Ford owns part of Mazda, and they both produce an identical SUV... with different name badging.
Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute. I have an Escape, and my buddies girlfriend has a Tribute, we didnt notice they were exactly the same til they were parked next to each other one day... (we knew they were pretty similar prior)
Just like Colin Powell, always have an exit strategy. For me, its as simple as keeping good backups, and using Visual Source Safe to keep versions. Rolling back is easy, and if shit happens, I can get everything back to how it was within an hour.
Yea but thats not whats happening. Its more like...
Start conversation with a bunch of people from around the world, speaking english, on some particular topic (ie Simpsons, Slashdot, etc)
Large number of Brazilians come in and hijack the group, flooding it with messages in Portuguese
Group becomes unusable for english speakers all around the world (not just us Americans)
If the Brazilians were nice enough to fork and create groups that discussed topics in Portuguese, it wouldnt be a big deal. Orkut should have an upgrade right now, providing an "official group language" field for groups, so one can tell if they're joining the "Simpsons - English" or "Simpsons - Portuguese" groups. But many of the Brazilians walk in, act like they own the place, and hijack Orkut. I dont use it anymore for this reason.
Is their goal to saturate the market with so many models they'll just win by random choice? That sounds like crap to me.. but then I'm an engineer, not a marketing exec.
Still, if their phones suck then no one is going to buy them. I bought my nice Moto V600 because it had the features I wanted and wasnt a hassle to use. Nokia made the goddamn buttons so small on their phones and in such stupid designs. Make a cell phone thats easy to use and works well... doesnt need to be art-deco looking.
This is perhaps one of the biggest positive aspects. A two-ride pass is less than $6, about the cab fare to go from, say, Caesars to the LVCC. I really see it as a tool for conventioneers. The only downside is that it goes right by the Sands Convention Center, but doesnt stop there.
Yes, all those strippers that strip at night and go to school during the day. When its 100 degrees (F) in May and all the girls wear skimpy clothing, you realize its nice to live in a desert.
The greedy companies will just find other ways around to compensate w/o it showing up. CEOs, Presidents and Boards of Directors all enjoy a cozy "Boys Club" atmosphere and there isnt much that will change that attitude.
My computer at work hasnt needed to be "fixed" by our IT staff in over a year (if you dont count patching it every week and new softawre installs). I attribute 90% of computer downtime to people downloading and installing gator/comet cursor and crap like that.
It doesnt sound so bad really. Offer prizes to those who can build stuff to get achive certain objectives. The big downside is that I doubt one person (cept for 50 richest people) can bankroll development on things like ion drives and other future propulsion technology.
Remember, this was to only get three people to 100km. Yes its a lot, but a far far away from going to Mars or transporting 500 people to the moon colony for the day.
Rebuild times are what to factor in. If one drive fails and another one fails before you rebuild the array, its toast for Raid 1 and 5. Its not necessarily replacement time, but rebuild time as well. This can range from a few hours to two or three days if you have a gigantic HD (300+GB).
I've been looking to RAID5 a bunch of HDs, and 400GB makes it worth it. I saw a good RAID 5 card with 6 SATA ports, so 5 x 400GB = 2 TB. Mmmm 2TB. Finally be able to rip all my DVDs.
Yes, and Hitachi/IBM came out with that 400GB drive a while ago BUT I've yet to see it on sale anywhere.
21MB/s isnt all that fast. The new WD SATA drives are from 35MB/s to 60MB/s. No, a 5400 drive wont cut it, but any 7200 drive made in the past 2 years should be good. See here and look at "WB99 Disk/Read Transfer Rate - End in MB/Sec".
My copy of t-bird (0.6) its spam filter seems to suck more and more lately (perhaps its just the spammers are getting better at bypassing the filters). I just switched to server side spam filtering (just adding a tag to the subject), and then I key off that in t-bird.

And a piece of shit... ArcGIS 9 is such a pain in the ass, I've found and registered two bugs with ESRI in the month I've had it...

Because they were ahead of schedule the entire project up until January. They were going to open it in Jan 04, then March, June, now July 15.
Not exactly, one of the biggest bondholders for the monorail is the state of NV.

You forgot FROM tablenames

Ever since I found out the cute engineer girl is married i lost all interest in the show. Sigh..
"Anyway, Las Vegas won't be missing the biggest bunch of cheapskates to tie up tens of thousands of rooms every year."
My dad sells food to the casinos and when I told him he wasnt too happy, even 50,000 people eat a lot of food. At least Defcon is still around.

One nit I need to pick.

I'm in a building named for the guy. No its not inflatable, however, it IS the Physics building at my school.
I agree, start speed seems the biggest improvement to me. I'll definately be able to tell on my old 600mhz laptop.
Legal fees for defense: $5,000+
Settlement payout: $3,000.
Take your pick. That is why many people settled.

If they own the broadcast, can they put in a disclaimer that says I cant skip commercials/cut out commercials if I record it?

You can still use ctrl-break to stop execution when debugging software.
