This is the exact problem I've had with every mainstream candidate to date. They might agree with me on Tech/Science issues but then disagree immensely on every other issue. If not that, then it's the other way around.
They've already imposed a internet radio tax. If there's something out there that can get around it, that would be a lot easier to shut down than something that is technically not illegal but they don't want around ie. Wikileaks
One thing I didn't understand in my school (NY, USA) was that they had changed th requirements to graduate. We had to take four years of Social Studies and English and two years of Math and Science in High School.
So, English for four years; wtf do you learn in an extra year or two that you shouldn't already know by now? I know, most people lern 2 type leik this LOL!@!@112 But seriously, this is a noun, this is 1984, we own your soul.
Now Social Studies. I love history. Never had a problem with it aside from remembering specific dates and people. I always felt that taking a message away from past events was the whole reason for studying them. Even so, it was useful and very thought provoking at times.
On to the sciences. In my school, 9th grade was Earth Science. (HS in NY is 9-12 for those in other locales) 10th grade was Biology. Both great classes, very interesting, great teachers. 11th grade was Chemistry and 12th grade was Physics. Now, 11th and 12th were not mandatory. However, to me, they were the most interesting. If they are going to mandate four years of English reading books I have no intention of actually reading, why not mandate four years of science?
Lastly, the maths. 9th was algebra. 10th was geometry, 11th was trig and 12th was pre-calc. (I ended up skipping 9th and moving ahead a year rounding HS out with calc in 12th) Now, I understand not requiring pre-calc and calc. Most people who don't go into technical fields will never use it. However, no trig? Trig isn't even that hard. And it has uses galore in real life. I'm sorry, but requiring me to read catcher in the rye, Of Mice and Men, and Lord of the Flies (please god, no more Jesus references) and not requiring me to take basic maths and sciences is just wrong.
Oh, one last note. We weren't allowed to take a light load our senior year and have half days. If we were done with our core classes, we had to fill up with electives. However, this got me into Computer Science and AutoCAD so I wasn't complaining. Even so, if they won't let you not take an elective you might not like anyway, why not require something that might actually be interesting and/or useful?
The whole part about requiring four years of english and history and then only two of maths and science is absurd. If you are going to skew it, let the kids decide which way they'd like it skewed. Tell them 12 courses between the four subjects. Be it 4,4,4,0 or 3,3,3,3 or 4,4,2,2 or 2,2,4,4 etc. At least then, if they expect to be a lib. arts major candidate, they can get their englishes out of the way. If technophile-land awaits, maths and sciences. And ffs, teach these kids how to use full and gramatically correct sentences. lolfu2
I always wondered why they did that. When I was going through high school (not so much before as I always found all of it relatively easy. adv. classes in HS fixed that usually...) they would teach you using the relatively benign problems and then try to screw you over on the tests.
They would test you on your understanding of a topic by making you find a trick to solve it. For example, with Trig identities, they would make a question so convoluted that you would have to convert between 5-6 different identities in order to solve the problem. So, unless you get lucky, you sit there fumbling around trying to figure out how it fell into place.
If you want to know if I understand a concept, just test me on it. Don't play some kind of mind game with me... especially if it's timed and my grade depends on it. I'd rather see the homework be tricky than the graded tests. At least then I have more time to ponder.
Anyone ever see the Battle Athletes anime? They had a zero-g version of lacrosse that they played in a large enclosed room so they could push off the walls, floor and ceiling.
That would be fun.
yes, but my point was that the idea of either working in a multithreaded environment was fundamentially flawed is blatantly wrong. The problem lies with the foundation not being written for the hardware they are trying to utilize.
The FA states that multi-threaded gaming is fundamentally flawed. How is this a valid statement? They are testing a multi-cored GPU using games that were most likely only developed to use, at MOST, two cores. Regardless of how many core you throw at it, the application (ie. your game) will NEVER use any of those cores.
In fact, gaming and graphics scale amazingly well as a multi-threaded application. In fact, as many in the graphics/gaming community have been stating recently, ray tracing would benefit greatly from more GPUs. Being able to trace multiple rays at a time would speed up rendering.
They state that it is fundamentally flawed when they should have said that it would be ignorant to assume that an application designed to use a single-core or dual-core GPU would benefit from extra GPUs.
You do know that Backwards Compatibility isn't a codec, right? It's physical hardware that they removed from the PS3 to make it cheaper to build. The DivX codec is software which adds zero cost to the building of the PS3. Most people have been saying they don't want BC for higher cost so Sony removed it. They dropped $100 off the price. If you really need BC, go buy a PS2 for $100.
And next time, try not to sound stupid and ignorant when bashing Sony.
I use a hostname that auto-updates itself so that's not a problem. And until recently, I didn't have any problems with ports blocked. Or is that from FiOS? I haven't looked into it yet. If I have to, I'll get DSL.
I have also been having trouble with my HTTP and FTP servers on my machine. Last week it worked fine and now I get connection refused errors to my HTTP and FTP servers. Though, my BitTorrent still works fine. Haven't had any trouble with Google.
It's great how consistent they are. Oh, I'm in CT. Though, dropping Comcast this week. Gonna grab FiOS. That 20/20 plan looked nice and I can live without television. Comcast isn't worth the cost.
The PA guys even said they called the E for All president and she said she would get back to them but never did. I mean, I could care less if they crash and burn, but you'd think after this lackluster start they'd rethink their plans if they do indeed want to succeed.
