So you saw a well-lit picture and assumed it had a feature that was never mentioned anywhere else? You didn't check the manufacture's specs? You didn't do any research beyond looking at a well-lit picture? I'm sorry and not trying to troll here, but you bought a product that you really didn't know a helluva lot about.
I guess the truth scares religous folk, and hence they always see science as some sort of competitor.
The same could be said about a lot of "scientific folk" that see religion as a competitor. Most religious people I know (including myself) aren't anti-science in any way. It's easy to stereotype any group of people, whether they're religious, into science, white, black, Republican, Democrat, etc. but the simple fact is that stereotypes can't cover every member of a group.
I'm Catholic, I believe in the Bible but I don't think it's 100% fact, there are a lot of stories that are just symbolic, but the basic idea is true. I also believe in evolution (I won't go into exactly what I think about it, it would be a waste of typing and I'm not exactly going to convince anyone of anything they don't already believe).
It's just as easy for religious people to think about those "heathen scientists" as it is for scientists to think about those "religious kooks." The important thing is that most people aren't morons that refuse to think more than one way, though typically the most vocal are.
Anyone notice that SpyMac is already offering a free 1GB E-mail account? No keyword based ads (not that I have a problem with Google's use of them). It even gives pop3 access, which last I read, gmail won't (at first).
Trillian doesn't charge for the connection to the networks, the free version does this. They charge for the extra features that go along with the Pro version (plugins, Metacontacts, tech support, etc.). Ironically, the only connection it could be said they charge for is Jabber (which is a plugin that only Pro users can use).
I know all sorts of stuff has been done to PS2 and X-box, but what about GameCube? Anything interesting that we can do to it now that it's "under" $100?
where is the economic incentive to provide an IM service that everybody in the world can use? Servers do cost money... any ideas on how one could fund this?
Where is the economic incentive to write software that people don't have to pay for?
Trillian has gone 1.0 and in fact now 2.0. 2.0 even supports Jabber. It's the free version of Trillian that hasn't gone 1.0 but I think there's a new naming/versioning scheme on the way that will change how that is handled.
Trillian can run from portable media (even a CD if you're not interested in changing settings). Gotta modify some ini's to make the paths relative, but it works pretty well.
Somebody even set up a website with step-by-step instructions
Obligatory Simpsons quote (err, 'paraphrased,' just in case I screw it up): "This guy's cool" "Are you being sarcastic, dude?" "I don't even know anymore"
SCO Group has claimed that IBM and other companies owe it billions in damages for allegedly lifting some of its proprietary Unix intellectual property and incorporating it into Linux.
No wonder it's infested virtually every/. posting.
for parents to pass the buck to a machine. First they want an electronic device or two to raise their kids, then they want this thing to limit their access to the electronic devices.
Oh well, at least the average kid will probably be able to figure out that they can unplug their TV or whatever from this and plug it directly into the wall.

So we can agree that the word "Vista" is the only reason this story is here, right?
And if they actually use Jabber, there already is a plugin to connect.
I don't even know why I'm bothering to post this. Nobody visits slashdot anymore, it's too crowded.
I would assume they're counting AIM and ICQ as two.
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous
Fire is too common of a word. Needs to be something like FireFox. I'm sure the Mozilla won't mind changing the name of their browser again.

Russian space travelers - Cosmonauts
American space travelers - Astronauts.
That's the difference.
In space, no one can hear you scream...but, apparently, they can hear you drum.
Who cares about fish that don't glow in the dark? Regular fish are so boring now. At least give it an extra eye or a few asses.
Jabber is in the Pro version of Trillian and the devs have said that it will find its way into the free version eventually.

Assuming you have a woodstove handy.
Typing more to waste time so it lets me post...

From the Trillian forum's FAQ
That shows how to only accept IM's from users on your contact list.
