I'm thinking of starting a PC recycling business because most trashed PCs these days are still acceptable performers. I'll take all these PCs, install Linux and then donate them to churches and schools. Brilliant!
Sorry, but Microsoft didn't have a clue long before the month of December. There were clues scattered on the ground around them, but they were unable to get/find one.

Right click Clippy (or other annoying icon), select Options tab, uncheck Use the Office Assistant. Works in Office XP and Office 2003. Clippy _never_ shows up for me. Its a good thing.
Price is but one part of the equation. As Steve said, its the immediate gratification as well as the availability. On the iTunes store (and via P2P...) I can dl music that is not available locally. I can download it _now_. I can consume _now_. And its all about me, right? Selling CD's (in the conventional fashion) for $8.00 will not significantly increase sales.
Idiots... IBM did not create Lotus Notes. You cannot infer IBM's UI or CUE experience from that client. You can however, look at other products from IBM and might infer that they are less than perfect, judge for yourself. However, IBM had darned little (nothing?) to do with the design of R5, and probably only marginally influenced R6. In the words of the commedian ",It was on fire when I lay down on it.".
I RTFA'd and also read the InfoSync article. Despite clues being all around me on the ground, i can't seem to determine how this device would connect to the internet. Is it via cellular, or do I have to have a wi-fi network lying around?
Let me hook one of these up at the house. IIRC, the power company has to pay me for any excess power that I feed back into the grid. So, the model goes...
1. Install Newfangled Reactor
2. ?????
3. Profit!
The only real question is what am I going to do with all the money I make?
ECL's are most certainly the solution. However, almost no one uses them, and they are quite difficult to manage. Do you want to click on "Allow" for each action that could be performed by LotusScript, for each document that is processed, for each database that is opened, or for each form that is used? The burden of doing so far outweighs the benefits achieved if only everyone agrees to play nice. In speaking with Lotus at a BOF during LotusSphere, they acknowledge the issue, but do not have a solution that doesn't trust the developers to play nice.
You can do this in the front end, for sure. Keep your coworkers from forwarding your e-mail jokes to your boss... lol.
However, the back end is a completely different story. Using LotusScript, you should be able to forward the document. Further, you could likely change the form used to view the document to a form which doesn't prevent forwarding. You might also be able to remove any fields that prevent forwarding via LotusScript. All of these techniques could be used to circumvent this style of protection.
Anyone that thinks that Lotus Notes is a secure mail platform is deluded. If you think differently, just let me know your e-mail address, and i'll send you a document with "form stored in document" and a little post-open code for your pleasure. Lotus Notes is extremely insecure to those who know it, particularly e-mail.
Would you like to book your next hotel room a little cheaper than you can by calling? Use the internet to book it, buy it at auction even, which can save you 60%-80%.
Maybe you want to know whether the marina has all of their boats rented for the next day? Luckily the marina just came online with their inventory system and it's now available on the web.
Just two fine examples of why you want the internet around even if you are vacationing. The internet is (also) a tool to be used to make your life easier. It is applicable in all walks of life, vacationing included.
Maybe inserting a particular phrase in the carbon chains for the Gasoline? Perhaps the new slogan for Shell would be HOCH, with their gasoline being "branded" by the addition of the CH2O chain somewhere in the gasoline. CAVEAT: IANAOC! Probably cost prohibitive and possibly dangerous or impossible. An interesting idea nonetheless.
Eventually Lexmark will realize that it is wasting its time and put the effort into making higher quality products that people are willing to pay a little extra for.
In the meantime, the consumers get an ass-poking, the CEO of Lexmark gets a fat check for probing our nether regions, and even Static Control gets bucks out of the deal. Let's keep the dollars in the consumers's pockets and force companies who have no moral guidance (an oxymoron, I know) to act in the interest of society. Let's not wait on companies to figure out that it's in their best interest and profits to please the consumer. It takes too long, and the consumers will get screwed in the process.

Now I have an excuse for wearing my pants dropped around below my butt... because I'm wearing solar powered boxers! (and I'm _loving_ it!)
An interesting look at Deuteronomy and early jewish legalisms but no comedy.
Sounds more like Dracula, with all that feeding. Oh wait, with Dracula the patches are applied after the feeding. lol.

So, it _was_ the computer's fault all along!

How I wish I could moderate to more than +5. Excellent response!
Really. I'm in Hickory (OK, Newton actually). You?
Just curious as to where you live. Eastern or Western North Carolina? They are both pretty much out there.
Legally protected and all that...

Indeed they do. In Christianity, the price is free, but TCO can run quite high... ;)
Is this legal in the United States? It sounds similar to price fixing to me.
No pants? Nah. I find wearing a dress at works really freaks my cow-orkers out.
The names are the same but the gender has been changed to protect the innocent.