I'm on an internship for school in CT and the only thing around here is Comcast. I was used to Time Warner from where I used to live in NY. If I weren't moving back in a few weeks I'd drop Comcast for more than just this. Their Digital Cable interface is so horrible. It's slow, it's filled with ads, and barely user friendly.
However, DSL isn't exactly worth getting rid of comcast. I'd rather use gimped Comcast service (as there is a way around it if you encrypt your traffic) than DSL. If there were another Cable provider in my area I'd definitely switch.
Honestly, there is the "Black Box" on Steam. Though, I don't care. Steam is horrible. Not being able to play a game because I don't have internet that is Single Player is evil. Also, what if they go out of business? (I hope not, but it happens) Will they send us all a CD/DVD version of every game I bought from them? What if my machine then crashes and I don't have the content anymore? I would much rather buy a CD/DVD version of a game than download it. I don't know if I'm going to get EP2 when it comes out now. I'll probably wait for it to drop down to $20-30 and get the Orange Box then.
Valve has really lost a lot of my respect because of that Black Box move. Steam isn't helping.
so.... your thumb gets fatigued because the left stick is on the bottom? Well, how about the right stick? You do know that your left hand is the mirror image of your right... it should be equal if indeed it happens. I think you're full of shit. Either that, or you have tiny hands... Either way, the right one should still give you trouble just as must as the left one does.
I can't stand that the Xbox controller has them misaligned. It makes me have to hold the controller at an angle to work with them both.
I don't see how that is even feasible. I don't play WoW because it's a horrible game. However, I have tried it. Now, there's what, 8 million subscribers? Let's say 1/4 of them were logged in at once.
First, can a server even handle 2 million simultaneous logins? I bet they could do something, but it would cost a LOT more than splitting them up into managable chunks.
Second, the game world would have to be enormous in order to give people enough room to move around and do their own thing. Just imagine hunting a single boss, 300 people at the same time trying to kill one monster... it'd make me quit.
Now, the game dynamic would have to be changed and yes, that is possible. But at this point in time, I don't think it's physically feasible to run a virtual world the size something like this would have to be in order to fit everyone in at the same time. Zones lag enough as it is. And updating every user's stats? Unless we all have 1000mbit internet connections, I don't think we even have enough bandwidth. And the travel time in-game for that kind of world? You better give everyone instant teleport to any destination or nobody's going to want to move around...
First off, IRC doesn't have "sharing sites." Second, don't be so confrontational when a legitimate question is asked.
As for the little thoguht-provoking content, saying that you have the responsibility and there being a law are two different things. If you can cite a source, that would be great. However, the same thing could be said about your responsibility to the person you gave it to. There is no way you can make sure they don't infringe copyrights. Ultimately, wouldn't it be your fault? At some point it gets to be overkill. Should we even be going after those distributing? I think not. Going after the people who download without a legal copy seem more of a likely target as they are the only ones you can ultimately prove have ill intent. In my opinion, anyway.
I'm not sure as IANAL, but if you owned a physical copy of a CD/Record/8-Track/phonograph of a song, you are legally able to make a copy of it, correct? So, would sending someone else a copy of a song you ripped from your recording be legal if they also owned a copy? ie. I own a CD, a friend owns the same CD. He doesn't have a CD-ROM on his computer so I rip it for him and send it to him so he has it on his MP3 player.
I see this more as a "can I legally 'help' people backup their music" and "is it my fault that others can't follow the law."
From how I see it, it isn't their fault someone else downloaded the song; they didn't force anyone to do anything illegal. If they own the recording, shouldn't they be able to let others download it to have a personal, digital, copy? If not, why?
Honestly, it was much better for crafters before they started cracking down on gilsellers. The RMT concentrated on camping HNMs and didn't do much with crafting (minus fishing). At least I didn't notice much from Cooking. Now with all the changes, Cooking is almost useless as well as any other craft (Mule is Cloth)
I also used to set up KS30 ODS runs and took 20% of drops. Split between 4 BLMs I was making 5-10m a week during the high inflation. Now, it's not even worth doing anymore.
I'm glad the RMT are going away, but until they stop crafting, I won't be happy as that's my main source of income.
I agree with the parent post as well as both responses. Sony's hardware is top notch. This wifi thing is a design decision; not a flaw. As the OP stated, if you see this as a flaw, then your PC is flawed because the OS uses some of your RAM.
However, Sony makes some HORRIBLE marketing decisions as of late. I see this as more of a problem with "one hand doesn't know what the other is doing" rather than a Sony fuck-up. Sony's been pumping out some innovative shit lately, they just screw themselves over with how they decide to market it. For example, if they would bundle UMD movies with DVDs for $5 more than the DVD alone, they would sell a LOT more UMDs. Or if they let homebrew go on the PSP, they'd sell a LOT more PSPs.
Either way, don't call this a Sony fuckup. All this amounts to is someone who doesn't like Sony trying to spin an announcement way out of proportion.
Actually, Linux does run quite well. However, it needs to be stripped down for the small amount of system/video RAM the PS3 has.
I'm glad the NY senators voted no. As much as I don't like Hillary, at least she did this right.
So, use trees closest to the tree line or in the desert? Since they grow really slow.
This is the only reason I haven't switched from Windows completely. When windows games work 100% or all games come as a linux version, I'll switch.

Daddy's PC, maybe. Mine to tinker with? Absolutely. I was the one who bought our first CD-ROM, Sound Card, and yes, a Voodoo 3.
