Its also a matter of management and the drivers.
If the manangement is lose, and the drivers don't care. Then the drivers will skip stops or drive faster, arriving early, leaving early- so that they get their round done faster and go home sooner.

Management needs to understand where the people will be and at what times. Then they need to make more busses available at that time. Stick a GPS on a few random busses, and the drivers will fall in line. Maybe even mount video cameras at major bus stops to monitor number of people.

I'm an insight (5 spd man) driver.

True. The pickup isn't great. 0-60 is about 10-12 seconds depending on what octane gas, how aggrasive you are on shifting, and most importantly, battery charge.

Firstly, driving a hybrid isn't like a "normal" car. You gotta learn how to drive. This means keeping the foot relaxed, not reving the engine for fun, and giving extra long braking distances (use the motor to its fullest. doing so raises mileage AND saves on brake jobs.)

City driving is a sinch. First and 2nd gear are farily short (engine spins up quick). The easiest way to drive city is to be hard on the gas at first, then when you are up to speed (30-40 mph) just relax that foot. The mile will go up about 10 mpg. Be patient and the engine will "lean" out and thats when you hit the magic numbers of 50+.

Once you hit the highway, its not hard to get 60+ mpg. Just keep a steady speed, anticipate traffic ahead, and slow down on up hills, and speed up (gain momentuem) on the down grades. Keep a moderate speed (around 60-70), keep the foot relaxed and the high numbers flow right in.

Lastly, raise the tire preassure a bit. I run all tires at 40 psi. use synthetic oil and buy a K&N cotton-mesh filter. Doing so gives you the added convenience of less maintence and higher mileage.
    Higher tire psi raises mileage.
synthetic oil lowers engine friction, increasing engine life, and requires less (to none) changing.
K&N cotton mesh filters need be cleaned once every 100k miles, and can be reused for up to 10 times. (that is 1 million miles)

So, from an Insight driver, this is my advice to you.

    60mph, 70-80 mpg
    70 mph. 70 mpg

Well welcome to the world of "modern technology". Cell phones are great. I admit it. My mother can find me pratically any place, anywhere. Car breaks down in the middle of the highway, I can call AAA for a tow truck. Etc.

However, cell phones magically don't work when there is no network.

So if you went camping in the mountains, or your on a remote strip of road and there is no cell network, GOOD LUCK!
A ham radio, not being network dependent, you can put out a call for help (and hope that someone is listening on the other end.) Atleast with a HAM, your chances of finding help infinately higher.

Now what else can ham radios do?
-Ham radios have great range. using something like 0.5 watts of power, I can talk to a friend a mile away. (go to same high school) Using 5 watts of power (typical for a hand heald), I can talk to someone else 10-15 miles away without trouble.

Also, I can drive around in a car, talk to someone when I'm driving to and from work without running a fatty cell phone bill.

So yes. I, being a HAM op, have moved to something more modern (cell phone), however, I still prefer to use the ham in the car (saves cell phone mins).

    HOpe this post helps.

Well yes. If this BPL stuff is causing harmful interference, I will not 100% be for the use of it - Partly because I am a ham op myself.

That said, BPL does seem like a promising technology. This way, the electrical utlity can also sell internet, allowing the consumer to benefit from market competition.

For me, I see HAM radio's biggest benefit to society being when disasters strike and nothing works (phone, cell phone, etc) HAM ops are able to get communication going and assist emergency response efforts.

Now, if this BPL is causing HF interference, thats OK! after all, in the event of an emergency and the power is out, NO HF noise caused by BPL!
