In theory, yes. But in practice, with the varying seat locations in a typical theatre, I think it would be not as effective as you'd think.

This reminds me of what I was thinking after yesterday's article about Java security problems.

I think society has taken the wrong approach to deploying computers. We execute untrusted code we receive from the internet. We build complex, computerised devices to perform a simple task.

I think that sometimes we should accept that less is more.

That's just made me think - All the articles I have read about autonomous cars focus on the navigation, the situational awareness, the collision avoidance and the machine vision.
I wonder how much work is going into making the robot a better operator of the vehicle - that is, it knows the vehicle's limits, and can drive the vehicle on the edge of those limits if needed. It can counter-steer in a skid, or apply corrective acceleration at the right time to get out of a spin.
Cars are now available which brake the inside rear wheel (or do the same with an electronic diff) to make them corner better - a robot could have control of all of these systems and thus be more capable than any human driver.

Yes, but pointing that out will just make the Apple fans and Google bashers cranky.

    Yeah, great, whatever.

A few facts which I think are relevant:
The Apple dock connector is in a standard location on the bottom of iPhones and iPods. Even then, many devices with docks have a mechanism to adapt to different physical characteristics of different iDevices. But when using a cable, one end is a 20 pin dock connector and the other *a standard Type A USB plug*.
As far as I know, Android phones are not made with a standard port in a standard location to make them "dockable". AFAICT they don't even all have the same type of USB socket, so, like an iDevice, they would need a cable to connect to a standard Type A USB port.
Furthermore any dock in a car needs to be simple, rugged and to hold the device firmly, as well as being adaptable to different devices. Not an easy problem to solve elegantly.
