So, in other words, it doesn't matter what women do, there are still going to be jerks that objectify them. So women might as well do whatever they want. If they choose to make money off of these people or people who legitimately want this service, that is their choice.
You on the other hand want to take away their right to choose to this. Quite frankly, your post is more offensive than the majority of the posts on here. Women can take care of themselves. They aren't being forced to do this. Most people are saying things in jest, you are speaking (unless I am way off base) in seriousness. Your post strikes me as more misogynistic than the others. Would you object if a bunch of attractive, muscled men offered the same thing to women? Of course not. It's ok to objectify men as sexual object, but not women? You are the one with the problem.
There is nothing stopping people from making something compelling and 3D. I never really agreed with people who think that being compelling and [insert tech here] are mutually exclusive. Good game companies figure out how to use it well and make something more compelling than it would have been without the tech.
I don't know, have they really done anything all that original with Mario lately? Just feels like sequel after sequel. It actually seems a bit lazy to me since they just reuse the same characters for everything. They drive cars, play tennis, beat the crap out of each other, etc. Just seems like an excuse for Nintendo not to do anything interesting as far as developing new characters.
Yeah, I grew up with Mario, but it is hard for me to get excited about him at this point. Nintendo needs to innovate a little more as far as its characters go.
And you are saying you spend all your money on non-frivolous things? All of it? I have no doubt you spend your money in some way that many people would find just as stupid. If people derive pleasure from it, who are you to tell them what to do?
Sports is different because the high paid players are the best athletes in the world. Many of us play football/soccer and can appreciate how incredible these people are at it. It takes intelligence, team work, and huge amounts of mental and physical preparation. Watching something played at such a high level is enjoyable. People naturally want to cheer on their own country or town. Others gain attachment by just becoming familiar with a great team and becoming a fan.
Farmville on the other hand isn't even really a good game. It takes no intelligence and no skill and is a mindless time waster. Yes, people who just watch other people playing a sport are just being entertained and can be equally mindless. For me, I learn from watching them play. It helps me be a better player because I can see where they move or pass or learn a new move to try on someone else.
I get what you are saying. It bugs me too that if I play a game for 3 hours that seems odd to the majority of the population that will sit and watch TV for 3 hours. Watching your favorite team win some cup is enjoyable and memorable...even if it doesn't mean anything. I played Farmville, you really get nothing out of it and when you finally quit, most people probably wonder why they wasted that much time.
That being said, I believe people should do whatever they want if they are enjoying it. I think most people that play these games do it more out of habit or addiction than are actually getting real enjoyment out of it (I just say that since it is how I feel after quitting those "games")
I disagree. These games are built in to a framework for social communication. Yeah, Farmville doesn't have built in chat, but it doesn't need to because you can be chatting on facebook while you are clicking away on your farm. It is different than a typical MMORPG because it doesn't really have a community (unless you go hardcore in these games and invite strangers). But it still can be a social experience.
Depends on the company. Bethesda isn't really known for their ability to fix bugs. They make huge, open worlds that are pretty amazing, but then largely rely on the community to fill in the gaps.
I don't really think that has anything to do with the DRM it uses. A game company like Blizzard wouldn't have those issues (at least for a single player game, MMOs are a different beast).
Oh jeez, get over yourself. No one can keep a close personal relationship with every one of our friends. We have moved or have families or are just too busy. Facebook is a simple way to keep in touch. I log in, see someone I haven't chatted with in awhile, send them some messages and enjoy seeing how they are doing.
To try to make it seem like that is somehow anti-social and I don't have real friends is moronic. I don't maintain some sort of fake personality. I'll throw up a link or something if I think the people I know will enjoy it and that's about it.
Stop being such a judgmental prick. My "real" friends that I hang out with every weekend are on facebook. It is just an easy way to share things with them. Sometimes they organize events through facebook (like disc golf outings).
If you don't like it, fine, don't use it. But there isn't anything screwed up with people who do and find it useful.
And don't you find it ironic you are telling people to get off the Internet when you are on Slashdot posting all day?
