Seagate Barracudas and Samsung Spinpoints both use fluid bearings, and are very quiet. I've gone a step further and set my drive on some sorbothane pads to absorb seek vibrations. I can't hear my hard drive at all unless the room is very quiet and I'm listening for it.
The motherboard actually DOESNT kernal panic now like it used to because I had a 400mhz G4 prossesor overclocked to 600mhz. Dont ask me why, I DONT KNOW.
Aluminum cases suck for sound damping. It's true that an aluminum case of the same mass as a steel case would damp sound better, but most aluminum cases are built to be lighter, hence less massive, hence less intertia and less ability to damp sound waves.
I'm one of the suckers that actually paid for the driver. The connection hangs after about five minutes. Fifteen freakin' dollars for a modem driver that doesn't work.
Firewire and sbp2 support is completely broken. Ironically this has, I believe, more from "experimental" in 2.4 to a normal feature, yet it worked fine before and now doesn't work at all (the linux1394 forums forums reflect that I am not alone in this). Trying to copy data to sbp2 drives segfaults, hangs, and worse.
I was going to ask if anyone else had this problem. 2.6.2 works fine for me, but.3 and.4 wore out my reset button.
I have an 8x0 in my Vaio laptop. The sound has an occaisonal faint burst of static and the ACPI skipping problem someone else mentioned. I have to use the OSS driver and (ugh) arts.
My power supply easily outclasses my case fans, cpu fan, and hard drive put together. Of course, that's because all of my fans are undervolted Panaflo L1As and my hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda IV mounted with silicone washers. That said, even my power supply is inaudible if there is any significant background noise in the room. Of course, I"m still thinking of replacing the power supply fan with an Evercool. The quest for silence starts to make one a bit obsessive.
Not to be pedantic, but JOHN EDWARDS is the democratic senator from North Carolina who's running for president. JOHN EDWARD is the guy who claims he talks to dead people.
You know, this thread is about 10 times more confusing than the whole meters-to-inches thing.
Hey, 10 times, that's metric!

It's the caffeine.
I think you need a surgence before you can have a resurgence.
Legal in Russia. It's not clear that they have the legal right to distribute music in the US.
Hey! That's my car!

When the only tool you own is a 580-tonne Tunnel Boring Machine, dude, you have no problems.

No problems with my Soundblaster Live, though.

This is Slashdot, not some lesbian shoe fetish site!
It's also what would shield the depths from radiation from a small exploded nuclear probe.
Yeah, but the A-Team is still awesome.
The Dukes of Hazzard, though. Wow, I feel shame for ever liking that show.
And you got to run before you blast across the Alkali Flats in a jet-powered, monkey-navigated...
but I do know of at least one employee who's received death threats. I'd be very surprised if Daryl hasn't.
I went to the site once to download the player. I clicked on the download link. The first thing they wanted was my email address.
Meet the new boss...
I think it was that a DVD is a really long string of bytes and that analogy was a really long string of words and... wait...
To piss you off.

John Edwards = Presidential candidate and Senator from North Carolina
John Edward = Hack who claims to talk to dead people
</pedantic>
How did you gain that 1"?
Ever see Gattaca?
Honey pots and poo. Slashdot's turning into a really iffy porn site.
No broadcaster is stupid enough to make any broadcast technology unviewable on existing TV sets.
Then explain Joe Millionaire.
