If your friend got drunk after two heinekens, he needs to stay on the kiddie arcade games and away from the bar. Seriously. It's bad enough that he's drinking yuppie beer. It's just tragic that he gets drunk off a couple and then heads for the "computer dance floor."

Did he marry a pseudo-feminist with no backbone and so little moral character that she'd stay with her lying, cheating husband just for the sake of her own career? Oh, and has your dad aligned himself with the Jewish and African-American community for the sole purpose of career advancement himself?

Bingo. Bragging about being a journalist is like bragging about penis size -- your own view of it is typically exagerated and the result of an over-inflated ego. Personally, I think he'd get better accolades if he just fessed up to being a self-serving, bed-wetting, backboneless Socialist. But that's just me.

Going back to the original article, it's easy to see that this mentality is common among "techies." They all see a conservative gov't as hostile to them. "Techie" may as well be synonymous with "egotistical, over-educated liberal." All I really ask is that Slashdot stop putting their own political slant on the articles. The "journalist" here in this thread should at least be able to admit his own liberal slant and recognize the slant of the parent article as well. It's pretty darn obvious.

Everybody's a critic but no one is a problem solver. When you can construct a thesis on how to fix the "problems," then you can bitch and whine about the people in office right now. And don't give me any of that "I don't know what's the right thing to do, but I know it when I see it" bullcrap, either. I hope you do leave very soon. Because this country needs less complainers and more workers. You try working for the federal government for a few weeks and then you'll understand much better the nature of the beast. If you really think all the problems center around one man, you're just as naive as every other typical journalist. I'm not trying to flame you, buddy. Just saying that you can run north or south for all I care because I judge a man's character not by his critiques but by his spirit. I don't remember Franklin, Washington, or Davis running to Canada when the British government was irritating them. And on that note, I propose that you don't know history one bit. Never in our nation's history have heroes run away and abandoned their homeland. Only the cowards.

Secondly, the DMCA issue is nonsequintor when it comes to the issue of Apple Computer, Inc. The parent post is arguing about Apple and how the same tactics (government-wise) should be used against them. As someone else pointed out, it's "apples to oranges." Apple deserves absolutely no government intervention. There is no precident and neither should there be. They are playing fair.

  13. Re:Let's do it with Apple! on North Carolina Fights Back Against Lexmark · · Score: 1
There is no reason on earth for this except to please a small group of insignificant consumers. Quite simply, it is unfair to Apple for the government to FORCE them to do so or for you anyone to suggest this idea. They are not monopolistic nor are they practicing non-competitive practices which harm the consumer. It is their RIGHT to control their product and how it is used. Otherwise, they'd be a dead company. This is America and thus it is a free market society. To tell them to do otherwise with their product is communistic. I'm sick of people who think the government should interfere in all these market situations. If Lexmark wants to act the way they are with regards to the DMCA, they will shoot themselves in the foot -- they don't need the government to pull the trigger. Maybe Apple will do the same. But we really need to lay off the idea of such heavy-handed government intervention in a free market society. Very rarely should we seek government intervention. Standard Oil, Ma' Bell, Microsoft -- these are issues for the feds. I think we, as consumers, can take care of Lexmark just fine, thank you. Why? Because we still have other options. Someone mentioned Epson. Good point! And with regards to Apple? Yeah, you still have plenty of other options to choose from. Don't whine about that when there's gadzooks of other manufacturers of alternate platforms and even enough PPC motherboards to statisfy. You do not have to buy OSX if you want a LinuxPPC box.

Apple made it's claims based on the DUAL 2ghz model. In the benchmarks this guy uses to show that it's not the fastest, it is stated that the second processor is disabled. Well, of course, that would injure their claims! As someone else has already pointed out, hyperthreading on the P4 makes it act as a dual processor so if you want to compare single processor to single processor, disable the hyperthreading on the P4 as well as the second processor on the G5. And it's really not surprising to me that a single processor G5 at 2ghz is slower than a P4 at 3ghz. Isn't that they way it should be? I'm just glad that it seems to hold good up against it at all where as the G4 would honestly be blown away by it. Let's all just admit that IBM has definitely put their best foot forward. I'm sure it won't be long before we'll see true 4ghz G5's compared to 4ghz P4's.

Finally, I'm sure the real world testing, once available, will be of more interest to most people than any of these silly lab tests.
