I swear, I think I am the only one who uses the free Wifi at the Panera Bread at the location on Troy Rd in Troy, NY. I think the employees in the store now reconize me when I come in as the "guy with the white laptop who orders the Pepperblue Steak sandwich".
The United States Postal Service has a XML API you can use to intergrate into any software or website you write so you can calcuate shipping costs and print labels. If the USPS can do that, I imagine its possible for the IRS to create some sort of XML Tax API.
I'm stil amazed that my GE VHS VCR from 1985 handles the year 2000 and beyond just fine. Everytime I program the time and date on it, it accepts the year fine and calculates the day of the week just fine.
My friends in France are all on cellphones, which means higher rates than calling a landline in France. Its something like 25 cents a minute for the caller, but my friends don't pay a cent for incoming calls (at least as I understand it). I use some prepaid calling cards that have a good rate for French cell phones (15 cents I think it was) and give a decent amount of time to talk.
Seeing this list of books reminds me of the non-logic behind the signs here in Upstate NY that says "Movies encourages teen smoking" and are endorsed by the state (far as I know).
All bank cards far as I know follow the various ISO and ANSI specifications for the magnetic strip, which require encryption of the PIN on the card.
Either the museum was decrypting it somhow (unlikely) or BankBoston at the time wasn't following the standards. Just my 2 cents
I always wondered why Gates thinks certain technologies and products are going to be big. Tablet PCs for example while is a great concept, it is severly limited by todays technology (Poor handwriting reconition, short battery life, etc). And yet, Gates has put his money down on it 3 times (Pen Services for DOS, Pen Services for Windows 95, Windows XP Tablet Edition).
Compare him to Steve Jobs, who has had good sucess since he has returned to Apple (iPod, iTunes, iPod Mini, Airport Express/Extreme and iMac)
Its probably just their philosophies.
Yes, its 169.254.x.x, I couldn't remember the exact subnet off the top of my head.
My source, which is the Apple Developer Docs, which says that UPnP and Rendezvous only work together with automatic interface configuration, when DHCP fails.
Though UPnP uses XML, SOAP, and HTTP while ZeroConf uses DNS-SD records. But just looking again at the Apple Dev Docs, it says Rendezvous supports SOAP...
Universal PlugNPlay is actually based upon a preleminary spec of the ZeroConf protocol. Both of then do support the IPv4 link local address (169.x.x.x) and thats it.
I remember when I on my first internet provider, the defunct Sprynet, they had an tech support IRC chat room staffed with Sprynet techs. It was pretty nice actually.
Yeah, I though the facility in Texas they built just for the SSC was pretty cool. Too bad they only half way finished the tunnel. Its now used to store styrofoam cups as I understand it.

This scam has been suggested in a old issue of the popular phone phreaking site (and former BBS), Phone Losers of America.
If you look at the TSA's list of what is and is not allowed in a passenger aircraft cabin, they say that Toy "Transformer" Robots...
Doesn't PNC own parking garages in Downtown Portland, OR?
Well, I would like to see some sort of Star Trek comedy. Maybe a "Holo-Kirk"?

I remember I said last year "Think the Blaster worm and the Northeast power outages have a connection?"
For some reason, it seems this would be funnier if this was a pratical joke by President Bush...

I MEAN, "they praised it"
One Time when I got thru a Playboy real quick, I decided to see what the articles were about and oddly there was review on the iPod, which it praised.

Well, I live out in the western suburbs in Portland, and there is a house for sale next to me...hmmm....
Don't forget "fibre" as in "Telus installed a fibre line in South BC to provide DSL service to people in the smaller bay towns".
Do they even make the OC-768 cables yet?
As I recall the Fox affilate transmitter is in Mexico, since their registration starts with an "X".
I think you went to the same school as the one I am right now (in Oregon?). I've heard the same about him.
I was thinking the other day, why doesn't Apple hop into the ATM and eVoting market? MacOS X would be perfect to on a iBallot or a iATM!
