Addictions to illegal substances, alcohol, smoking, and other consumables have a direct effect on the physical welfare of an individual. Online addiction is only a substitution for that of an otherwise dull existance in the real world. This is social evolution. I foresee in 300 years we're all connected to some sort of MMO experience, whether it be a fictional world or series of nonstop chatrooms and advertisements. We're a social species and we've long proven that if there's a way to be more interconnected we'll do it.
What I want someone to prove is that all of you nonMMO'ers aren't addicted to avoiding new technology and entertainment.

likewise, after I spend 5 hours playing World of Warcraft and then I hop in my custom made plate armor, I seldom realize I am not in game. I roam the streets swinging my 7 foot long broadsword at innocent bystanders hoping to gain some Terr'ist faction points and hopefully a few epic drops every day or two. If I play the WoW intro song on my ipod while I'm hacking away, I even imagine the PCP I'm taking to be health pots...... I agree with this commenter: definitely the wrong genre of study.

You obviously haven't played in anything past the level 30 pvp bracket. On established servers, Paladins pave the way for many raiding guilds to get Tier 1 and Tier 2 loot. No matter how much we all wish PVP in wow was about talent, its usually only about gear...
Grind and WoW only apply to the grind of repeating end game content. You gotta put two and two together and realize that the reason World of Warcraft has such a significantly larger fanbase is the casual gamer; and for them, World of Warcraft is amazing. The 1-60 leveling experience is better in WoW than most other games out there.
If grind addiction really did exist, Galaxies would still be huge:P
Is anyone else beginning to lose track of all the handhelds you'll eventually end up buying when you can justify spending $100 on something you'll only use on airplanes?
Don't get me wrong, a PSP is on my to-buy list...
I think I'm the only one that thought this comment was perfectly sarcastic. I call bluff on anyone with full tier2 epics (or even tier1) that says they have a (healthy) life outside of WoW.

I just read in the paper today (I'm from Michigan) that our state is almost 600k in debt! 600k!!! And they want to cut UPPER education for LOWER education... why am i getting an anuerism thinking that some future drug dealer is going to be getting a laptop so that he can keep track of the trafficking of his drugs in sophomore english, while I have to drop out of the University of Michigan because tuition jumped another 30%?
