We really need to get it together and distribute these ISOs on BitTorrent. I checked and no one had one available. I am downloading it now over a 56k link:( and will put up one myself if I have to. When will these distros learn from Slackware (The Great!)?:)
I don't know about you but every Arcade I have ever been in has been so noisy that I can't even hear myself talk, let alone some weak surround sound experience.:(
Well, it gets better and better. It looks like Eric Deming canceled his original reply (MessageID: c91e821d.0311051525.70aa9920@posting.google.com).
Wow, that was not the smartest thing to do. I mean, when you have a bunch of techies chasing you don't try and throw them off the sent with Usenet trickery. Use their weakness against them and throw pictures of naked women at them.:)
I just got DirectTV installed on Monday. Wouldn't you know that one of the largest solar flares in history would screw up my reception.
My personal purchasing history:
* Bought a VW Corrado (hence the nichname) - 6 months later they stopped making them.
* I am a "recovering" Amiga fanatic
* Bought a copy of BeOS - 'nuff said
*WARNING* *WARNING* *WARNING* *WARNING* *WARNING* I am thinking of purchasing a couch in the next few days. Who knows what will happen to the furniture business. Oh the carnage! *WARNING* *WARNING* *WARNING* *WARNING* *WARNING*
Damn, we have ethernet for the C-64, Atari and even lightbulbs, but I still cant get my old A500 or A2000 on the 'net. Oh sure, I could dig up a really old, crappy Ariadne II board off of eBay for $500, but what's the point in that? I want something like this for the Amiga.
Come on, it's got enought power to do something like this and you wouldn't have to build the GUI or OS - just the hardware.
Yes, you can just connect to any one of many Jabber servers and it just works. You have to find a Jabber server that has the MSN connection up and working (I don't know if Jabber.org or Jabber.com has it though). Search on Google for open Jabber servers or click here and you can see what protocols they are supporting.
Screw the CPU boxes, they don't have any|much local storage, just a bunch of I/O lines and Engines. The data lives in attached storage (DASD) hardware. Did they take that? Was one box the CPU and the other the DASD?
And why the hell didn't all kinds of monitoring tools go balistic?!? I can't even reboot my own server at work without some support person calling me - "Hey, we noticed that your server rebooted. Do you want us to take a look at it?".:/
I think this would be great to replace all the Gateway's in my sons school. I have been looking into setting up a K12LTSP network, but really havent found a supply of good, cheap "dumb" terminals. This looks like a match made in heaven.
Now, all I have to do is figure out how to get the LTSP stuff to run on this terminal instead of the server.:)
I think it would be valuable to give away "stuff". I would love to be able to purchase 10 songs from my favorite band(s) and get a limited edition T-Shirt for free. Or a bumber sticker, poster, something. This would keep me loyal to the site (I have to have so many purchases in order to get my "stuff" points) and keep the P2P poachers at bay.
Well, at least if gives them an incentive to purchase instead of steal (even if I "share" the files I won't be sharing my T-Shirt).
Ok, will the next version of Communicator be based on Mozilla 1.4? When will it come out? Will Netscape give up on Mozilla after this happens? I need answers damnit!:)
Yea, if you mail the disk to a recycler Missouri. Using your own envelopes, stamps, time, effort. Yea, that will happen quite a bit around here.
However, if I can toss the disk in my city recycling bin that might not be too bad...

Hey, your Playstation 3 is in my TiVo!
Get your TiVo outa my Playstation 3!
Seriously though, I think it would be really great to combine my (future) PS3 and TiVo. After all it already functions as my CD & DVD player why not add live TV functionality. Throw in a DVD-R drive and a FireWire port and I'm in heaven!!!
Welp, BMW already has a car that does most of this - and more! The 7 series includes the iDrive and a several computer networks connecting everything from headlights to seat adjustments. And they are all coded to that specific car - so if you remove the radio it work work in ANY other car, even a BMW 7 series! Wow!
I dont think SharePoint (or whatever they are calling it this week) uses WebDAV. We are using it at work and it wont work with anything except IE and MSOffice. No real suprise there I guess.
[sigh]
It's soooo close to being cool. Working with other OSS WebDAV stuff would be great! I guess they can't risk the market share though...:(
Hell, just build it into the table. Remember the MCP in Tron? Same thing - only without the "taking over the world" slant. Actually, it might have that slant too...
Ahh... Great Idea! My 120 just recently died on me after a 3' trip to a concrete floor and I really don't want to throw it away. Either that, or sell it on eBay for parts. Anyone want a broken, but other wise well cared for Newton 120 w/leather case, Newton modem, etc.??:)
The only thing that gets me through my day now is knowing that my T-Mobile SideKick (aka Danger HipTop) is on it's way. I can't wait!
With the MH project Sun is looking to replace MS on the desktop! WTF!! They are putting themselves directly in the line of fire with Big Bill! Are they nuts?!?
Hmmm...OTOH, maybe they could do what MS has done with the server/desktop line - only with more reliablity and less cost. Imagine a server that can be scaled to nearly infinite (128 CPUs anyone?) levels and never goes down! Then put a Linux desktop in front of it running lots of GPL stuff (to keep the costs down) and built-in Java.
And, as another poster put it, Sun has been giving back to the community for a very long time (i.e. NFS). Maybe this could work. I would love to not have to worry about my servers all the time ("Did it reboot overnight!?!") and get on with creating business solutions for my employer.
This seems like a much more reasonable alternative to litigation. It's funny and it gets the point across. Another possible "solution" would be to mung up the browser id tag whenever you go to MSN (but they would probably work around that pretty quickly).
AOL is almost a complete Operating System. I keep waiting for AOL to release a bootable CD-Rom that completely bypasses Windows. Just about the only thing they were missing was a browser - now they have that too.
I am actually looking forward to plopping a CD in my Mom's computer and not have to worry about viri, configuration, setup, etc... She just turns on the power and *blam* instant usable system.
It was designed & built by Wouter van Oortmerssen in the early 90's. See more info here.
The version I was familiar with was known as Amiga E. Here is the blurb from the Amiga E home page:
"For those who don't know: E is an object-oriented/procedural/unpure functional/whatever language with quite a popular implementation on the amiga. It's mainly influenced by languages such as C++, Ada, Lisp etc., and features extremely fast compilation, inline assembler, large set of integrated functions, powerful module concept, flexible type-system, quoted expressions, immediate and typed lists, parametric and object polymorphism, exception handling, inheritance, data-hiding, methods, multiple return values, default arguments, register allocation, fast memory management, unification, LISP-Cells, macro-preprocessing, a very powerful source-level debugger, gui-toolkit, library linker, and then some. (oh yes: and it was designed and implemented by me:-)"
Hey guys,
:( and will put up one myself if I have to. When will these distros learn from Slackware (The Great!)? :)

One that I can think of right off the top of my head would be the band Living Color. They rock(ed)! And what about Jimi Hendrix!?

BTW: I have used TVJab in the past and liked it.
Hey, does anyone remember the program that would thrash the heads in the 1541 to play "Bicycle Built For Two"? That was some freaky stuff! :)
This is pretty funny!
Gollum Da Man!

Amen to that!!!

Yes, you can boot any Firewire Mac with an iPod (Firewire MP3 player). It comes in really handy if you need to troubleshoot some weird boot problems.
:)
Plus, it's just neat to boot a computer off of your MP3 player.
The version I was familiar with was known as Amiga E. Here is the blurb from the Amiga E home page:
Nah, you just have to purchase some key-signing software from - - - - Microsoft. Wow, they get you coming and going agian! :)
