  1. I want to be excited about Windows 10 but I can't. Please, please, please give me an official option to turn off telemetry like the Enterprise version has.

So if you just want to disable telemetry, in registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection create a 32-bit DWORD called AllowTelemetry and set it to 0. Restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

If you're correct, that's great news. Could you please the reason you think that's a reliable approach?

It's possible to acknowledge that an act led to good outcomes while still breaking the law in a way that can not be supported. Holder is taking that perspective.

That kind of reasoning should have led Holder to crack down hard on illegal immigration.

He didn't, so I suspect he doesn't reason that way.

Jesus Christ, we get it. Microsoft recommends people upgrade their operating system to the newest one. Big fucking deal, let it go. Reading Slashdot means like I'm continually kept updated on whenever Microsoft recommends people to upgrade. I don't need to be in on the loop about it.

You didn't read the article. It's not Microsoft "recommending people" upgrade to to Win10. What they've done is actively circumvent the people that explicitly chose to deny the Windows 7/8.1 update KB 3035583 that installs GWX ("Get Windows 10"), which is the malware that silently downloads Windows 10 and tries to install it without the user's permission.

I wonder if Microsoft's EULA is a bullet-proof defense against someone claiming that they're violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, via clearly unauthorized access.

Is that true? And if so, doesn't that make EULA's basically unenforceable in most cases because most people aren't lawyers?

How can you explain Microsoft's Win 10's strategy without referring to a shit sandwich?

It's not difficult, here's an example:

Imagine it's Valentine's day, and you go to the store to get your bonnie lass a box of chocolates. You have them gift-wrap it, and you go to the fancy restaurant where you have dinner reservations. The evening goes beautifully. You take her home, and she gives you a very exciting come-hither loop. You sweep her off her feet, and carry her to the bedroom. After some passionate kissing, you gently start to lift her blouse, and there's a shit sandwich.

Sorry, my mistake. It can't be done.

    (3) Fans of small government

    (4) People who think the Bill of Rights should be fully respected by all branches of the federal government

    (5) Libertarians

I think group (1) is the proper target of your satire, but you might be catching up some of the wrong people in your phrasing.

I think an overarching issue is that we don't really know what Trump (or most successful politicians) think.

I suspect that Trump is good at recognizing what people want to hear, and is willing to pander to some viewpoints/groups that Clinton and others are not. But I have very little sense of how Trump's campaign speeches would translate into Presidential actions.

While I think Clinton is probably just as disingenuous, it's probably a little easier to anticipate how she'd act as President, because she has a long political track record.
