    To gather statistics the Mozilla FOundation should include a small program with Firefox.

    This would monitor what browser you are using on your system, and would not collect any personal information to be sent back to the foundation. :p

    This software could be required to make the browser work, just liek the stuff that is required for software you have paid for.

    Don't forget some silly EULA to go with it too.

    Right, first off, I don't work in the security sector.

    Now my main point is it takes two to tango.
    If the data had never been such an easy target, maybe the people wouldn't have seen it as such a good opertunity and we wouldn't have this problem.

    Of course I'd rather see no hackers and spammers, but that takes time, and until such a time as they can be dealt, we do have to live with the problems.

    Feel free to be the first to turn off you're firewall, run unpatched windows boxen and not use AV tools on said boxen.

    I find it ammusing, if MS leaves a hole all of slashdot blame MS. In this case it's the same, people with essential data are leaving a hole.

    When you handle sensitive data you have a responsibility, just like banks etc, to keep that data safe in all circumstnaces.

    How dare a large american mega-corperation that wants to keep our private data on their systems and make money off selling it have to spend any money protecting it.

    Yes hackers are a pain in the arse, so are spam merchants. Thats life, live with it.

    In other news the inventor of the Yale lock blames thieves for the invention of the lock, which irritates us daily.

    If you can stretch to a 10k drive i found they actually spin up past the range of human hearing, which is a nice side effect as they are also very fast.

    The access noise is a bit worse I have to admit, but no spin noise.

    We already have 3 dimensions in a disk, rotation and position on a platter being 2 and the multiple platters being the third.

    From what I can make out, these drive will be the same as normal disks, but the data will be aligned like so:

    N
    | as opposed to N=S
    S

    All this means is that a single bit of data will take up approximately a third of the platter real estate and so you can probably squeeze about three times as much data on it.

    Anyway looks like the 80's are back, people are using 3D as a cool word again.

    I wonder when we will start to use "Digital" to make out things are great again? Oh yeah thats right RIAA et all are already doing it with their DIGITAL (DRM) music is teh Rox

    The corperations like the RIAA and MPAA stop saying that sharing a file is like stealing a CD from the shop?

    It's not! The CD can't now sell the CD that was stolen, but the mp3 or whatever being copied hasn't removed anything.

    When they realise that their distribution model is dying (netcraft confimed :p) they will get somewhere.
    They need to stop trying to prop it up with stupid restrictions that only serve to annoy people and do nothing to stop the pirates.
    The sooner they start rteating people like customers rather than thieves the better.

    The industry must remember that a customer is not a guaranteed revenue stream and many are getting annoyed and just not buying the rubbish that is churned out today.

    Well looks like i just found the idea time to set my startup company running.

    From my experience the main problem is with Home users who don't give a toss, and with SME's who can't afford a full time IT guy so only call people in when they notice somethign is wrong.

    That leave a lot of room for error.

    Surely by publishing the data they have to publish how they came to the conclusion that the data leads to and why that data should be trusted as accurate.

    If they have published, then nobody else can patent the idea, and i would hope that somewhere in the paper would be an explanation of the methods used to calculate the data.

    Otherwise it would be like saying AMD/Intel is crap because I say so, here is a link to some data that compares a 486 to a n modern CPU.

    (Actually as an aside that does kinda sound like th press release for the Turion Mobile thing or what ever it's called :S)

    Bearing in mind that any person who can't get channel 5 for some reson in the UK is fully aware they are not missing anything I think it sums it up.

    5th Gear is a show where the Top Gear Rejects go and race some cars in a way that proves nothing except the fact that the presenters obviously have very small items which must be compensated for.

    In the UK they do look at the back of the card, but they let almost anything pass, including some signatures that look nothing like the one on the card.

    Cashiers don't care as they are paid crap money to doa tedious job and it's unlikely they will be sacked over a fraudulant card transaction unless it's a big one.

    I could sign my card Micky Mouse and it would still be accepted.

    My other half changed her signature so it was in hini rather than english character set, and they still accepted it when she did the english one without any questions.

    They are pointless.

    Anyway customers get arsey when you question them about the signature anyway so you lose either way.
