  1. Does the term 'art' include video games? on Are Videogames Art? · · Score: 1

I find the question blantantly stupid, but then again, it's a question that needs to be asked. The answer is an absolute yes, positive, uh-huh, 10-4 good buddy, whatever...

I'd say the base definition of art is a soul or group of souls creating an expression that, at least to them, seems interesting. Maybe we could even space the 'seems interesting' part...

A video game is probably the most creative venture that I can think of for a single soul, or group of souls, to be able to perform. Could you imagine one of the people these days considered a 'GREAT' artist of days of old being able to do something that wasn't just paint or scribbles on paper, but instead something that could move, and more importantly, REACT to the person experiencing that art? That would be something!

I don't think we've even seen such a thing. We were seeing something close back a decade or so ago with the C64 "demo scene" and their crazy stuff. But I've gotta say I've not seen anything that that in years. If the demo scene still exists, or something has since surpassed it, please point me that way. I always liked that kind of stuff.

Hell, I bought I 21" CRT from Overstock.com that specifically said it came with a DVI cable. Didn't come with one. I called Overstock and got a bunch of excuses, but no cable. Finally went out and bought one myself. Found that DVI only supports 60hz refresh. So here I am with a monitor that will do something outrageous like 130hz refresh with a VGA connection, stuck with a shitty blinking 60hz refresh. That was an annoying piece of education. (Yah, I now use the VGA connection on the 21", and the DVI cable hangs on the wall, unused, as the two 17" LCDs I also have on the machine do not support DVI, so fuck ya all)

  14. Sure, maybe, doubt it. on Apple and Windows Will Force Linux Underground · · Score: 1

Sounds like a plausible secenario, as long as you pretend that the whole world is the United States. However, with so many people/governments/schools in all the other countries taking to Linux, that's going to create a huge realm of competition and applications that are not accounted for in the article.

So I really doubt this is anything but some MacFan having dreams. (Or posturing to try to inflate Apple stock.) Apple's still dying (As a computer company anyway) in the long term. They may end up an entertainment company, but their machines are irrelevant for the long term. Unless Apple can figure out a way to undercut the price of a server that can run either Linux or Windows. Nobody gives a shit about 'pretty' in the server room.
