That is where you are wrong. You are forgetting all the popup ads that come with netscape. You don't get those with mozilla. I now finish my web surfing and have to do work instead of spending my day closing all those windows.

  5. Re:Finally opposed on EFF Supporting Home DVD Editing · · Score: 3, Insightful
I finally find myself opposed to something the EFF is doing and siding with the studios. It boils down to this, the editors are making software for the purpose of censoring, hiding, removing - whatever you want to call it, content. Since I stand firmly against censorship with very few exceptions, I find myself opposing this action by the EFF.

The big difference is that this is being done by the end user. If I am a parent who wants to block language from my kids but want them to watch an otherwise funny movie like shrek I should be able to do that. (not saying that I would but ..) This is differnt than blockbuster only supplying editted dvd's

  9. What about out of state driving??? on More on Oregon and GPS-tracked Gas Taxes · · Score: 2, Insightful

The problem with an odometer soln is what if I live on the border and drive a lot in say, California. I shouldn't be taxed for that?? Also for the GPS based soln, that is going to be quite costly.

  10. Re:Question on Real Launches Music Download Service · · Score: 1
The "on-demand" tunes are free, and you just pay for burning right?

That is the way that I read it. It sounds like a good idea sans the windows only "feature" I would like access to a large audio library and then burn the tracks I like on a CD for a price. Subscribe for a while and (assuming you don't need a subscrition) cancel with your CD's in tact.

Now, if they tie the burned data to a maintance fee, well, that is just plain silly...

  11. Re:Another crippled product on ReplayTV May Drop "Commercial Advance" · · Score: 2, Interesting

I have both soln's a Tivo and a linux box running Freevo. They are really different and have their own lackings. I mainly watch movies and listen to audio on freevo and use Tivo are archived TV. It brings more to the table with its season pass manager stuff and it suggestions and whatnot. Plus, it ia a cleaner solution. However, I think when my Tivo 1 dies I am hoping that Freevo and projects like it (xbox PVR for example) will be ready for primetime and have better predictive recording.
