I hope that that all slashdotters do realize that their hackneyed welcome our new overlords originated from The Simpsons.

Welcoming Our New Overlords
The sycophant type of troll is based on a quote from the newscaster character Kent Brockman of The Simpsons. In one episode of the show (episode number 96, Deep Space Homer), Brockman watches a video broadcast from a space capsule, within which a number of ants have accidentally been released. The ants appear huge because they float directly in front of the broadcast camera and close to the lens. He mistakenly assumes that alien insects are invading Earth and attempts to ingratiate himself to them by broadcasting propaganda: "I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords."
With ever increasing number of songs/albums a user want to maintain and access from everywhere through all possible devices, the future is _not_ in huge personal file collections.
The future is in having music "streamed" to you whereever you are, through whatever means is possible.
The backward compatibility with CDs is optional, but a good idea by the SACD guys nonetheless. It is achieved by having two layers on the disc. One layer is stereo PCM i.e. CD. And in addition a new multichannel DSD format SACD layer.
CD players will be blind to the SACD layer and will play the CD layer. SACD players can see both and will play the superior SACD layer on the disc.

Unlike DVD-Video, the industry seemed to have learnt the lesson that region coding doesn't work. DVD-Audio and SACD have no region coding of any sort.
