We already have a massive trash problem on our hands. What's new?

Why not just make edible DVD discs? Then, even if the movie sucks, at least I'd have a nice, chocolatey snack to appease my bitter rage.

It won't expire until you open the sealed packaging. So just don't open the thing until you're ready to watch it. You don't have 48 hours from when you buy it -- you have 48 hours from when you break the packaging open. If you RTFA, you'll see that the concept works b/c the chemical coating begins to degrade once oxygen hits it.

I wonder what the packaging will look like? It should be absolutely minimal to keep costs down. If costs is as cheap or cheaper than rentals and/or PPV, this should work well.

Seriously, I get your arguments concerning ergonomics. I guess as one who's not had the "hand meltdown" you speak of, it's harder for that concern to immediately jump to my mind. I only hope that it never has to. Heck, I might consider trying Dvorak if it didn't mean remapping my company-issued PBG4.

You missed the arguments about vi and the majority of all other keyboards. You'll do your children a disservice by "raising" them on Dvorak. Every public terminal will be QWERTY, plain and simple.

And last time I checked, no child taught QWERTY was in any way inferior or held back. And I've never seen a report of someone succeeding in life because they knew Dvorak and their peers did not. Reality is this: Keyboard layouts are the least of our problems.

    I bet you're a Libertarian, too.

In Soviet Russia, you do not learn Dvorak, Dvorak learns you.

Seriously, VoD is nice as an alternative to the video rental store but look how DVD sales have sky-rocketed in a few years in comparison to VHS sales over 2 decades of trying. People want to have high-quality libraries of movies that they can hold on to and claim as their own. And they definitely don't want to have to pay for them more than once.

So far, the 14.1" iBook looks like the best bargain to me but he's a Windows guy by nature. And Centrinos are on the high end of the price tag. Suggestions? Puhlease! :o)

That's a little uninformed. This is AAC. 128kbps in AAC is equal to 256kbps in MP3 encoding.

And this does not cost the same or more as an album. It is $9.99 per album regardless of how many tracks it has. You find me one record store where you can buy any new, decent album for $9.99 (save the bargain bin). How the crap is even $.99/song too expensive when you have to pay nearly $4.00 just for a CD single in a store? The logic in this argument just ain't there.

The new iPods still come with a firewire cable that has, on one end, an iPod connector, and on the other end, a firewire connection. So, yes, you can still use it as a FireWire portable harddrive. The dock is for your home use so you dont have to worry about reaching around to always plug in a cable. Keep the dock at home and take the connector cable with you on the road.

Quantum physics works well, also, for a comparison. You can call psychohistory a lost cause all you want but I'm glad men like Newton, Carnot, Einstein, Young, Bohr, Planck, Heisenberg, Watson, Crick, Hawking, and Asimov don't think in terms of "lost causes." Not everything is cut and dry and can be proved as "babble" because the world strikes you as utterly chaotic. The chaos sometimes even holds the answers to its own problems.

Finally, I believe it is men like Asimov that push determined people onward and upward to stretch the possibilities and absolutely amaze people like yourself who claim that some things are a "lost cause."

If you want something done on that level, don't leave it up to business to do it on their own. There will never be one standard and instead, you'll just end up with absolute chaos. It takes a community of people committed to real change to ban together to make something like this happen. And I'm all for that.

Who's to say that a redesign would take away? When people banned together to "redesign" the way the OS worked and was controlled, we got Linux. Now is that such a bad thing?
