What if you have an incurable mental affliction, are rarely happy, and feel consistently over a sustained period that you would rather die.
Should that not then be respected as much as for "unsound of body" reasons?
Are you saying that, say, a placebo appendectomy works just as well as a real one?
I think he is saying that nobody has done placebo-controlled trial of a useful surgery. The ethics committee wouldn't allow it. Conversely, whenever a procedure has been sufficiently doubted to be tested, it has failed that test. Sounds plausible.
But that means 3-4 hours of dull highway driving, when you could be sitting comfortably on the train reading slashdot. If the freeway is faster then the train, can't you get an express bus/coach?
As it is also good at managing to bypass firewalls (as I understand) who knows what else it can do, does, or could be made to do?
"What makes Skype so terrifying, said the FCC, is the fact that no program needs to be exchanged for a new computer to be infected. It can be spread through the existing e-mail systems of the InterNet. Once a computer is infected, one of several things can happen. If the computer contains a hard drive, that will most likely be destroyed. If the program is not stopped, the computer's processor will be placed in an nth-complexity infinite binary loop - which can severely damage the processor if left running that way too long. Unfortunately, most novice computer users will not realize what is happening until it is far too late. "
I like your approach. If every car had a.50cal machine gun on the hood, drivers would be a lot more courteous. And RPGs would be a great equaliser between cars and trucks.
Best of all, the UN should issue every country with a set of nukes. I'll bet that would cut down on invasions of small oil-rich nations.
Not true. Are you saying its impossible to make a lightweight recumbent? An extra few kg means a few % slower climb. But the difference on the flat is much more.
The other problem is that you can't stand on the pedals, but if the gear range is low enough, thats not needed.
Or Adsorption! Those fridges are very common where silent operation is needed: hotel mini-bars, offices. They're just not efficient.
The article is useless without mentioning efficiency. Inefficient alternatives are nothing new.
I thought I was dodging that whole question:-) I'm certainly not here to defend the US health system, but you can't blame it for infant mortality.
Whatever the causes, it means that a simple comparison is unfair and pointless.
However, I just googled this and see that poor hispanic immigrants in the US have quite low infant mortality. So its not so simple.
They can be obtained unlocked in other countries, so some middle-men may step in.
Its about $800 unlocked in Australia, which in the US would be about $699.99 + tax, after rebates, service not included, terms and conditions apply, not valid Alaska or Hawaii.
Well, you should have got the X40 instead. Still can. Same weight at the Eee 1000, similar speed. A used X40 with a memory upgrade and new battery is an interesting comparison the these new "bloated" Eee models.

One day while driving, my five year old managed to unlock and open his car door.
You let your five year old drive?!
Maybe he is smart enough to know that he is wearing a seatbelt, but the toy is not.
Oh, and next time, brake (door flies open a bit) and accelerate (door slams shut).
How do you think they will take ... ... your double ellipsis?
185 miles ... and I can leave at my leisure.

2006? Thats 5-6 years ahead of the HAL-9000.

Um.. it's different because they aren't actually breaking the law.
Nonsense. They could at least be charged with conspiracy, if not attempted whatever.
Remote wakeup was standard in every PC last century!
Check your BIOS for "wake-on-ring" for modems.
This is belated equivalent for broadband.
Recumbents would get slaughtered on the climbs.

at an incredible profit. Not hard to see why apple is worth so much.
Actually, their profit is rather small, compared to their share price. Their P/E ratio is 35, which means if you buy now, you get about 3% profit.
You need a massive increase in profit in future to justify this price. Buyers must be expecting that, or the greater fool.

Excuse me, I think I'll have to puke.
Oh no - Been sick in the mornings lately, have you?
You have the causative chain the wrong way round

Infant mortality rate in the US: 6.3 per 1,000 live births
Infant mortality rate in the UK: 4.9 per 1,000 live births
Unfortunately, this difference is due primarily to race. The figure for black Americans is about double these numbers.
I know a 52 year old woman who had her fertility treatments covered by her insurance plan, and succeeded after her third attempt.
Almost certainly with donor eggs, at that age. This would be considered unethical in many countries.
If you use a wire too thick in diameter all the current is going to go into resistance of the wire.
hmmm... I suggest you stick to car analogies.
2) There are 2 government organisations watching the industry. ... The second a general consumer affairs, ACA.
ACA? A trashy tabloid TV-show is our best hope?

I really do not care as much about price as I do about weight. I lugged this: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:G40 around for a while.

> removed the option for players to solicit sex from prostitutes. Players could of course still kill them,
In movies in Australia, you can have strong sex scenes, or violence, but not together. Thats probably what happened with the game.
> useless without really expensive lenses, so don't expect to see it in any consumer-level cameras.
That has never stopped the consumer camera makers before.
My phone claims 2Mp, but because of the cheap lens, the pictures are crap compared to an old 1Mp camera.
