That's great, except for the fact that you are wrong. For whatever reason, they decided to disable that portion of the game. It got rated without that content. External parties went back in and enabled it. No big deal. The only way Rock Star did anything wrong is if you could prove that they left that content in there to be discovered and made it easily unlockable.
And use correct terms. They did not have a 'secret hack'. They had a mini-game that was too stupid to include with the game so they disabled it. The rest of #1 is just what you think, it's opinionated garbage...stick to facts. Point #2. Yeah, picking up hookers is non-sexual, right? I would consider that worse than having consentual sex with your girl friend...but if you think doing hookers is more moral, then yeah, maybe the rating system should have add a whole year to the age of acceptable users. Again, didn't put out the hack. So your conclusion in 4 is wrong party and bs guessing on the other part. Nice try.
The shadowrun RPG was so much fun. It had an interesting story and some challenging puzzles. I thought...wow, maybe I need to get a 360. But a FPS...thanks, I'll pass. I still feel FPS are much better suited for computers. Even with a keyboard and mouse on console...it's not really set up for that. Consoles are for leaning back on my recliner and using a controller.
He's actually, kinda chubby... when he comes over I take him for a jog in Prospect Park, or we play Sonic Heroes or one of the other shitty games he digs.
To aruge that kids aren't influenced by what they see and do is kind of absurd.
Are you blaming Sonic Heroes for him being chubby? Or are you saying that while running in the park he tries to roll in to a ball to gain speed? Yeah, I am sure he is really influenced by hedgehogs these days.
Well, the picture of the boss at the end was very clearly Hitler. I can't remember 99% of college, but I still remember that game and fighting Hitler at the end. Not historically accurate, but still a lot of fun and challenging.
You are a very confused person. Responsible parent do (not ought to) ensure their children don't buy or play inappropriate games. They don't need to accompany their kids to the mall, they play these games at home. Parents who are involved with their children find out what their kids are doing at their friends house my making sure those parents are involved and know what games they are playing. If they aren't around, the can't go over there. You say the people who make these games should be held responsible...what the hell are they supposed to do. They make a game, it gets a rating, and that's all that needs to be done. All of you people crying that it is their fault don't ever offer any sort of real solution other than neuter the content of the game. But listen up. I am a 27 year old adult who is an upstanding person in my community. If I want to play a game geared to adults, it is my right to go out and buy GTA and enjoy it (I didn't find SA all that good actually). This world is not run by children and content of games intended for adult should not be changed for their sake.
Your last point is so stupid. If people make games that are used in ways they were not intended...they are not responsible. But really, what negative effect is the game having on people? Are children suddenly confused and having sex with their close on now? How dare rockstar let that happen. Maybe they should make sure that they only have sex after they are married in a catholic church. We all know there isn't pre-marital sex going on in the real world. Listen, if Bush isn't held responsible for killing thousands of innocent iraqis based on false information about WMD, then why should rock star be held responsible for a game that is geared towards 17+ that has the tame and stupid sex game disabled.
I am sorry, but you are so completely wrong it hurts me to read what you write. It's just so completely stupid.
Games are not always properly rated: Pleave, give some examples. Even with the dumb sex game in it, I think 17+ is absolutely appropriate. So your point wouldn't have mattered in this case.
Ratings are confusing: Yeah, they are confusing for idiots...these people shouldn't reproduce if you can't figure out this system. Hell, let's make it a test for procreation. Look at this game and tell me what age group should play it. Hmm, it has a giant M on it that says it is for 17+. I am guessing 17+. Yay, you are allowed to reproduce.
Stores don't enforce ratings: bs. You don't hear when they do enforce it. If someone sells it to a minor...fire them. Most kids don't have 50 bucks for the game in the first place.
Stores don't advise on ratings: advise what? It's on the damn box. Stupidity of people should not be legislated.
Long, run-on sentence about jumbled together games: Listen, again, these parents are stupid. It doesn't matter what new technology comes out in the future, if my kids are doing it, I will find out about it. It's called personal responsability and THIS IS NOT THE JOB OF THE GOVERNMENT.
Developers are not the problem...at all. Their job is to create something that we want. Don't try to guess thoughts in their heads. They could have thought the mini-game was too lame so didn't leave it in.
