. they even tell me I don't have to see them by sending them 5 bucks a month. No popups, no annoying banners in the middle of a sentence, just an interruption. I can live with that, it respects me, and my viewing, and is the closest thing to a TV commercial that I think they can make.
I agree with most of what you said, but you need to understand. If I go to a diner for a cup of coffee while a friend eats, and my waitress is constantly filling me up, and on top of everything, I'll give her a tip bigger then the cost of the coffee (Coffee $2, tip $4). If she doesn't care, and I need to keep calling her over and asking for refills, I give a shitty tip if anything at all depending on how bad it is.
Same goes for web pages. Why should I go to a site with shitty content that pops up ads left and right? Look at Maddox. NO ads, NO popups, great content. I would pay for Maddox, I might even buy a shirt, just to support him. So, it goes to show, there can be good sites without ads and popups, that manage to get large amounts of traffic just because of their content, and in that case, I'm willing to support the site. I am not however, willing to support a site that forces me to look at the ads, and has shitty content.

I need to agree....but honestly, who here wouldn't want to play a video game remake of Pulp Jesus?
Sounds like some anime's I've seen. If anyone has watched all of Dragon Ball Z, thats sort of what the Matrix was. Neo, like Gokou kept getting stronger and stronger to fight Smith, who was like [Insert Villan Here]. The silly part about it was that during the last fight scene, I felt like I was watching DBZ live. I mean, the flying, the explosions, etc. It had potential, but it turned out to be one big shitty story.
I bought a GC because of Wind Waker...Zelda to me is my favorite video game franchise. Getting the cleaned up version was also a treat. I replayed through Master Quest....hell of a lot of fun also. Now the only gripe I had, as great as the cleaned up version of Ocarina was, it doesn't come close to the emulated version. Something about 1600x1200 res and full AA that just makes me drool...
My problem personally was that adult Link from Ocarina was so fucking awesome looking. He looked like a badass. Someone that could save the day, a hero.
Then Nintendo gives us Majora's Mask. ...
I think the only word I can use to describe MM is garbage. No badass adult Link, no princess, no Master Sword, no Hyrule Castle, just Link running around like an asshole trying to find masks, most of which didn't do anything except get different responses out of people...[sarcasm]gee, thats innovative[/sarcasm].
Now comes Wind Waker. I had very high hopes for this game, and when I was actually playing the game, it was really fun, but half the game was spent in a boat using a crane to find treasure. BORING. The traveling of Wind Waker was horrible. Really lost some of the fun of the game when throughout half the game im on a boat.
Nintendo struck Gold with Ocarina. It's nice to see they're going back to something that works. I also hope in this game he has an Ocarina, like he is supposed to, not a stupid little baton so he can compose music in the air....
Well, then right back at you. Microsoft cannot be a monopoly, but they can have one. Maybe before you call someone stupid, you should check your grammar.
On another note, MS does not have a monopoly. They are close, but not quite there yet; a quick check on dictionary.com references a monopoly as: "A company or group having exclusive control over a commercial activity." If Microsoft had exclusive control over all computers, there would be no Macintosh, no Linux, and no Unix. Think before you speak please, and maybe we can discuss this matter politely without the flaming.
Point taken, but think of this. Back in 1990 a lot of the illegal activity wasn't easily accessable. If they could keep it out of the newspapers by bribing the editors, the people don't know, and in the public's eye, it doesn't matter. Lets fast foward to today. Most people read their news on the internet, and information is found a lot easier today. I'm sure if Real Media decided to bring out their own OS (which I'm willing to bet would NOT come with a version of Quicktime), or hell, even their own Linux distro, Microsoft's illegal games wouldn't fly as easy. Take a place like this. Real Media's announcement of their OS (Real OS?) would be posted here, and the usual 500+ comments would follow. From that point on, people would follow the story. As it turns out, almost everyone knows a geek, and word would spread. If MS tried anything to kick them in the ass, then they'd be kicked right back by public opinion. Its not as easy for them do to do anything like that anymore. Now as far as them hiring a gang to torch Real Media's offices.....thats another story...
Agreed, but as you said, people usually don't upgrade until their hard drives die, but if they were forced to upgrade to something other then Windows while their hardware is fine, I truly think Linux would be the only option for a lot of people. If my mother was told when she got home today from work that she had to stop using Windows because Microsoft was revoking her license because she was a Linus sypathizer or something stupid like that, she wouldn't be able to afford a Mac. She NEEDS a computer, so she would be forced to use Linux. She wouldn't be happy, but she would be forced to learn something new. While she can barely use her PC as is, she has learned to do the basic functions that she needs to do, as I'm sure she would in time learn with Linux also.
Another thing that goes a long way for me, and my friends as well is a keyboard and mouse. Even with a hacked up controller with a keyboard, and an addon mouse, Doom 3 will never be the same as it would at a desk in front of a monitor.

You almost made me run to the store. WHEW.

You drink Budweiser...don't you...we know the truth.

They dont sell garbage. Not every bar in America sells Anheuser-Bush products.

My record on XP is 65 days. Worked like a charm, and alas, the only reason for the restart was a security update as well....

I still play my SNES games as much as my other systems, on my Xbox :P
