I think we're on the same page. Private & public sectors have their places, but both are corrupted. Anyone holding one above the other is kidding themselves.
Not to put too much tin foil on, but it's very hard to find many references to this person being connected to Piratbyran. He must have been a very behind the scenes kind of guy. Though could it be this person never existed or that they have faked their death to avoid legal issues. Just putting that out there in the lunatic fringe!
Yet we have oil spewing into our Gulf right now thanks to private sector & capitalistic brilliance. You can find anecdotes to support your party or economic model however much you like. The real problem is that incompetence & corruption are spread in all systems, so us humans just go around in circles picking out the flaws and holding up our own ideals as the solution.
Keep in mind though that most 360/PS3 "HD" games aren't really HD at all. Many are scaled up from some odd resolutions. Games can also be locked down lower to 30 fps or 60 fields per second. Also in many cases you'll get more fog effects, less anti-aliasing, etc. The graphics are "dumbed down" a lot to make them run smoothly.
Though I do understand the convenience aspect of it.
I am finding it kind of annoying/spooky that the same ad seems to follow me around to different websites via DoubleClick. Yes I was looking up information on stock photography, now stop showing me the exact same ad twenty billion times on 50 different websites. I am not going to click it.
While this & wake-on-LAN seem like novel ideas, I think it'd be better to focus on allowing smarter power management within the computer. For example, add-in 3D cards do not go to sleep when the monitor does, this consumes quite a bit of power. This is not as big of a problem in a business setting, but even onboard graphics are getting more advanced. CPUs can still improve as well. Better clock stepping, such as allowing the CPU to run @ 20% it's rated speed. CPU core power downs, where you shut off cores not in use & power-gating, so you're shutting off parts of active cores not in use. Once SSDs come in to use, they will also help as these can effectively be turned off when not in use as they have no spin-up time.
Ultimately, I think the goal should be better power scaling on-demand rather than completely shutting the computer off. Once the computer is off you have to get into funky schemes like this to get it back up and running. Even in sleep mode, the computer is still consuming 1W - 10W power. Imagine being able to let your computer just idle at 1W - 10W & then scale to 25W - 200W when you need to use it for work.
I am glad you figured out he had poor language skills from an single paragraph informally posted on the Internet. Guess what I got out of your post? That you're a dick.
Maybe employers should be up front with people about their responsibilities and pay. Doing a Bait & Switch with job responsibilities and then ignoring these actions is just a way for the company to leech the most out of you. Frankly I think it'd be important to remind your manager of your job title before you start doing stuff outside of your job description. Companies will take, take, take & give as little as they possibly can in return.
So why aid them by allowing US corporations to outsource a crap-load of labor over there? US corps seem to be of the ilk of "rape & pillage while the getting is good", so I don't see how we can take any sort of high ground.
Meh, one of my LCDs takes 1/3rd the power of my old 21" CRT. The card itself is large because of the ports, it will probably not use much more power than it's 2/3 output sibling.
"In our race to destroy the trappings of tradition and establishment in favor of something shiny and new, we've forgotten to build lasting replacements to those edifices we so gleefully destroy. Religion? Superstitious nonsense--screw "sense of community," it's a pointless side effect. Social clubs? The decadent excess of a dominant class looking for ways to ostracize others. Family? A convenient lie, used mostly to oppress women and marginalize homosexuals, easily entered into and easily dissolved by the courts."
Note none of these institutions are actually in danger of going extinct & no one is at the door clamoring for their destruction. Also note the tone is one of longing and the need to preserve the way these things function or have functioned in the past.
You gave some examples and reasons that reeked of hyperbole and sounded like they mirrored your own point of view. If you have better examples then please share them.
Last I checked churches, families & social clubs still exist & aren't going anywhere. To suggest that these should not evolve with society or that society can't find community without a church or a 'good ole boys club' is ludicrous.
Yeesh, what job on the market lets you build an electric race car and drive the Pan-American HWY? I bet they'd wish they took your offer and were in a stuffy lab or pushing numbers/code in a cubicle all summer rather than going on an adventure and trying to pick-up South American chicks...
Something like this would look great on a resume anyways.
I'd hate to sniff Internet Explorer 3, that thing must be getting pretty rotten by now...
I actually meant Luke Wilson, but now that I think about it, it probably doesn't matter which one. The Wilsons are the new Baldwins...
Perfect for sneaking back into your mom's upstairs basement after a late night of LARPing...
Maybe the space module was using AT&T to communicate. AT&T better blast Owen Wilson into orbit to try to save face.

Yep, private industry has never wasted a cent. Their track record is spot on.

I would say woosh but you probably won't be able to hear it over the vuvuzelas...
Umm, what ads? Futbol is played for 45mins straight, per half. There are only a handful of ads along with the sideline video banners.
...while I'm watching men play those same sports I'm do not get sexually aroused.
Hmm seems a little bit Freudian...

Won't people have to update or install this "sleep proxy"?
Meanwhile he pockets the other 3%.

...after all that has become the defacto currency on the Internet... right? right?
I thought it was Cadburium, with the delectable creme centers...
