And now the flight crew has no excuse for not knowing about Lil' Timmy and every other brat that bounces up and down and screws for 4 straight hours. Not that I think they'll care any more or less. Just maybe they'll eject one or two as "suspected terrorists" every now and then.
They may as well add in some massage coils and heat strips to the seats when they upgrade. No fair being partison to the terrorists and not giving the honest flyers something at the same time.
What Wal-Mart appears to do, is make choices for us. No "bad" movies, no "bad" games, no "bad" magazines... do you want a business making this decision for you?
Businesses make decisions for you ALL THE TIME! If they didn't, you'd have stores much bigger than Walmart.
A couple of years ago, grocery stores in the South (including Walmart) stopped carrying Maurice's Barbeque Sauce because of Maurice Bessinger's rabid stance on the Confederate Flag (he's based in SC) and the fact that he is pretty much an open racist (he denies it but it's obvious to anyone who's ever read one of his press releases or been into one of his restaurants). The point: Is it bad that Walmart and other groceriers decided to stop supporting that racist punk? I doubt you'd argue with that. But you will argue when they make other decisions for you; especially those concerning the stuff you'd like to buy. Businesses make decisions based on what they think is the best practice for their public image. Disney does the same. And the SBC boycotts them for it. That is the SBC's decision. I don't agree with it but it's their right. And it's your right to boycott Walmart if you'd like. But don't gripe about it not being fair for them to make decisions on what to carry and how to market it. There are PLENTY of other places to acquire what you seek and Walmart leaves those niche markets alone to thrive.
Capitalism + Bill of Rights = Great Liberty.
P.S. This isn't meant to be OT or Trollish or Flamebait. I'm only commenting on Walmart's marketing practice as they relate to DVD selection. Mod accordingly.
REALLY OT: Here's an idea: If you don't like the mod system, get off slashdot. There are plenty of other forums for you to spill your quite obscene ramblings and bitterness. What you consider flamebait and what the rest of the mod community considers flamebait may indeed be different but you cannot alter it and they have made their decision. Do not bemoan them. It only makes you further look like a very bitter man. And I think your karma proves that, huh?
Somebody needs to go back to the faq and read the definition of flamebait. You fit it to a T. As the mods with more sense than you have already pointed out.
Walmart poses the same kind of question as Microsoft not so many years ago. Are they pushing innovation or are they simply doing whatever they can to be a bigger and more profitable company for their shareholders? I think we can guess which is more likely. Money and power obscure all concerns about their consumers' privacy. Walmart, on the other hand, does do much to keep its consumers happy. The Maxim discontinuation and the obscuring of women's magazines covers is in response to the family atmosphere that they seek to promote. It is not, as some flame-baiters maintain, an attempt to be repressive and just part of the Bible-belt mentality. They are reacting to their own market research that shows that most families (which it is families that shop at Walmart mostly, not hip 16 year olds who'd rather be at Abercrombie) would rather those things not be visible to their young children. Thus Walmart's policies put them in better light with the communities they overtake. If the communities don't want to have RFID tags and they make that known to Walmart, I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Walmart retracted this idea. Walmart knows very well that its money comes not from streamlined inventory but from the happy families that shop there.
Yeah, I'm all for those liberterian ideals as well but the problem is that parents usually have no freakin' clue what their kids drink whether it be V8, Jack Daniels, PBR, sodium penathal, or motor oil. 'Cause Lord knows I've had my share. And some of it was ice cold on a hot, sunny day, too!
...we were all wanted to drink it because we can't in the states.
Does anyone else find it odd, ironic, and/or disturbing that we're giving beer-drinking advice to a minor?
Good, me neither. So thanks, Dad, for all your solid advice so long ago; and now it's my turn to pass along the kindness: Drink Killians Irish Red, my lad. Ice Cold (Screw fancy, geek add-ons... chug it!). You'll never go wrong again.
Alright, I know this is completely OT, but Rush's ratings are far from "in the toilet." He's still solidly number one in radio ratings, far above Howard Stern. Just had to correct that piece of ignorance. Sorry. Let's go back to ranting about Apple, now.......
Hope I never have those same kind of moral convictions creep up on me. That must suck. Plus, I can't imagine all the sleep I'd lose over this suite of software sitting in my Dock (**I'm lying about that... just a joke... really**).
The deal might be over for now but I'm sure some teachers somewhere have a copy lying around that they've never installed. Plus, I imagine that by this fall, they'll renew the deal for Panther, 10.3.
Know a teacher? Scam a copy from their available outlet. Is that pirating if they have a free copy waiting for them but they aren't going to use it? I don't think so. But then again, I got 10.2 on my TiBook, so I don't have to concern myself with such things.
He meant an Apple ROM. New machines (OS X compatible) use what they call a "New World ROM." The information contained in them lets them boot into Mac OS X. Similar to a BIOS yet different. The OpenFirmware is contained in the ROM.
I think that if the folks behind the Matrix movies read what you just called it ("philisophical"), they'd laugh their ass off at you. It's no more philisophical than philosophical or even philasophical. It's entertainment and it only succeeds at that. It's not meant for philosophy or even high art. It's meant to entertain and if it does that (plus bring in the money to prove it), it's made its creators very happy indeed. Meanwhile, you need to show me a "philisophical" movie.
The package would be marked accordingly and if you ignore those warnings, you probably deserve to lose your $$$. It's like opening a package of raw meat just to take a look when you have no intention of cooking it for a few days. You just don't do it. That simple.
Divx did NOT fail for this same reason. Divx failed because you needed a specific player for them and the format was confusing to customers. CircuitCity was the only major retailer of Divx as I recall. In other words, it was proprietory (SIC b/c I don't care right now).

Seriously. I filled out that online form when i was at another address and I dont know if the forwarding is still in effect. Oh well.

Whoever made the decision to hire them was drugged or something...
I think we can all now assume that it was Jerry Lee Lewis.
Oh, wait. Where was Michael Moore in that list?
And I must be hungover to keep replying to you.

There are so many signs in this post that scream "detox time."

"existence"
Have I made my point yet?
Maybe my job is copy editting. Every think of that? It pays well, you know.
if someone in here buys a $1500 mac and puts linux on it, I'm gonna find you and beat you to death with a clue stick.
How about somebody beat you to death with a preview stick or a spell-check stick?

Well, dam, I guess it will collapse if they didn't use any nuts to hold it together...

I'm sure he meant that it won't play SVCD's in addition to VCD's and standard DVD's.
