Loved the old LJII... Had one that fell off a table in the Northridge Quake of '94 (about 5 miles from the epicenter).
Picked it up (with a lot of effort:P), put it back on the table, plugged it in, and turned it on (once the power was back up). It worked. No fuss, no muss.
Somehow, I don't see *any* of HP's equipment doing that nowadays.

At UC Santa Cruz, we went through this back in the early '80s (83-84). In fact, the students even organized to protest the theory-based curriculum. (OT: Any old CISSA members out there?)
Of course, we wanted courses in VAX Assembler and C. When I got out into the real world, it turned out that the theory that I had learned was of much more practical use than the so-called "practical" classes I took -- with the exception of C, which I learned on my own.
To be honest, I always thought Gates McFadden was better looking that Marina Sirtis.
And for those who are wondering about Mulgrew, may I please refer you to the guilty pleasure epiosde Macrocosm. The episode sucks, but Janeway-as-Ripley is hot!
