Not necessarily. You can probably find out how to file a complaint against the guy from the folks at the Romanian Embassy. Romania, like any other country, has affiliations to international law enforcement organizations. It's not like Romanian criminals are above the law.
Television adiction does indeed suck. I used to be addicted until about 4 years ago, when I finally said "enough" and sold my TV set. Now that I don't watch TV any more I have lots and lots of free time to spend on my web browsing addiction.:)
Um, no, I don't use a Dell. My computers are all built by yours truly from parts (except for the laptop), and the monitor is a Planar, not a Dell. I didn't even buy it from Dell -- I linked to Dell's site simply because the spec sheet on Planar's site was in.pdf, and I don't feel like advertising for Adobe. Now the question is, should I still be ashamed of myself for linking to Dell?
The Constitution says I have a right to life, not an obligation. Should I choose to give up that right, I should be free to do so, even if my attempt fails.
Some of us are geeks with lives, and movies actually interest us!
So go to a movie site. I don't expect to see Linux kernel reviews on a movie site, you shouldn't expect to see movie reviews on a geek site, except perhaps geek movies. But Katz seems to think otherwise. Oh well. Reviewing a teen movie only shows what he actually thinks about Slashdot's audience. What's it gonna be next time, Jon? Fuckin' Little Mermaid?
Not everyone acts all indignant. Some of us who haven't been using anything Microsoft in years merely shake our heads in disbelief, wondering for a moment how much more of this shit Microsoft's users can take before they go insane, and then we move on. You don't notice us because since we don't really give a crap about what Microsoft does we're not inclined to comment on Microsoft related stories. We still read them, though, for their high entertainment value.
Why don't people just give up their RedHat, Mandrake, etc and use Debian?
Because the people who use Debian are political wackos and elitist assholes!
That may be a valid reason for some, but not all. I, for one, am a political wacko, an elitist, and you could probably call me an asshole (I couldn't care less), but I use Redhat, not Debian. Why? Because I like Redhat, not Debian. I don't care how easy to use apt is, I still like rpm better because it doesn't try to solve dependency problems by itself. I like being given the power to wreck my system (and restoring it to functionlity w/o doing a complete reinstall), I like being able to install conflicting packages just because I feel like it, I don't need a nanny program holding my hand and resolving dependencies for me. I don't like apt because I have no use for the very features that supposedly make it the "best package management tool around". I'm an elitist asshole, I need raw power, not ease of use.
Well, there are some of us who don't read Salon at all. But we're equally annoyed to see Salon stories in/. because Salon stories are the reason we don't read Salon in the first place.:) So we're really on the same side, but fr different reasons.
It does seem to work in Mozilla, if you have the stupid Flash plugin installed. Oh well. The Moz dev team will probably come up with a UI for enabling/disabling Flash on a per-domain basis, the way cookies are treated now. Until then, there's Konqueror, Galeon, Opera (after those demos, suddenly the ad in Opera doesn't seem so annoying after all)...
In a place where Internet traffic is priced by the megabyte or minute and SMS service by the message, I would imagine the motivation to eliminate spam is a little bit higher than in the country of flat rates.
Um, maybe that's because helping users learn how to work with an OS is the job of a company? Windows, MacOS, UNIX and every other OS known to man has a company behind if offering help and support, and many other companies offering training. And more important, for every OS there's a company spending $$ on advertising and marketing to convince users how "efficient and easy to use" is their OS. Linux is perceived as an OS for geeks? Well, duh. That's what you get if you rely on geeks to support new users.
I don't care what the stupid judge said -- Microsoft is not a monopoly. It does not have exclusive ownership of means of production or distribution channels or anything else, like AT&T or Standard Oil before them did. There are other companies out there that make OSes and office applications and internet browsers, which means there IS competition, and where's competition there's no monopoly.
What's that? Microsoft has 90% of the desktop market? Nobody buys alternatives? Well tough. It's not Microsoft's fault that their competitors can't market their way out of a paper bag. Sure, they "leveraged" their position in the OS market to drive out competitors in other markets blah blah blah, but that's because THEY HAD SOMETHING TO LEVERAGE which was not a monopoly, since there were plenty of players in the OS market at the time.
And now Microsoft's so-called "competitors" in a supposedly monopolized market whine and moan for Microsoft to be split up and forced to port their code to other platforms and whatnot because they were/are simply TOO STUPID to compete with Microsoft? And 9 states agree with this? Sheesh, people, WTF is wrong with you?
And don't even get me started about the so-called Linux "advocates" who can't stop gushing about how open source is so much better than proprietary software and how Linux can take on Windows on the desktop, and in the same breath start whining about Microsoft document formats not being open. Feh.
I'm SO tired of all this crap. Look, it's really simple: if using Linux makes sense for you, just use the damn thing and STFU already. If using Linux does not make sense for you, bend over and take the shaft from Microsoft. It's that simple.
The last game I played was Metal Gear Solid 2. Nice game, but my wife got addicted to watching it because of the stupid long movies. When I finished it, she asked me to play it on a higher difficulty level so she can watch it again.:-/
I'd say the slashdot editors should grow up a bit and develop a "subitastory" system
I'd say you're free to put up your own weblog if you don't like this one, and publish whatever you want on it. Nobody's forcing you to stay here and whine. On the contrary, I'd be glad to read less "100% useless whining, 0% content" posts on slashdot.
The geek community could learn a LOT from trying to emulate Linus' behaviour.
I'm trying, but when I tell people I don't care about Microsoft they call me an elitist. Well, actually I am an elitist, but what's that got to do with it?
Unrelated observation: stupid reporters ought to stop churning the same stereotypical questions and start reading the kernel mailing list if they want insight on Linus. His posts on the list are SO much more meaningful than what you can read in your standard Linus interview in Wired magazine.
Now why exactly would I want to run buggy, bloated, insecure Microsoft shit on my server, and even pay money for the privilege?
Not necessarily. You can probably find out how to file a complaint against the guy from the folks at the Romanian Embassy. Romania, like any other country, has affiliations to international law enforcement organizations. It's not like Romanian criminals are above the law.

Nope. S-Video capable monitor.
Gaming all the way! Who the hell needs TV when I've got Final Fantasy X?
The Constitution says I have a right to life, not an obligation. Should I choose to give up that right, I should be free to do so, even if my attempt fails.
Would you even consider the average wealthy Chinese citizen with online access truly 'on the Internet'?
Maybe I wouldn't, but I bet 2 million American homeless people would.
Or even "Winux". As in "Shhh... Be vewy vewy quiet. I'm hunting Winux." You think Elmer Fudd would sue?
It's not ridiculous, it's the story of my life. My sex life, that is.

Could it mean that you hacked it?

...because, as every well-educated consumer knows, happiness is in the things we own.

The American Red Cross, American Rescue Team, the Salvation Army are only a few organizations among many others for which you can volunteer to help the poor and disadvantaged people in a foreign country called America. Hope it helps.
