As one who's tried to setup a mail server under Ubuntu several times, there's alot of black magic and voodoo involved to get it to work right, including vacation messages.
We're still using antiquated software like sendmail and dovecot that requires a degree to understand the cryptic config files.
This is not for the faint of heart, and certainly not plausible for the average user. Until something more user friendly comes along, don't expect this to happen all that often.
Zimbra by VMWare seems to be making good headway in making it much simpler though.
I wonder how long hacks and other enthusiasts get tired of being monitored up the ass before an alternative Internet gets created. Piggy backed on the Internet, but offering true end to end encryption and complete anonymity. I'm not talking TOR with it's limited exit nodes, I'm talking where every person on the 'network' is an exit node. Visiting a website with say a page of 10 images results in a server log of 11 different IP addresses.
I love the summary.. some random dude (blogger) that writes stories on the Internet has an opinion and thinks mega-billion company is making a mistake.. and this is news on Slashdot nowadays.
Redeemed themselves? Hardly.. they did it because only diehard XBox fans would buy it. No, Microsoft showed their true colours, and just means they will try it again in smaller steps, most likely after people have bought it.
I'm guessing things have changed, or Rogers just sucks. With Shaw Cable, I get 100Mb/sec downstream and 5Mb/sec upstream with 500GB transfer a month. I regularly speedtest.net my connection, and I get what I'm paying for.
Funny, Harper has been pretending to be an American and pandering to the whims of the USA since elected 6 years ago. It doesn't seem to bother him in the least, infact I would go so far as to say he's actually proud of it.
Users are frustrated because it lacks a keyboard? You mean just like Surface? Oh, but you can buy one as an add-on you say? You mean just like Surface?
Wow.. I'm not sure who I'm more afraid of now.. Ballmer or Gates, both seem pretty out of touch with reality.
I'm using the $40/mon plan, it's speedy enough that I'm running it as a private mail server, minecraft server, mumble server.. and occasionally as a TF2 server.
I'm certainly glad when I was looking for a VPS, Linode was quite a bit more expensive than the one I was recommended. For the price they charge, I'd expect better security.
If ever there was a time to ditch Microsoft and go Open Source it is now.
Sure, soon as my PC games all work on an OSS alternative I'll switch without hesitation. Until then Windows will be the OS du jour.

Really, do we need an entire run with the TARDIS crashing into everything?

Hmm.. I'm not sure. Which one was 'do no evil' again?

How low Slashdot has fallen..
gMail flagged Ubisoft's email as spam and potentially bogus. I wonder how many people will think it's just another phishing attempt and ignore it now.
In reality, it will be more like depicted in CTRL-ALT-DEL.

He already did.. he has an iMac on his desk now and he couldn't be happier.
Knots landing.. pft.. you kids these days.
It's The Brady Bunch UI.
Now get off my lawn!
Windows 8.1 is a nice attempt to polish a turd, but it's going to take more than hanging an air freshener off this corpse to make it live once again.

We're no US citizens, we already knew we were under surveillance by the US gov't because we're a foreign country.
This is the first time smug US citizens find out what the rest of the world feels like.
Good on ya eh!
Same reason why some get disturbed seeing people with piercings all over their face and giant holes in their ears lobes I'd imagine.
Time to find a better ISP bro.. my ISP's crappiest service is 125GB/month @ 10Mbps. I'm on their 100Mbps plan that gives 500GB/mon.

Not sure what shitty Internet you have in your country, but in Canada my connection gives me 500GB a month.

Why would they need a warrant to access your email? They already have a copy of all your email, they just have to open their copy of it.
Also.. To those comparing it to snail mail, it's more akin to the amount of privacy when sending a postcard than a letter in an envelope.

Eh, I don't think tapping the ass is the issue with incest.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm using DigitalOcean.

With the current popularity of 50 Shades of Gray, they may garner some public interest if they renamed BSD to BDSM.
