This seems to be the popular sentiment. What you are saying is mostly true...in regards to sales being down. But I think Nintendo is absolutely correct to be focusing on competing with Apple. The iPhone, iPad, etc are playing right in to its market. If you have an iPhone, and it has plenty of games to keep you entertained, you probably are less likely to buy a handheld. And I am sure Apple is eating in to some of their potential market already so I don't think it is totally invalid to claim it is a factor in their sales drop.

From a GUI perspective, you just click on the file. From command line, you just tab auto-complete it. I think this is one of those "problem exists between keyboard and chair" sort of thing.

Either buy them on the cheap from services that provide updates to the old game or get an emulator and download a copy of the game. By the time Steam shuts down (if it ever does in the near future) there will be plenty of work arounds. So yeah, you can say I am "renting" it, but in reality I'll still be able to play it no matter what they do.

Searching for facts and reporting them without your personal or corporation bias.

The concept that "all journalism is biased" is floated out there by Fox News to justify the garbage that they spew. "Sure, we have bias, but everyone does so that makes it ok for us to lie constantly!" No, no it doesn't. There are journalists dedicated to their profession, but they are getting harder to find. Telling people what they want to hear sells better to morons than actual news. Unfortunately, the majority of people are morons so we all have to suffer for their need to reinforce their misguided beliefs.

But maybe you and I like different genres or something. If you read games.slashdot every day I think you lose perspective. Everyone on here just complains about everything. It's a big circle jerk of people all saying how bad it is instead of focusing on how great we have it. We have three solid consoles all competing for our attention (+ the PC!). We have many games studios with proven track records, some better than others, and more access to indie games than ever before. Yeah, some companies have bad DRM...so avoid them. There still is more quality games coming out today than at any point in our history. I think when you are young, you are much less discriminating.

Windows has done this with all the different versions of its OS on one CD. The OS that installs is the one you have a key for.

I buy stuff new generally so not really an issue to me. But I really don't see what the big deal is about this as long as they mark them clearly that if you buy it used you will need to pony up an extra $10 to get the other maps or content. If people don't like it, don't support the company.

When people complain about intrusive it generally has to do being able to play the game or limited number of installs or having to run a CD in your drive. With Steam, you open it up and you play your game. If you get another computer, you log in with your account, download the games you want, and are done. It is quite convenient and not intrusive (in that sense).

He's serious. The Wii is great for social gaming. For those of us who grew up on Nintendo though, the 1st party games are getting pretty tired. I mean, Mario is in every single game? Come on. He isn't a compelling character. Nintendo has become really lazy with character design just relying on past franchises to cash in.

So if you are tired of the same old platformers with the same story and want to play games, then Nintendo's lineup is easily the worst.

Your point about it outselling is largely irrelevant. Nintendo had the exact same first party games in its less console and it sold the worst. They didn't make better games, they made the cheapest console with a control scheme that was more intuitive to non-gamers. It's great that Nintendo has found a new market and it making tons of money. But I am glad there is the option of getting a 360 or a PS3 otherwise I'd be an unhappy gamer. The Wii isn't made for gamers, its made to make money. It tried to appeal to everyone in such a way that it lost its soul.

Imagine how many times you have social occasions with your whole family and grandma. Now imagine when you don't have that situation. That's why I have a 360; it actually gets played. Rock band can fill the role of the game I dust off for parties or family occasions.

All Nintendo really is for the gamers that grew up with Nintendo are the few first party titles. Many other big game companies have left to develop on other platforms. Nintendo hit on the right price point and a control scheme non-gamers can get. That's great. But for actual gamers (and I don't mean hardcore, just those of us growing up playing and loving games) the Wii is the worst of the three consoles this generation.

I don't think graphics make a game, but I do think graphical capabilities can be more immersive. I do think having more power allows for better AI and more complex engines. People get so wrapped up in sales that they seem to forget the most important part. The games. And Nintendo is going for profit rather than delivering something that has the highest number of great games.

Quite frankly the Wii has the fewest games I am interested in playing. The 360 has the most. That is why I have the 360. All these other arguments like profit, attach rate, number of consoles sold, are stupid arguments for fanboys.

Do I feel bad that my 360 doesn't sell as well as the Wii or that MS is making less of a profit? Of course not, why would I care about their financials. I just care that they release games I want to play faster than I can beat them.
