  1. Re:What a wonderful device for farmers! on The Quintessential Sentry Gun · · Score: 3, Interesting

We can't use fertilizer pellets because of how delicate these "toys" are built. The bb is fired with an compress air suction system based on a motor turning gears; which in turn run a piston back, and releasing that piston on a spring to the nozzle to fire.

Anything that's not soild and hard will get deformed or sucked into the cylinder and mess up your gun. And don't start the "hey but there are paintball airsoft gun" thing. They break faster.

There are biodegradable bb as siblings suggests. But on the contrary most are NOT biodegradable. The package says "bio-friendly" which is mis-leading. For some examples of biodegradable bb's check this: http://www.airsoftmechanics.com/reviews.php?aid=15 &page=3

But the problem with bio-bb's are that they are not offered in the same weight-range as the non-bio-bb. Depends how you tune your gun, the wind condition, and the slopes, .25g vs .20g really makes a difference in battles. Another problem is the consistency of the bb's diameter. Bad tolerance = jammed gun. And the hardness of the pellets. Soft pellets or brittle pellets = jammed guns again.

These so called "toys" (I quoted toys cuz they're not really toys hehe) are expensive if you dig deep, and you wouldn't want a frag bb in your piston and gears.

Unfortunately there are too many fools who don't think the same way as we do. They realy think they're just toys eventhough they've seen the damage it can do to a coke can. And whenever we tried to give some sense into the safety issue, they'll put us off and say yeah whatever.

I would not play with anyone like that, at least not to my private games.

It's not so much on the pretty cross-hair, or how good a shot you are with real guns. The problem has more to do with how good your strong eye line up with the sight and finally to the target. And how well can you calibrate the nintendo controllers to it.

I am pwn anytime in BF2 for example, but when you're holding a pistol, or a rifle, .2mm off the front sight would shoot way off at 20 feet.

It doesn't apply to me for sure. I grew up without a computer and only my uncle in my whole family has a computer back then. Since he uses it during the day, he let me use it during the nite when he's asleep. But the computer is also situated in his bedroom.

So when I used it I had to be real quiet. And generally, this extends to my steps on creaky wooden houses in canada, the way I close doors, and the way I pour water in a glass. And I still do them since it's a childhood thing.

These peeps will also have a hard time activating my mic and logging me because if my mic is ever one at the stand, it'll give a nice woo woo feedback and I would hear it :) That is if you managed to un mute the mic from the buggy liveware hehe.

It's always good to hear these things in the news. I've always wondered:

What if some chinese magic happen tomorrow and everyone lost the ability to make, print, use, think, smell.. CASH.

What if we lose our concept of money tomorrow? Will the world run as usual?

When you park your car in the gas and fill her up, until it's full, you don't pay cash and nobody demands a price. Will you happily drive off to loblaws and get your grocery for free? Or will you take your red gallon bottle out and fill that with gas you don't need? And then get 12 lettuce you don't eat?

    Of course most people will.

Will the entire USA population all of a sudden move to beverly hills, soho, seattle, hawaii, and desert the other "less rich" places? Just because we think it's cool to live in hawaii?

People who're dealing in cash jobs will lose their job. But will they have bread to eat and water to drink? Can they feed their babies and will Ferrari make cars for us? Will GM go out of business because everyone can have a Bentley for free?

Will JohnC, Sid Meier, and Billy Wright keep making games even if the games doesn't "sell"? I bet they will.

And that made me think whenever I hear news like these. I know it's all trekkie BS, but until the day we arrive, or at least "build" a new world where it isn't governed by the concept of cash, that we can do something really powerful and huge. And not even 4Frontiers are up to it, yet.
