Professional programs inspire the community to create free programs that have similar functionality - MS office->OpenOffice, Unix->Linux & BSD, Adobe Photoshop->GIMP, IE->Mozilla & Opera.
I partly agree, but I have to say: OpenOffice originates from the (still existing) StarOffice, which started a long time ago as a commercial, closed-source product (heck, I remember I bought StarWriter for DOS a long time ago).
Same with Mozilla: Mozilla didn't start as a copy of IE, its history is much more complicated (think Netscape/Mosaic... look up on Wikipedia, if you want, I'm sure they have a long article about it)
Don't want to troll, but after reading the review the games seems less than exciting...
It's like: very similar, but not as good as the first part. And the graphics are not so good, too.
The (apparent) battery-life problem can eventually be solved through better battery technology
Sounds like PSP version 2.0 is the way to go... I just hope this won't be too late for the PSP, like the improved 2nd version of N-Gage doesn't sell so well. Because once a console has the image of a "loser" it's difficult to get rid of this image...
Right, the first link in the article must be the actual disk image, later maybe a link to the web site (so people can find out about hardware requirements, features, etc.). The list of mirrors should come last, as the project is unworthy if the server doesn't survive the stampede of the slashdot crowd...
WHY? A little more careful approach would make downloads faster and save the server's admins a lot of trouble...
What I wanted to ask: is this a Win-only version or is the file just a self-extracting.exe?
I mean, does it run under my SCUMM-emulator on my Zaurus or under Mac OS X (sorry, no Windows here).
This is sales of Linux *SERVERS*, not the OS itself.
Good point as we all know these servers now run pirated copies of the superior Microsoft(C) Windows(TM) Server 2003(C)(TM)(R).

Metal Gear Movie?

Wouldn't it be much more of an insult if I said I finished the game in an afternoon? Nice graphics, but no challenge?
And the beutiful 3D map doesn't tell you where items are hidden, it just tells you where YOU are...
I really liked this game (hence my movie making ideas) and I'm looking forward to buying the sequel (whenever I have a little more time to play).
It would have to be a very different script, almost a different story.
He's destryoing my dreams to become a big movie producer. I just wanted to release my blockbuster movie of Metroid Prime (2 years in the making!) to the public. Highlights include my 28 attempts to kill that plant-like boss monster and hours of clueless running around searching for these things you have to collect. Notworthy are also thousands of rather unaesthetic falls when I jumped too short and had to climb up a long way - again...
... I just read on their website. But, unfortunately, it's just advanced privacy:-( While also nice, we unfortunately will have to resort to our standard piracy tools...
and you will emerge... as a sparkling one-carat diamond
Hey, many slashdot readers might even emerge as two or 2.5-carat diamonds! Isn't that wonderful? For the first time my wife would be happy I'm so... big.
Anyone else feel like the "no offense" bits were inserted just to make believe they weren't insults? Almost as bad as using "with all due respect"...
Depends if you'are able to distinguish between a character in a TV series (I didn't criticize his acting, which I think was good!) and a real person.
So my criticism goes mostly towards the script writers or producers.
I'm really looking forward to this. I'm using Google's image-search very often (and love it!) and I could really use video clip-search.
However, considering how well many sites hide the actual video clips (and I'm not talking about porn), I guess Google might face strong resistance from content providers (wasn't there last week a story about a porn website sueing Google over image-search?)

that's incredible!
It's not a question of money, but of having a time machine.
So how about that?

Excuse meee?
Apparently, the BIOS is designed by General Software
Is this the company that also developed the famous "General Protection Fault"?
I promise to clean your room, do your homework, give you neck rubs, check for typos, and build a perpetual motion machine!
Wow, that's fantastic... where can I download this stuff?

On the side, you find a sticker that says: "Powered by ATi"
Does that mean AMD has won?

I wonder why they just don't make these things net ready?
The internet is just not yet ready for gaming. Besides, even if it was possible, there is no demand for this kind of feature.
Ahhh! That was the Return button.
(sorry)

Is that you, grampa?

Finally I can make my functions so much prettier.
