    well i don't know but it sounds that the swapinness settings may or maybe not help you a little.

    It's the point of the whole article, which, for once, i read : swapiness may not do what you think it does, that is set it to zero and speed up the desktop

    bah, i don't for sure since i'm not american but what i hear is that it's not really fair nor efficient. Wasn't Clinton supposed to reform it and failed ? It sure seem there's a lot of real poor ppl without any welfare in the us right now. But that would be less than 1% of the whole argument, and i sure hope you know it. Now if "snappy" answers are all you're after, keep going : the wall is straight ahead.

    Coruption does not work in capitalism ? You must be kidding, right ? Enron ? Haliburton ?

    Political instability / oppression does not work in capitalism ? Like in China, nothing short of a capitalist system, which proves, as it has always be, that capitalism works all the better along with dictatorship.

    Monopolies ? Mwaah, three companies fighting over the snack food market are not really competitors, they are the real monopoly.

    The US standard of living has not changed on the average
    i don't know for sure about that but it sure ain't what i hear about this country's healthcare, welfare, 2 day jobs et al ...

    people tend to love capitalism and the market system, right up until it start working against them

    At a point the richest 5% will have to realize that one cannot eat money .

    history proves that growth around the world is a good thing.
    Well, i would like to see these proofs. The last 50 years certainly proove that economical growth is a myth, used to masquerade destruction, misery and inequality. Argentina, anyone ?

    the people receiving out-sourced jobs probably need them more than Americans
    I tend to disagree with this sort of statement : is it better to take everyone deeper in the hole or should we not try to have everyone's standards go up ?

    I'm not sure i want to argue on this, but my point was : the life of jesus is nothing proven.

    Now as wether opinions (as in : jesus is a myth)should be tolerated or not versus murder (as in : snuff movie) me thinks the difference is pretty clear. You are making a bad comparaison.

    And i concerning the parent poster (i have no problem with life of brian yadda yadda) i'll tell you this : it proves correct more often to suspect intolerance on the faithfull. They will say "i have no problem with that, you see : i'm so enlightened" but there's always something waiting like : "oh wait you insult the mother of god with that painting, we will stone you to death !" . I'm not saying that the parent poster is like this, mind you. We're all trolls anyway so ...

    I have a problem with this kind of statement, it is the step just before intolerance. With this one special movie you don't have a problem but what with other works of arts ? What do you do if they clash with your proven and verified facts about Jesus ?

    If something is based of faith alone then all kind of views on that thing can be expressed.

    You've learned a sort of pigeon dialect of Perl

    Actually my perl is perfectly kosher : it is sometimes proof read by someone in the know and i usually stick to what i know is ok.

    I actually apply the TMTOWTDY, and that is a good thing for my company (generating on the fly excel files et al).

    The problem is that if you really want to know the innards, it feels that you must understand all the C code that's behind ...

    What they will do is absorb the basics of the language from examples they've seen an write a basic subset

    This is very interessting since it's exactly what i do !

    I consider myself a fairly poor coder, but still Perl helps me to do a lot of things very fast, and to a point i can say it pays a lot of my bills ! I could do most of this in VB but Perl is fun and intuitive.

    Some times I need an new feature and Perl will then help me learn something new, thus making my coding skills a little better.

    I realize that Perl is a good glue but not very "industrial". It's fun and all but when i look at the Rexx coder across the room, i wonder if Perl will not eventually end like Rexx, something mostly useless & readable only to old timers... And all the Perl 6 fuss with smart ass names (apocalypse, exegesis, jeez ...) isn't going to make me feel more confident about it !!

    Wait & see ...

    It's a good thing to read a few "homepages" when you're feeling down. It'll make you realize that some other people really don't have a life and that your situation isn't that bad after all !