And, if they are bound and determined to make an "adult" game, they need to stop being so half way about it and just make an adult content game.
Man, you are driving me nuts...what is wrong with you? IT IS AN ADULT CONTENT GAME. What, you think that one year is the difference between an adult and a kid? 17 year olds can handle this game. They can handle the lame mini-game hack. You and the government are over-reacting. Period.
eh, calm down...losing a few mod points isn't the end of the world. They probably though it was flamebaitish because the attitude you took and cursing the guy out. You could have just pointed out (politely) that you didn't appreciate that Slashdot posted links on how to do the hacks. But really, you have to understand...slashdotters are a lot of engineers...we like to break things down and see how they work. If there is a way to mod something, a way to hack something, we want to understand how it works, even if we don't play the game you take too seriously. In any case, the servers are down, this will be fixed...there really isn't a reason to freak out so much. Free yourself...stop caring about mod points, they are meaningless anyways.
I totally disagree, music can do that...even in your examples. Just change the music as the bomb apporaches the bomb site to something more tense. Once it is planted, change it again. If it is defused, happy music for the cts...if not, sad music. The reason why this isn't on multiplayer is so you can hear the footsteps of your enemies and the environment. You get more emersion because there isn't any music...like I'd really be fighting people with my IPod blaring Hollaback girl. I really don't think it is a crucial step but clearly, it has been done and thought of before.
You have issues, my friend. Japanese are "suckers" just like everywhere else in the world. XBox was just not geared to their lifestyle. They like sleek, compact designs since they have much smaller living spaces. The original controller was too large for their hands. The XBox was designed with a Westerners in mind and that is why it failed there. Not because they aren't suckered in as much as Westerners or some other ignorant, racist statement like that. There are plenty of appealing things about the XBox and there are plenty of good games as well. Just because you weren't impressed with Halo, many others were. What gives you the right to tell others what there taste should be? The XBox is graphically superior to the PS2 and the Gamecube. I don't mind the fact it takes up space, I have a big house. I like the controller better than my other consoles. But I like having all the three because all three have great exclusive games. Get over your elitist attitude. Yeah, all the new conosles are all FPS/media machines...give me a break. You know what they are...they are computers, that's it. So if you think they are lame, you must hate the thing you are typing on right now because it is essentially the same damn thing.
I wish you would wake up and see not everyone has to like the same things you like. Seriously, grow up.
Of course, the sex scene in Team America had to edit out some parts or it would have been an NC-17. Apparantly you can do a lot with puppets these days.
They were anti-online because they thought the market wasn't ready for it. Man, even in fanboy submitted articles, fanboys find something to complain about.
Among all the hype with all 3 consoles, I hope as much attention is being paid to game playability and fun factor.
The only company that can pay attention to playability and "fun" is Nintendo since they are the only ones that are making games (with small exceptions). So Sony and MS should focus on making their consoles easy to program for and make sure that they have the power and features that gamers want. They need to focus on controller comfort and size. They can't focus on "fun" because that is up to the third parties that make games for those consoles.
The Genesis, NES, and TurboGraphx16 werent online (well, the Genesis was with XBand eventually), and some of the most innovative, playable games were released on those 3 platforms.
Guess what, it is really easy to make innovative games when console games before did not exist. The market is maturing and things are falling in to genres. There are still plenty of great and innovative games that come out. Just more games now are built on previous genres. It's a good time to be a gamer really.
Here we are now in the wireless age and I cant count how many shooter titles are on the Xbox, or generic RPG titles are available on the PS2. The GC clearly still holds rank with gameplay innovation, but interestingly they sit 3rd overall in the worldwide console battle.
Garbage. The PS2 has plenty of excellent RPGs. Nintendo is really weak in the RPG department...it could use some generic RPGs because it is failing to hit that demographic. XBox has plenty of great non-fps games. Just because all you hear from the masses is about Halo, doesn't mean gamers still enjoy what the Xbox has to offer beyond the fps. Xbox is nice for non-exclusive titles since it has the best graphical capabilities. The GC is a good console. Nintendo makes some innovative games (but 3rd parties make innovative games on other consoles as well). Nintendo's strength is their exclusive titles and ability to make a profit. But they still have flaws. Graphically, their games target a younger audience. It doesn't bother me, I enjoy the games, but to some, that hurts its image. Nintendo is a pain to work with as a 3rd party developer making them lose out on some good titles. As mentioned earlier, lack of any good RPGs makes it miss a whole section of gamers. So it isn't surprising at all they aren't top dog.
