    I've had either two or 6 years to judge (depending on how you do the accounting), I wouldn't say that was especially quick. If you think this guy is leading the US in the right direction - I wouldn't say you were especially quick either. I always wondered where some of that 29% approval rating came from - nice to make your acquaintance.

    One company made an incomplete accommodation. Another has yet to do so. The possibility for this still exists.

    Candidates' speeches given to the public for the express purpose of being placed "in capacity" should be public domain too.

    My nation's political discourse is not something to be "given back" to me as a gesture of largesse of the corporations.

    I guess we have a better sense of your degree.

    American public political speech for the purposes of running a civil society should be de facto uncopyrightable. This is how you run a (supposed) democracy. If they don't like it, they can pay the entire annual FCC budget for every clip they want to keep to themselves. We GIVE them spectrum, we PAY to defend and protect it for them, this REALLY IS the very least they can do.

    Personally, I think they should be compelled to air ??? hours of campaign content to help run the system that makes them their fortunes - it might start to reign-in some of the insane budgets "needed" to "win" office these days.

    ...until they burst. Look at almost all of the press before Greenspan's "irrational exuberance" claim - it was all boom, no bubble, "new economic paradigm" talk. Hindsight is 20/20, if people had largely identified the bubbles we've had a significant time BEFORE they burst - they probably would have not been bubbles.

    e.g:
    Stan: "Hey, Bob wanna through your nest-egg in to the stock market? I heard it's a big bubble just waitng to burst!"

    Bob:Um...no.

    IBM didn't "lose" 13,000 jobs - that sounds as if they misplaced them, or had this happen to them. Not so. IBM *cut* 13,000 jobs. Or *slashed* 13,000 jobs. In a related news item: 13,000 IBM *workers* lost their jobs.

    While I totally agree that we need to de-classify corporations as persons (probably the most pernicious single act undermining of our democracy in the last century - and nary a peep!), I don't agree that telemarketing calls are inherently protected speech.

    They may run their script about how I've won a trip to a magical kingdom run by a giant leprosy-spreading rodent all they want - but when the pipe it into my house - thus disturbing the quiet enjoyment of my home, that is not protected.

    If you think it is protected, tell me your address and I will station myself outside your home with my bullhorn and reiterate my position until you see that this too is harassment.

    If they wish to print in the paper their tripe, they may do so (they're called ads).

    If they wish to do their speil on the TV or radio, same deal.

    If they wish to sit on the town green and do it there - annoying, but protected.

    If they - or a heavy breathing mastubator - wants to call me at all times of day or night despite my requests to the contrary - that is harassment, and not protected.

    Is it where the ISP is? The address the bill goes to? Will Earthlink register itself (and all its customers) in California? Even those that retrieve thier mail form a terminal in New York? Will I switch to a company that affords me that protection if it's upheld in court? Oh my heavens, yes!

    However you seem to forget that in Nordic households, healthcare and *good* schools are functionally free (post-tax), whereas in the US these items are exorbitantly expensive (also post-tax). These costs are negligeble to the uber-rich but completely prohibitive to the lower classes and fast becoming so for the middle-classes. Yours is not an apples to apples comparison.
