Now that Abrams is going to direct episode 7 my first take was these several idea's.... it's going to be a prequel of prequels before even episode 1 where
- We see how Amidala was born and how her parents somehow have magical adventures with Gungans and Disney like characters on Naboo
- We see how Shmi Skywalker ended up getting a bunch of medichloreans up her snatch and how Ani was born... Medichlorean sex anyone but without a lightsaber rod just the force???
- Somehow Obi wans and Qui gons parents are involved also in this story again with Disney like characters
- A character similiar to nero but in a star wars universe goes back in time from somewhere just after episode six to exact revenge and we have an alternate star wars universe with all the same characters but... oh my god.. suddenly they all look different and much younger and they have even crappier technology then the same ships in the original movie did. I mean cmon on 2009 Star trek had what looked like nuclear technology to power a warp drive? o_O
- In short it'll be a reboot of star wars just like the horrible reboot of star trek with a storyline that will make you cringe...
This is general advice to all men that unless your girlfriend / wife was a hardcore or even semi-hardcore gamer like you to begin with and likes to play FPS or MMORPGS or games like that then they are probably not interested no matter how much you try. I had tried to get my girlfriend into World of Warcraft in early 2011 and all she did was make a gnome mage, run around the starting zone, killing random enemies until she eventually managed to get herself killed several times.
Not once did she bother to actually follow the tutorials blizzard put in that even practically hand hold you to do quests, and how to equip and use gear and your class skills, never mind even leaving the starting zone to go to the next area to quest further.
Watching her run around with no gear at level 10 getting killed over and over just made me shake my head... and im 34 years old at the time, she was 37 and I have six level 85 characters, playing WoW since 2006 and raiding 5 days a week at the time.
At least I got the flyable rocket mount out of it from her account. And you know what kind of games she plays now? Very silly (IMHO) games like Fashion Story and Restaurant Story on her android phone. It just goes to show most women would rather play stupid games like that on a phone instead of actual games that require more thought and reflexes.
"You know the type; the ones who'll change the background color if they think it'll eke out a few more players, or the ones who'll scrap interesting game mechanics in favor of making the game more easily understandable to a broader market. Naturally, this leads to homogenization and boring games."
I would daresay interesting game mechanics were scrapped starting when the Wrath of the Lich King expansion came out, then Cataclysm for sure which really made it easier, and now Mists of Pandaria which have made it so easy now to the point that it's boring and more easily understandable to the broader market.
Thus, ensuring more morons who couldn't understand an MMO like WoW back in 2007 when Burning Crusade was popular and I felt was the pinnacle of that game with the mechanics it had at the time, are now playing Mists of Pandaria and further destroying what maturity the community had from 2004-2007 in that game compared to the community at large now. It's why I took a break from the game in October and may look at it again later this year with a newer computer the game just got dumbed down way too much to the point everything is practically handed to you now, you don't have to work for it like in Burning Crusade.
Also, certainly Blizzard becoming a part of Activision did not help matters much either as I am sure that has been whats prompting the "dumbing down" of WoW the last five years and a *LOT* of players leaving.
When I read this submission the first thing that came to my mind was "Hey it's the 21st century version of burning knowledge and media!" in comparison to how books were burned in germany in the 20th century when hitler was in power. And it may not even stop at books and media this time around it may go a lot further.
I can not feel sorry for the parents at all, period. How hard would it have been for them to turn the device on and see what if any personal data was on it and then delete it all? Friends of mine have bought used phones over the years and they would occasionally have a device full of personal family photos, videos, apps, you name it.
If you are referring to the Ghostrank option in the plugin it can be disabled so they don't track you. And i'd rather run Ghostery then DNT Plus which is now renamed to Do not track me which seems to be so much blatant eye candy then anything else.
I forgot to ad in my previous post too bad no one has come up with a way yet to have an adblock plus for TV signals to effectivly remove the video and audio of commercials.:P
What about audio advertisements on the Internets, such as on Hulu (which specifically seems to lengthen its ad breaks every few months)?
If the ads work like they do on youtube then a really good ad blocker like Adblock Plus with firefox would effectivly kill all of the ads.
What about a ban on mandatory warnings and previews on digital media disks for which we pay?
Easy solution to that is to rip the DVD with software like AnyDVD or similiar that removes all that garbage too so you aren't forced to watch 20 minutes of annoyingly loud trailers that likely you have no interest in.
What about annoying HTML and Flash flyover ads on web pages?
Again Adblock Plus with firefox and if you don't want those companies tracking you as well Noscript along with Ghostery (or Do Not Track Plus) works great too. There's even Adblock plus now for Android phones which does help a lot to kill web ads too and help conserve battery life.
Honestly I feel it's not a waste. A lot of the older keyboards in the 80's were made to be a hell of a lot more durable then the flimsy plastic crap you buy now. I fondly remember my *old* IBM keyboard from the mid 80's that was very heavy but man oh man did it sound beautiful with the clicking noises it made and it felt great to type with it.
"A lot of coding tuition aimed at young people tends to revolve around games," he said. "But that can disengage some young people. Many of them, particularly girls, just aren't interested in gaming."
Girl's not interested in gaming? Ok then try telling that to all the young and old women gamer's I've met in person and talked to on Ventrillo over the year's playing games such as World of Warcraft, Team Fortress Classic, and Counter-Strike 1.6 (and earlier) and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2.
Especially World of Warcraft where it seem's more often then not the traditional female roles come into play. You more often see females for example playing healing classes or dps classes before tank classes especially more often then not with bf/gf or husband/wife couples where the man is a tank and the woman is playing the healing role.
Meant to say VOIP phone service and also meant to add that man oh man do they ever try to shove sasktel down your throat when we moved in... if you didn't know about Access Communications which competes with them in this province especially if you moved in from out of province or from a different country you'd probably get suckered into Sasktel and their crown corporation garbage.
I found out last year when me and my girlfriend moved into this apartment together that Sasktel (DSL internet provider for Saskatchewan Canada) apparantly also uses 2wire Routers/gateways and this one was literally screwed into the wall with a mounting bracket. Also disturbing was just doing a quick google search and sure enough in under 30 seconds I found default passwords for 2wire routers/gateways... what a suprise.
As I have been an Access Communications customer for years with a cable modem and my own router currently using a Linksys WRT400N and before that a Linksys WRT54GS that I donated to my sister a couple years ago I basically said screw sasktel called up Access and they setup my VOIP phone server and internet access.
Funny thing is you use any wi-fi device to look for routers nearby and you see about 20-25 2wire(3 digit number here) routers then my router that I named "2 Girls 1 Router" just to be different and hopefully give some people a laugh.:)
I have a gut feeling this is going to suck hardcore. Watch as Disney ignores a TON of novels since the late 80's all through the 90's and into the 21st century that dealt with han and luke and leia, the thrawn trilogy, han and leia having kids, and all the other novels since then that have tied together even into today and can pretty much can be considered official as to what happened to all the major star wars characters even 60+ years after Return of the Jedi. This movie will end up being too f-ing childish and bright and puke disgusting... give me a darker and more realistic movie or hell even make a movie based off the Yuuzhan Vong War that made the Empire look like Saints.
In the last decade I was using Invision forum software not only because it was a very nice alternative to vbulletin and phpBB but it also seemed quite popular as well. They do have a demo for the Community Suite here - http://www.invisionpower.com/demo/ if you want to try it out.
I live here in regina saskatchewan (Canada) and the most scary thing is on pretty much every computer screen you see that has kicked in with a screensaver in the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region which is hospitals clinics offices etc attached to them they are all running Windows XP.
I find that kind of scary considering its hospital and patient information being accessed by an eleven year old operating system that likely has not been fully updated and will still be in use after 2014.
This tweaked my interest with the mention of no more Unity 2D? I used to have an old version of Ubuntu on my desktop (10.04) then after several upgrades to 12.04 that eventually screwed up the kernel along with startup/shutdown issues I had to switch to Unity 2D for some sanity. Replacing it now with some kind of software rasterizer seems to me like such a kludge fix in my mind designed to piss off pepole even more and force them to switch to an alternative even quicker.
At any rate I've been using Linux Mint 13 KDE tweaked on my desktop and love it and have Kubuntu 12.04 on my girlfriends laptop and currently using Xubuntu 12.04 on this old clunker of a laptop (Dell Inspiron 1300) from 2006. Point is I love KDE and its stable on Mint (apparantly even more stable then Kubuntu) and heck even XFCE is a lot more usuable on an old laptop.
Old habits die hard when you're like me and 34 yrs old and using computers since the early 80's... Unity just offends me.:P
Seriousely what the hell? Is Canonical that desperate for money they have to force ads on us in the operating system itself? I've been using Ubuntu (and windows only to play World of Warcraft) pretty much since it first came out both on my desktop and Kubuntu on my girlfriends laptop. If both of us had to put up with ads you can guarantee i'd be finding out pretty damn quick how to either block the ads via opendns and or a hack of some sort to disable this garbage or stop using it altogether.
I've been blocking all ads and popups while browsing as well over the years (Proxomitron and later Adblock plus with various filter lists in firefox) and i'll be damned to see annoying, obnoxious, and data mined ads forced down my throat on the desktop.
Wait.... it sounds like Jurassic Park all over again! Along with computers that have a GUI where a young girl will say "It's a UNIX system! I know this!"
It's rabid hate because it almost makes me feel like i'm using an OS made by microsoft partnered with fisher price and the end result is moving around colored blocks to get at what you need therby making you feel like a three year old.