Its kind of sad, really. The market seems to be more concerned with whether or not I can get on the net with yet ANOTHER device, instead of making games compelling enough for me to WANT to get online with it.
What's sad is that you are so biased. Sony and MS are focusing on the only thing they can focus on: their console. They don't make games so they can't do anything about compelling you. But seriously, if you can't find good games on any of the 3 consoles, then you are either ignorant or a liar.
I know you are trying to say something nice. But seriously, what country doesn't make it through these things? It's human to be fearful at first and then move on once things return to normal. If this is all it took for a country to crumble, countries wouldn't exist.
Not that I can speak for the left, but being part of that group, I don't think Bush is evil, I think he is misguided and incompetant. Listen, he lied to us (even though he can say bad intel., he chose to ignore the majority of intel. out there that said there were no weapons) and made others lie for him to attack a country. He is responsible for the death of thousands of innocent people. He might not want the death of those innocents, but still, he is responsible for them.
As far as Saddam being a terrorist, you can kind of make a case. But really, he was just a brutal ruler. He took down people in his own country so that he could have control. He attacked Kuwait, sure, and did bad things...but is that really a terrorist? I think the right uses that word way too much that it has lost all meaning. When we talk of a war on terrorism, we mean stopping terrorists who are going to do damage to our country. Iraq was not a terrorist threat. Period. Saudi Arabi is much more of a threat than Iraq, but Bush doesn't have the balls or the brains to stand up to our oil ally. So label Saddam whatever you want, it doesn't justify the war.
No one is arguing that we have to take a bigger role in the world to prevent attacks. That is what the left has been saying for years and it took 9/11 for the right to ditch their isolationist policies. But the actions this administration are taking is just making things worse. The Iraq war was a personal vendetta that Bush wanted at the very start...I mean, they tried to take out his dad. You think he just put that aside? So now Iraq is full of real terrorists thanks to us. Hell, we put Saddam in power in the first place. I don't blame Iraqis for hating us, we continue to make thier lives hell based on "good intentions".
Speaking of faith, I am losing faith on the ability of the right to be able to govern the country without infecting it with their beliefs. These are beliefs, other people don't believe what you believe. Have the guts to stand up for what this country really stand for...the ability for all of us to be free to believe what we want. Do not cram your morals down our throat. We were founded on religious freedom, not Christianity.
Really, I hate this whole right vs left thing. But if you are going to go there, I am willing to go down that road too.
Here's my take on it: Programming and painting are skill sets. You can paint houses, roads, portraits, "Dogs Playing Poker", or the Mona Lisa. But you don't hear anybody asking "is painting art?" Painting, like programming is a skill set with which you can create art.
Ok, I am with you here.
It's not a stupid question; if your man were trying to create art with 100Base-T as his chosen medium, he certainly could.
Ok, here I disagree. It is an incredibly stupid question. What Bob does is amazing. But he does it because it is more efficient for maintaining and repairing. I would have to shoot anyone who would try to steal one of our racks and put it on display. You are moving in to more of what I call "bullshit art". It's real name is modern art and the last thing it is is art. Writing your name on an old toilet seat and a half eaten wax apple is not art. Yeah, some moron gets paid big bucks to do it, but that's because there are bigger morons out there who fall for it. Now I am not saying that someone can't do something artistic with a router and fiber, I am just saying, that's not what Bob does. It's beautiful because it is functional. Art has no real function but to be beautiful. Sounds like some of the girls I have dated.
Not to be offensive, because I was one 3 years ago, but you sound like a college student. You have all these ideas and you put them down well on paper. If I were your English teacher, I would give you an A. I just say this because it sounds like you are disagreeing with me just for the sake of an argument. If you are 72...sorry, just the impression I get. But just because something has "artistic elements", it doesn't make it art. It can be appreciated by people in the field, but when we call it art, it is more of an expression than we think it should be on display. No, science does not have to be mutually exclusive with art...but at a certain point, you have to draw a line. Programming is way way on the science side of that line. Think of it this way: is there ever going to be a museum of programming where a good looking woman in a monitone voice explains to you the time and significance of a bunch of lines of code? Does everyone say "oooh" and get it? Not a world I would want to live in.
