  1. Where is the BitTorrent??? on Yet Another Debian-based Distro: Mepis · · Score: 3, Insightful

    Hey guys,

We really need to get it together and distribute these ISOs on BitTorrent. I checked and no one had one available. I am downloading it now over a 56k link :( and will put up one myself if I have to. When will these distros learn from Slackware (The Great!)? :)

Wow, that was not the smartest thing to do. I mean, when you have a bunch of techies chasing you don't try and throw them off the sent with Usenet trickery. Use their weakness against them and throw pictures of naked women at them. :)

Come on, it's got enought power to do something like this and you wouldn't have to build the GUI or OS - just the hardware.

Yes, you can just connect to any one of many Jabber servers and it just works. You have to find a Jabber server that has the MSN connection up and working (I don't know if Jabber.org or Jabber.com has it though). Search on Google for open Jabber servers or click here and you can see what protocols they are supporting.

BTW: I have used TVJab in the past and liked it.

With the MH project Sun is looking to replace MS on the desktop! WTF!! They are putting themselves directly in the line of fire with Big Bill! Are they nuts?!?

Hmmm...OTOH, maybe they could do what MS has done with the server/desktop line - only with more reliablity and less cost. Imagine a server that can be scaled to nearly infinite (128 CPUs anyone?) levels and never goes down! Then put a Linux desktop in front of it running lots of GPL stuff (to keep the costs down) and built-in Java.

And, as another poster put it, Sun has been giving back to the community for a very long time (i.e. NFS). Maybe this could work. I would love to not have to worry about my servers all the time ("Did it reboot overnight!?!") and get on with creating business solutions for my employer.