This is exactly what happened to WoW
"You know the type; the ones who'll change the background color if they think it'll eke out a few more players, or the ones who'll scrap interesting game mechanics in favor of making the game more easily understandable to a broader market. Naturally, this leads to homogenization and boring games."

In two years from now when it is upgraded and running at maximum levels will anyone think to warn Gordan Freeman??? :)

Ghostery's owned by an advertiser (Evidon) + tracks you by default. AdBlock allows ads by default too since it seems they also "souled out" http://news.slashdot.org/story/11/12/12/2213233/adblock-plus-to-offer-acceptable-ads-option
If you are referring to the Ghostrank option in the plugin it can be disabled so they don't track you. And i'd rather run Ghostery then DNT Plus which is now renamed to Do not track me which seems to be so much blatant eye candy then anything else.

Like my subject says after reading this
"A lot of coding tuition aimed at young people tends to revolve around games," he said. "But that can disengage some young people. Many of them, particularly girls, just aren't interested in gaming."

Ahhh thank you very much! I was about to mention that i was suprised no one else knew about Waterfox. :P
I have to agree with what AC said though. There's way more dishonest aka "douche" people as you put it then real honest people living in this world.

You sir are a genius and you think like me how the movie might end up being like! Where oh where are my mod points damnit! :P
I have a gut feeling this is going to suck hardcore. Sloppy seconds for the win?

Blizzard is not going to be happy the glider bot is back.
OH if only I had mod points! You have made my day sir! :D
It's rabid hate because it almost makes me feel like i'm using an OS made by microsoft partnered with fisher price and the end result is moving around colored blocks to get at what you need therby making you feel like a three year old.