A constant question for software developers is 'What is the nature of programming?' Is it art or science?
Maybe I am a strange software developer, but these are not the questions going on through my mind at night. Maybe "how can I improve the design" or "what does the customer really want from this product" but usually it's "how can I get that cute girl back to my place". Seriously though, these people have too much time on their hands. I didn't RTFA, so it may be brilliant. But programming is definitely a science. The thing is, that as programmers, we can recognize beauty in the design and implementation of a program. In that sense, to us, it can be beautiful. We might say the programmer is so good that he is an artist. But this is true in any field. We have someone install our networks and truly, he is an artist. He takes the spaghetti of thousands of cables and makes it so neat and logical it would make an artist weep. But is it art? No...that's a stupid question.
Really, you guys drive me nuts. Everything Nintendo does is suddenly the "best possible" outcome for Nintendo. Let's be honest here, coming out last is a mistake. Maybe coming out 2nd would be beneficial to hide some of its ideas, but I can't imagine it being anything that is going to be a "killer app" to make it the must have console.
So let's focus on what Nintendo has going for it (in regards to its competition). 1) They will have the cheapest console. 2) Their console is much more desirable to families with children. The problem with coming out last is that it takes away some of the bang of #1. By this time, XBox and maybe the PS3 will be on its next rev of hardware. They probably will already have dropped the price, thus cutting the edge that Nintendo has with its price. Also, you have two systems out there. A lot of people will have spent a good sum of money on at least one of those consoles and won't be able to justify getting a new one. While Nintendo is not at risk of going out of business (they are extremely profitable), only Nintendo apologists can justify this as a good thing (in the sense of them "winning" the so called console war).
Why make something so simplified that it is useless. The early adopter pays more money, but they also are taking more of a risk. The first revs of consoles generally have more bugs and have more critical failures than later revs. And your point really doesn't make sense. It's not like a new console comes out and then you ditch the old one. You can just put off buying the newest console and get that extra year out of the old one. Your justifications are just to weak to be taken seriously.
Why is this a problem? It isn't. Only to people who have some weird game egos is it a problem. Will hardcore gamers pass you up? Sure..but who the hell cares, the point of games isn't the destination, but the journey. Too many people lose track of that. Limiting others playing time just because you can't is just selfish and dumb. Oh wait, you can't play for a whole week...better shut down the servers for you. Saying casual and hardcore can't be mixed flies in the face of every single MMORPG to date. If they couldn't co-exist, these games would be financial disasters. A lot of them are doing just fine...so they CAN mix. The problem is that SOME casual gamers want to be as powerful as hardcroe gamers but they don't have the time. Trying to get rid of that is silly. If someone wants to put in more time, shouldn't they be rewarded for that? Try to look at it fromo the other person's perspective. How would you like to be penalized because you spend more time in the game (I know WoW does this to a certain extent, but it isn't too significant)?
Did you see the one where the Starbucks like company moved in to south park? Everyone got all up and arms to save their local store from the evil of the big company moving in right next door. But after they actually tasted the coffee, they found that Starbucks didn't taste like grabage like the independant stores. It seems this is the same to me. These stores offer a better price and more selection...so seriously, screw the independant store. The only thing he has a point about is still buying the old games. But if we get the "evil" company to buy the older system games and stock those we have the best of all worlds. It's cheap and centrally located. The only thing an independant store could be able to offer would be if they gave the consumer better quality of servce...they inspected games better, knew the games better, and have a friendly atmosphere. Honestly, though, quality is usually worse in these independant stores. So give me better prices...I won't shed a tear for the small companies. The big companies today were small companies at one point that did so well that they are now everywhere.
That's great, except for the fact that you are wrong. For whatever reason, they decided to disable that portion of the game. It got rated without that content. For a Christian game to be successful, the first two thing it should NOT do is preach. The second thing it shouldn't do is educate.
Sorry, I am sure this is just a typo...but it appears from this sentence that maybe a little education might be a good thing.
Look at the American stock market...and this isn't even an attack in our country. Terrorism focus is to damage the economy.

How would you like to be penalized because you spend more time in the game (I know WoW does this to a certain extent, but it isn't too significant)?
lol, right...good point.
