Yes, the same one. Some of his previous blog posts have been featured here before. The guys seems to be astute, and a straight shooter. I don't know how accurate he is with his insights, but they are worth contemplating.
So... you're saying that he confessed to being a spy in order to throw them of the trail and make them believe that he wasn't a spy when he really was?
But this is what worries me with "smart TVs". They won't be smart enough for long. When a new site comes out e.g. FaceTwit, will the TV be updated to support it? Well, it wouldn't be in the manufacturer's interests, as they will want you to buy a new TV. So unless it can be rooted and runs an open source OS like Android, so you can take charge of updates yourself, your shiny new smart TV will quickly become out-of-date.
They said exactly the same thing about the Japanese, 40-50years ago. Even when Japan started making superior products at lower prices. Then Japan took over most high-end manufacturing for a while.
And who is to blame if the car's software is not the latest version? Sure, it's the car owner's responsibility, but does this translate into blame? And everyone can't update their car straight away so there will always be some lag. Also, what if it is like Android and your slightly older car may or may not be compatible with the latest version - or it should be but the car maker hasn't made a custom build for your model yet? How does the health care industry (the closest analog I can think of) deal with these issues?
I think it is also partly the invisible nature of radiation.
You can watch a dam burst, you can see a flood coming, you can see the smoke from a chimney, and believe (probably wrongly) that you can react or avoid the consequences.
But with nuclear radiation, you don't know it is there, you don't know how much dosage you have received, and what it will do to you. I think people fear the unknown more than the known.
I am not an american, but I don't think there is enough regional identity for this to happen. I guess there is still a north/south and a little east/west division, but not enough to split into separate countries.
What I see happening is that over the next 15 years, things will get worse, until when oil prices skyrocket agin, the economy will collapse. Because people are restless now when things aren't too bad, they will actually revolt and riot then. That's when the government will use the powers they have been building up recently on a large scale against the citizens, to attempt to keep order. I can't really guess at how that will turn out, but I can't see the government backing down and reducing control.
I fully agree. This is one of the major reasons why I don't have a home theatre setup. Too difficult for other users. In this modern world of technology, why can't we have some simple standard bus to connect devices, which all manufacturers implement to the spec which allows sensible control of each other? Why does there have to be so much overlap in functionality? Every device is made with a tuner, and a display, and sound control, and a remote. Why are things deliberately incompatible? I can't send HDMI through my old analog amp.
Sadly, If I was just a little more cynical, I would accept the answer (hint:Something I read the other day said that the difference between Apple and other mobile phone makers is that Apple want you to love your phone so that you will buy another one, while the other phone manufacturers want you to hate it, so you will buy another one... But the fact is that they all want your money for the least amount of work).
And yet, that is an entirely rational choice for them. If they won't still be here in 200 years, nor their children, and probably not their grandchildren, do they really care about the fate of the earth?
I was thinking they should be administered as a subcutaneous pellet like long term contraceptives. This would ensure that the entire course is taken.
This gives me something to ponder...
If breaking copyright laws is now a criminal offence, is increasing the duration of copyrights a form of retroactive/retrospective legislation?
So, you want something more like Moral Rights.
so Google developed Android to give the market a choice
Please think about what you are saying here. Google are in business to give people choice? I don't think so.
Yes, the same one.

The masses are idiots. Including the masses on Slashdot.

A hostage? In Iran?
Perhaps they could get Ollie North to set up some sort of deal to get him back...

Perhaps you could employ some "mock luggage" full of weird, disgusting, embarrassing - but not dangerous - items.
They'd have to be idiots
I think you've identified the problem.

I checked, and that is a fact!

You think this is bad? Just wait until they find out that for some cars, no crash is needed.
To quote Ted Nugent (as I love to do) "Spontaneous Combustion"!

Clearly they are too busy coding up new vulnerabilities to have the time for fixes...
Also, I can (and do) pay extra on my electricity bill and have my power provided by 100% renewable sources.

The airships sound superfluous as well. Just use more powerful catapults aiming directly for the destination.
What could possibly go wrong?
You forgot to end your sentence with a ******.

Ha ha. The three replies so far all saying - "That remote looks good to me" are making your point for you. But they don't realise it.
