  1. foriegn hardware on The RIAA's Push for an Audio Broadcast Flag · · Score: 1

Is it just me, or can anyone else see a future where cracked hardware that ignores DRM flags will suddenly be flooding the market? I can't beleive that the RIAA thinks this is going to work? Who thinks of this? the RIAA's 'gifted' child? All this does is stop US companies. The FCC does not control the world. Gah...the stupidity of this just drives me insane. Wheres my gun?

  2. Primera on What Makes a Good CD/DVD Duplicator? · · Score: 1

I use the primera brand at work with a signature III printer. These things seem to be fairly unstoppable. We've duplicated 1000's of CD's. The printer works well as well witht he right media. I think you can set this up for around $1600, probably less nowadays. Look for a used one on ebay maybe. However I would also recomend looking into simply buying hard drives in a raid configuration. 3 200 meg drives with a raid controller can store around is 600 meg! Orrr...around 1,000 CD's. The cost is comparable to buying the blank CD media. As long as 2 drives dont go bad....voila its all there quickly accessable.

And whats worse-in my case the employer lied. "Oh no we're not training them to replace you, we just expect that you will be busy with other projects..." Yeah other projects like looking for work. They paid for it in the end....HAH! And when they asked me back to help "save the company"....I didnt feel much desire to.

  8. motion m1200 on What Kind of Tablet PC to Buy? · · Score: 1

im replying on it now. its the best purchase I have made in a lon time.

Get a second battery. Read comic books, markup manuals for changes, read book [MUCH better the a laptop]. its among the lightest-and the make or break for these-the other tablets are too heavy ussualy. and thats why you see peope saying don't.

the m1300 im o ow has been totaly stable, sometime the back is warmer then I would like but not ussually.

and cool factor is nice too. but for me the usability is awesome

  9. actually this WON'T take more fossil fuels on Ethanol to Hydrogen Reactor Developed · · Score: 4, Informative

To the nay sayers pointing out that it takes 1-1.5 gallons of fossil fuels to make one gallon of ethanol you missed a important part of this. "Ethanol can usually only be burnt if it is completely free of water - and getting the water out is an energy-intensive process. Schmidt's reactor works with wet ethanol." So this doesnt require PURE ethanol, it can accept the water being left in, which according to that statement is a large part of the energy intensive process to make ethanol. So this isn't the 'pure' ethanol.

  10. TabletPC's make e-books workable on Doctorow: Ebooks Neither E Nor Books · · Score: 2, Interesting

Seriously-my palm zire 71 was just too small [although for reading in the bathtub it can't be beat]. But my motion tabletpc works great for this. the screen is big enough, and its among the lighter tablets-meaning its truly workable for reading with. My favorite author sold a hardback book with a CD of all of his older books-I was in heaven. You can even read comic books without the size relationship being distorted. They have a close out fo older motion m1200's going on for like $1300. yeah its spendy-but it truly makes e-books worthwhile, and reading is one of my major hobbies. Not to mention you can go out on your porch at night, grab a soda and surf the net under the stars.

Actually no-a in-source programmer would have been more aware that the data was sensitive. The amazing thing in this one is that the coder after being warned that it was a bad idea to post this stuff-went and did it again the next day! I suspect he's gonna regret that.

I think it was daf.stargazer@efn.org became daf@stargazer locally. This is hardly something they need to fear!

  14. I got horror stories on Security Tips for Traveling with Tech Gear · · Score: 1

I travel for work on occasion. I've had some issues. The problem is I insall stuff on customers machines-both hardware and software. The problem is-the stuff I do is complicated, and the tools etc have radios in them, wires, etc. And I carry a peice of luggage full of this kind of stuff. Guard "So what do you do with this stuff?" Me "I install it on ovens" Guard "OK go over there for a second" Guard 2 "Whats this thing?" [holds up a supermole gold profiler] Me "Its a thermal profiler" Guard 2" I though you said you installed ovens?" The long and short is-they're certain I lied to them the first time when all I did was try to keep it simple, and then they're upset because the don't understand what I do. Nor can I easily and simply explain this. I was once searched 13 times in one round trp within the US. One of them said I raised red flags. I imagine it didn't help that I pay for my flights in cash. My shoes ALWAYS set off metal detectors. And they once almost refused to allow me to travel with my laptop because it was broken. Why-because at the prior security point they had dropped and broken it! Canadian customs is the worst. same scenario as above only rude and full of paperwork. Leaving your cordless drill with the battery in as it goes through things....sometimes if they're jostled/compressed they get turned on...and your baggage begins to smoke and catch fire as its going through te x-ray machine. If this happens to you-you will not be flying that day. Do not yell and scream. if you get too excited you also won't be staying at your hotel that night. LOL. Gotta love idiots-that kept me entertained just thinking on it on my flight home.