And for the love of all that is good, learn how to use capital letters at the beginning of sentences!
Which isn't surprising since it isn't cutting edge technology.
Your numbers for the 360 are old. No doubt, the original units had an outrageous failure rate, but for people like me who waited...I play my 360 all the time since I bought it and have no issues with it. It's probably the most used tech in my house since I use it for gaming, DVDs, and Netflix.
I think the phrase: two wrongs don't make a right applies here. The people you screw aren't the same people benefiting from the business and I imagine your arguments won't fly in court if you steal fram BoA.
One use of DRM is for the second hand market. There are many DRM schemes that do nothing to prevent second hand sales (like a CD key). Another use of DRM is to curb piracy. Not everyone on this site buys in to the whole groupthink here.
Some companies do lose something when you pirate, particularly the ones who have online resources that you utilize. Even if you just play the single player version and don't touch the online resources, the reason you don't is because you didn't pay for it. A lot of people spent months or years of their life creating that. Yet you feel justified to do whatever you want. I don't really care if you do it or not, but you have to realize you that it is a pretty dick thing to do.
You are supposed to break laws you don't agree with to move forwards and cause change.
That only applies to laws that are unjust. This has nothing to do with unjust laws. This has to do with a company charging for something that is already included on the original disc. Certainly it is something that isn't popular, but it has nothing to do with any laws. A company can charge whatever they want for something and break it up however they want.
People on here use pretty much any gripe they can to not pay for something. It is illegal and unethical for them to do it. Just don't play the game. If people did that, DRM wouldn't exist.
It is simpler than that. It isn't going to do well because it isn't bundled with the console.
Success to them is turning a profit. I think they have a chance to manage that. And what they have learned in making this can pay off in future console generations.
Maybe because his point wasn't comparing the peripherals? He was saying that the Wii isn't as cheap as people seem to make it out to be when you compare the focus of each console. The Wii was designed for local multi-player for casual/party games. 360 and PS3 are traditional consoles designed towards the single-player experience. To play the Wii the way it was made to be play gets expensive pretty fast since you need the peripherals.
The argument comparing how expensive peripherals are is not what he is talking about.
Uh, duh? It's also cheaper than buying a jet plane. But what does that have to do with what Loud Music said? Nothing. You make no sense. If Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor, and tepples is talking about buying laptops instead of Wii controllers, then you must acquit. And also, should ignore anything tepples says because he never makes any sense. The defense rests.
I don't really get why you are so upset. If they were threatening to sue Nintendo over it or if they were blaming Nintendo in any way...then you would have something. But I don't really see that happening. The precious Nintendo that Slashdot loves is safe.
You assume he cares. I think prison would deter him ever more from leaving their guns out. Prison might deter others from leaving their guns out where kids can get them. Not punishing him says "It is ok to be irresponsible with your guns."
*rolls eyes* Right. It has a few things in common with some other game and that means it ripped off anything and won't offer anything different. What is wrong with you people? Complaining that it shares elements with other games, freaking out that it *dear God* uses 3D!
How old are you anyways? It seems like the average age in games is around 60 and everyone is yelling at the new games to get off their lawn.
So? Any system will have some flaws. It's like consumer electronics...some tiny sub-set of people are going to get something bad, no matter how good the company. These are the vocal minority. I've had no issues ever and neither have my friends. I imagine it is frustrating when it does happen, but it tends to be temporary and people freak out a lot over nothing.
I think it is encouraging how successful Blizzard and Steam's DRM are being perceived. Yeah, you are going to have die hards that will flip out against any DRM...but when they offer the amazing convenience and functionality, people will get on board.
My friend was telling me how steam even can do file integrity checks on any Steam game file. If it detects corruptions, it will just update those files with the non-corrupt file and you are back on your way.

Best. Reference. Ever!
If you don't know what this is, go here. Scroll down to "Thing a Week 2" and click the play button on "Re Your Brains".
As the market shifts to LED bulbs they will get cheaper. So, just wait for the price to drop.
Adapt or die.

Yes, you should me modded up and GP down. What they said was true 6 years ago but not for this gen.
