For all of the "evolutionists" out there...
The world of science can't explain the power source for a "permanent" magnet as it hangs on a refrigerator door, YET you can explain the "origin of species". Hubris? (Weekends are good for a little "trolling";-)
I do not know if you saw my post (tried to respond to you earlier). Again, I don't know if you'll get this. I read above where you don't believe they are even a remote possibility. I used to believe that same exact way, but now I see that they do exist - check out my previous post - it talks about Ephesians 6:12 - you'll want to read that, if you haven't.
I don't know if you'll see this - this post is getting older. I agree with you on the "young earth", it was created by God as described in Genesis - and not zillions of years ago. Yes, there are other conservative Christians that post to Slashdot;-)
The word of warning I have for you though, is something that a lot of Christians miss these days. The focus of the original post was about UFO's and ETs. Until recently, I thought the UFO/ET stuff was just junk - in actuality IT IS 100% REAL!!! Now hold on, I know what you are thinking - this guy is a loon - I am not! I got my head on straight and listened to what my Bible had to say!!! If you do not believe that the UFO/ET stuff is real - then you need to reread Ephesians 6:12. Point blank - the ETs are demons! I used to think that there was nothing else out there in the universe. That nothing could travel at the speed of light, and that the nearest star was Alpha Centauri and it takes light something like 4 years to get from there to the earth and that it would take humans 25,000 years to get there with present technology, and we can't observe "anyone" out there, so we must be "alone". If I am to believe my Bible, than the "evil rulers of the heavenly realms" should probably be viewed as today's ExtraTerrestials aka ETs. DO NOT FORGET THAT POINT, that is: ETs=demons! I would like to write more to you on this subject - I will not unless you say so. I want to write more, because I think this topic (UFO/ETs) will be coming to the forefront of the "mainstream" media REAL soon! There is more information that you should know!
The US could build support by one at a time "knocking" recalcitrant countries off of the net (removing their domains). They will squirm for a while and then get back in line. Soon, all will be happy;-)
Seriously though - the US should keep the tdn's. The US may have its problems, but still can more adeptly administer these domains than some of the people who want control (or at least a say). I know if I needed brain surgery, I wouldn't be telling my neurologist how to do his job;-)
You fail to ask the more important question...why would Brazil be so stupid as to base much of its parliamentary procedure on something another country controls? This is like you saying that Brazil made a mistake, and the US needs to correct Brazil's mistake.
I wish that the article had more details. Try adding a few scsi cards or fiber channel hbas to a box and see how well any bootloader likes it - it probably won't - your device names will have changed. Uusually devlabel works, but some RH installs I've seen, still use/dev/xyz# for your swap partition (makes sense, because devlabel looks at information in your filesystem). When you add a "disk controller" card, this device name changes and you boot without a swap partition.
If you add one "i" or use the way they pronounce it, then you have the "revised" version of the beast "616"* not "666" - GRANTED, this should be written DCXVI, but if written with "just" numerals, it would be "VI I VI"
*recently revised "according" to "older documents", see "Number of the Beast" on wikipedia
Heck, did anyone look at those pics.? It looks like they have grease stains all over them. Was Einstein eating pizza when he was writing these pages;-)
The "Mark" may actually be YOUR personal identifier. I am NOT a Greek scholar, but I do know a little Greek. The Greek words may point to humans GIVING the BEAST their personal identification. The "mark" word in Greek is also used for like a "signet" ring that someone sealed an envelope with - to mark as their's and their's alone - their identification. This thing carrying your personal identification could be the mark described OR, it could be a DNA sample given by humans to the BEAST. Then again, I could be wrong and it could be an actual mark from the beast. Just an FYI.
Ummm, errrr, well - AMEN!!! You have stated it concisely. I ESPECIALLY like your statement about the "certainty" of ALL of us. Moderators will probably put me down -while your post should be raised as insightful.
Oh, all right - I'll cede to that danged newer technology - DIP switches;-) Seriously, you are right, switches would be easier, but either way I WANT THE CONTROL. I don't want some stupid plug and play BIOS to have the control. A few posts down, and the individual seems to have a fairly cool idea about addresses on the bus.
I know it may seem archaic to some, but I wish they'd bring back jumpers. Anyone who tries to make a server today, knows what I am talking about when the BIOS decides to "re-arrange" the order in which your cards are seen, e.g. You used to boot from an Intel RAID card, you add a Qlogic FC card, and now the box thinks that it should boot from the qlogic. In the old days, the jumpers ruled the show - you could set what order cards booted in. Maybe this new BIOS can allow me to set this order? That is one of my gripes about the BIOS today.
Sending identifiers to represent graphics has been around for a while. Isn't that how network games work - the images are not actually sent over the wire - an identifier is sent that represents the scenery image - NOT THE ACTUAL SCENERY IMAGE. How can Microsoft patent this use - there is tons of prior art.
Unfortunately, sys admins run across ant when they work with tomcat. If you don't want to pull down byte code off the web - you want to "build" tomcat to get the latest version - then you have to encounter ant. XML, in my book, just makes reading config files more complicated. Now, instead of looking at the actual "data", I have to sort through a bunch of noise - the tags.
I know the moderators will hit me for this, but from the sys admins point of view - ant is evil!
It is simply another build program to learn. The C and C++ stuff for the kernel is "make" - now I have to learn "ant" for Java programs. I am not against learning new things, but where some people see XML as a good thing - I think it sucks! I despise any time I see a config file that is XML. XML is for the "parsing impaired" - use a plain text file like everything in/etc !!!
I must admit that I love this sort of thing - a piece of knowledge that most people wouldn't know, being used as a "club" on some poor, unsuspecting schlep. Classic!!! If I had really been funny, I would have chimed in with something like - "Yeah, that was my thought exactly! Doesen't everyone know about the Babylonian number system and Unitary perfect numbers?" I only wish I had more info like that! Thanks for sharing!
I thought the same thing - or could you just use a high end PC power supply. Disconnect the power supply in the system and feed the wires from your "good" supply to the board? I am no hardware hacker, but there has to be a simpler way. Just my $0.02
Part of what gives google a feature that is well liked is its cache - I don't have to go to the site, I can just look at the cache. That cache took time to build up. The only way that MS could build up a cache of that duration would be to mine the WayBack machine on archive.org. Now if they could mix that with the clustering of vivisimo.com, then they would have a better product.
Are you clustering for performance? Are you clustering for high availability? Are you clustering for fault tolerance? There are differnent types of clusters for different applications. We can't tell you what is "best" for clustering without knowing what you are trying to accomplish.
How come nobody is looking at it the other way. The desire here is to focus on some imagined learyness of Linux. I would like to see a survey that came back and asked if Linux users were considering jumping ship to Windows. I think you would find a LOT higher percentage would say they are NOT considering Windows.
I saw "superfluid" in the title, and I was thinking like: Everclear!!!
