It gives them a sense of power of angering others since they probably have little of it in their own lives. They are just a bunch of egos themselves. I don't buy in to the group think of slashdot. More often than not I have a different opinion than the majority of people getting modded up. I post my counter view in an intelligent way, and guess what? I get modded up for it (well, except with Apple, they mod everyone down unless it is pro-apple *note: tongue in cheek*). If you really have a different opinion, then stick it out there. If it is reasonable, you will get modded up. Trolling does nothing but hurt the conversation and any point you were trying to make. Wise troll is an oxymoron.

This does not lend itself to being even in PvP because some classes will be designed to be in a support role. It is more important that every class feels like it brings something special and useful to a group. One on one PvP is over-rated. There will always be one "best" class for it. Group PvP makes things much more interesting...and as long as you are a good player, you should be able to play any class and contribute significantly. If you can't, then there really is a class imbalance.

Not that this is totally bad, but our country is founded on the freedom of belief and minority rights. So when people impose their beliefs on others through government, then a lot of people get upset. Just because a majority of people want a law, doesn't mean it is right or constitutional. A majority of people wanted slavery and women not to vote at certain times in history...it is clear that minorities need to be protected. But this really doesn't have to do anything with the law. If people want to stop porn, they should be doing at the users computers, not at the ISP. I like the .xxx idea because it is good for parents to filter that stuff out and good for people who like porn because it will be easier to find. In any case, don't take the "right wing nut jobs" stuff to heart. Their are wackos on both sides of the fence and let's face it...in generel, most people are just dumb.

  8. This is fine on The Revolution Will Not Be HD · · Score: 1

Reading through the posts that are modded up, one would think that Nintendo somehow tracks down people who have mod points and pays them to mod in their favor. Is it a big deal that Nintendo isn't going to support HD? Nah. It is disappointing to some of us who have HDTVs? Sure. If it makes Nintendo consoles cheaper then it may give them advantage in the market for this next gen (even if it didn't for this one). I would imagine it would be the console of choice if parents were choosing a console for their child. Where it might hurt them a little is non-exculusive game sales. If I have a choice on which console to get a game, I will pick it on the console that looks best on my TV. Is that going to kill Nintendo? Of course not. I still don't see anything about the Revolution that really changes it from the current gen. It will have the cheapest console with great exclusive games. The other consoles will have more power (well, not totally true now as the Gamecube > PS2). I don't think the Revolution will dominate the market, though. Mainstream gamers are going to go with the PS3 or 360 because of Nintendo's image and lack of features. There is no need to get defensive about this, though. Nintendo will do what it does best and make tons of profit. Personally, I am happy we have so many choices these days.

As annoying as this is, a lot of times customers change their requirements on you and you have to scrable. So even good planning isn't going to save you there. Crunch time is fine as long as it is a short period. You can get a lot of quality, focused word done. Extended perirods of crunch time leads to burn out and poor product quality. You need to find a balance.

Graphics are only one piece of gaming. There is this dumb notion on here that enhanced focus on graphics is causing a decline in game play. It's easy to fall in to this trap that stuff in the past was better than it is now. Ever talk to old people? They remember the stuff they did as the best things in the world...like playing kick the can. We tend to remember things better than they were. Games were fun and new...but quite frankly, there were plenty of 8-bit games that sucked just as much as our fancy ones suck today. There wasn't more focus on gameplay. There were only 10 people working on the whole game. Now there are 100s of people involved. There are people purely dedicated to the gameplay and purely dedicated to graphics. Having a pretty game does not take focus away from gameplay. Do you think game makers are more naieve then the morons posting on this site? Of course not. There are still awesome games being created and they look pretty too. The only thing that slightly justifies the argument that graphics take away from the game is that the more you stick in to graphics, the less processor you have left for AI. But games from the past didn't use AI..unless you consider a turtle walking back and forth between two pipes something that can pass the Turing test.

It has never been better for games. We have three consoles + PC to choose from. All of them have fantastic exclusive and non-exclusive games. Yes, there are crap games, but there always was crap games. The next generation will be exiting because programmers will be able to have more room to push their games to the limits. Seriously, if graphics didn't matter, there would never had been a need to move off of 8-bits.

Sure, there are some games with MS on it, but they are just companies that they bought. I want Sony and MS to put their focus on hardware, that is all they have to freaking concentrate on. Let the game companies concentrate on making good games. I doubt Nintendo will come out on top as far as sold units go. But they will make more profit and still exist...so things will be just fine. The problem with mouse + keyboards on consoles is that they usually limit you to the maximum movement speed of what you could move by pushing your analog stick as far over as possible. This translates in to very sluggish movement for anyone used to PC FPS. I am glad they do that so mouse/keyboards don't have as huge advantage over controllers for online competitive play. But really, do you even want a mouse/keyboard with your console. Controllers are great...you can recline on your couch and play. Now you have to set up some sort of surface in front of your TV to play console games? Blah, count me out. The PC is just better for FPS and RTS. I absolutely prefer RPGs on my console, though.

You don't need to write a letter to Sony and Microsoft because (for the most part) they don't make games. You can write a letter to Nintendo because they still make a lot of games. And yes, there are innovative games on the PS2 like Katamari Damacy. But with genres maturing there are going to be a lot more games that are going to have a similar feel. This is great for most people because they can get games they know they will probably like based on genres and reviews. Every now and then there will be innovative gem of games. You know why it seems like there are less innovative games these days? Because gaming isn't new anymore. Any game you used to make was innovative because it was a new media. There are more great games out there than any employed person has to time to play...if you can't find innovation, you aren't looking hard enough.
