I love UltraVNC-SC, however since vista (and now including win7) it has become less usable. I believe it has difficulty handling the '3D' desktop, specifically the UAC that causes the screen to darken.
This reminds me of another fantastic free strategy game called Tribal Wars... I have spent so many hours enthralled in its strategy and tactics! (I am in no way affiliated with this game other than an avid player)
SMART has its uses, and a quick and easy check is to use the program 'speedfan' as this has a built in feature to read AND analyze (requires net connection) your HDD's smart information, By no means the be all and end all, but it is the quickest way I know to identify a failing hard drive.
I have evaluated a few different products (I have a retail store) and so far I have been very happy with the DLINK DNS-323 Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with DLINK other than I stock some of their goods
Wireless is really the only hope we have for getting high speed broadband to all our country (7,686,850 sq km), and begrudgingly I must admit that our main carrier (Telstra) is actually doing a very good job.
7.2Mb is available EVERYWHERE, not just next to the tower, not near a big city. Sure, for some people in distant locations they may need a roof mount antennae, but its everywhere.
And they have on their roadmap 14Mb slated for next year, and 28mb for 2010. Now its just a roadmap, but so far they have met their promises with wireless, so I wont disregard them just yet.
anything below 60fps is unacceptable. It may be ok for the average joe, but if your playing online multiplayer, anything below 60fps is putting yourself at a disadvantage. Considering that I dont have the time to invest in being the best, even a minor disadvantage is frustrating.
The funny thing is, it will only take one "story" on a "current affairs" program showing how hardcore porn and such is still easily accessible for the whole policy to come crashing down around the Rudd governments head.
Out of interest where do you get your program scheduling for Australia? This has always been the thorn in my side when attempting to automate with a PVR
Another killer is latency, typically >100ms. Which for a lot applications has little effect, but when compared to ADSL and Cable their latency is unsurpassed. Which for gaming is critical. I wouldn't trade my 8ms ping to my favorite game servers for any amount of mobility.
At my work, we often have computers come in with 'weird' errors, One of the first checks we do once we get to hardware testing is to read the SMART info. A great tool for this in win32 is called "Speed Fan".
Reallocated sectors can have bad data, Power cycle counts can indicate drive electronics failing. There is so much information provided.
SMART is not an authority, but in my opinion is an invaluable source of data about the drive.
How to explain. I guess the best way is to describe the 'story'
My computer store has a workshop. We have computers / printers / anything at all come in to be 'fixed' I would like to be able to enter the 'job' as the customer brings in the computer / whatever, enter the customers contact details, description of the fault(s) etc. (issue tracking?) Whilst working on the fix, i would like to be able to add 'notes' to the 'job' I would also like to be able to track phone calls (CRM?) If the job was virus removal / something we might do again, be able to create a 'knowledgebase' around it and link (wiki?) When customer leaves we can put the 'job number' on their invoice for future reference so when they ring up and say you did THIS!!, we can look it up and remember
One small caveat that I see with all the products mentioned is they all seem to be tailored towards / around software development / ticket / bug tracking. Can anyone suggest software more suited to a workshop? Say allowing tracking of jobs as they arrive/ leave etc? None of the options people list seem to cater or are adaptable for this purpose.
I am not affiliated with BackupAssist (www.backupassist.com) in any capacity other than a customer and have been thrilled with the product.
Simple and easy to use interface, multitude of options, logging, reporting. One of the features that I find most compelling is that the program is essentially a gui wrapper for the Windows Backup program and thus works perfectly with all the server and professional versions of windows seamlessly.
All too often we must make do with microsoft offerings, Backup Assist makes microsoft backup what it SHOULD have been
You would think with all the 'Q&A' they supposedly do that someone would have turned the console to Standard Definition atleast once in the Q&A faze... I have seen both the problems you are mentioning, another is that their is no 'hole' in Tiger Woods golf in SD. I had planned on updating to a HD display in the future however these bugs have definately sped up my plans.
I own an ASUS version of the R580 graphics board ( ENX1900XT ) and its close to 250Watt under full load. It also is an extremely noisy and hot beast. It is not unusual for my card to be reporting 88-90 Degrees Celsius when under load nor is it unusual for the fan that takes up an entire slot to be running at 100% speed.
I can't speak for most people, but I truly appreciate the fact that my card clocks itself down to around 3/4 speed when not in 3D. I would not want it to be under load when my machine is idle.

Money is like air, its only important if you don't have any.

I say you still need to hand in your geek card.
Please point me to what '3d accelerator' that runs on ISA bus? My first Voodoo was a PCI card, even the old S3 Virge (minor 3D acceleration) were PCI.
Its good to see someone practising what they preach! Bravo

They'd just rather pay me and make it go away. And that of course is how I like it!
Here here!
What others dont know is profitable to some.
And I like being profitable.
"The only solution is to burn the place down or kill a few key people, then let them all know why."
If only revolution was not such an outdated ideal.

Whilst Australia's Telstra 3G network is not cheap, it has gotten cheaper just recently (for those not up to date).
You are now looking at
$30 per month for 200mb
$60 per month for 1Gb
$90 per month for 3gb
$130 per month for 10Gb
and for the record, yes I am a Telstra dealer.
Whilst I understand its a limitation of the chipset, 1Gb of RAM and Vista.... ewww. Internal 3G card is a nice touch though.
Out of interest where do you get your program scheduling for Australia? This has always been the thorn in my side when attempting to automate with a PVR
Its easy to identify DVI-I vs DVI-D, the difference is quite apparent if your observant (oh, and have bothered to read a little about the technology)

old games... DOSBOX
I have to agree wholeheartedly.

shortest i could manage
How about putting your demo back online so we can test / see the product!
