I find this very fascinating. In fact , since the US still has the capital punishment in effect, why don't you fry their asses in case the poison does not work or it is "libDePoison"'d?
And naturally, the company will be legally covered with a warning label on the DVD that would say something like "Infidels risk mutilation"
    Very nice idea indeed.

It would not be good for anyone. Not just Americans. I am very afraid of the twisted logic working on the minds of many American officials. They think that they can enforce anything they want to everybody else , just because they have a bigger army. Things i am afraid are not that simple. EU will not stand silent and be told that can not go into space (or any other bullying US may come up with). The possibility of a future conflict arises quickly.
I would love to argue about how the size an army MANY times in history has proven to be irrelevant, but considering that both US and EU are "nuclear enabled" (TM), it is made clear that none can win is such a case.
I hust hope that this "we are the ones" mentality stops before it is too late.
    Thank you.

  8. I just love the Greek phone company. on Just In Case 3G Isn't Speedy Enough · · Score: 2, Insightful
Please don't be a liar ;). We DO have dialup. It's just that when your line is on PCM (if you don't know what it is , consider yourself lucky) and you complain about not being able to connect to the Internet, you are told that:
"all you 'rich' assholes want Internet. You are LUCKY to have a phone! Now get out!"
Nice? And then the chief technician (of a 200.000 people area in Athens) comes and tries to be a 'techie' , only to make you understand that his knowledge of modems is stuck to the ones seen in 'Wargames' (seriously).
But we have ISDN you might say... well.. when the 2 technicians came to my house to do the installation, i was told that the 'idiot' electrical engineer had made it impossible for the line to work. I told them to leave the Network Terminal device and get out, then i installed it myself. (And i am not a techie).

But they are not just ignorant idiots, they are also cheating bastards. When the phone company (OTE) started selling special low rate numbers for Internet connectivity (EPAK) they only sold to their subsidiary (OTENET) and not to other ISPs. All they paid was a 150000 Euro's fine (small money to what they gained. Customers of OTENET paid less money on they phone accounts than other ISP's).

The stories i can tell you about the phone company in Greece would make most slashdoters cry in agony with the prospect of ever coming to the banana country.. err.. Greece.

But! to be fair, the Mobile phone infrastructure is actually quite good!. 3G is coming, and GPRS (2,5G) has been here for years.

Actually this is done in Greece (at leat when i was a student trying for University). You were tested in essay (about 4-5 pages hand-written) and then 2 graders would read and grade your paper and you would get the mean. IF their grades differed by a few point (2-3 in a scale of 0-20) then a third grader yould examine your paper. Yes it is time-consuming and expensive but the worst thing is that it was the ONLY way to get into higher education. (It has changed since).

Sad but true. Advances in technology actually have a negative impact on many aspects of gaming. One of which is controls. In my opinion the point-and-click interface was a disaster for adventure games. Even though there were remarkable such games (the SCUMM engine was decent) they couldn't compare to legends such as Hero Quest , Space Quest or Loom. These games were more demanding of your imagination because you could not aproach the game with the "try everything aproach" like you can in more modern games.

I am still playing these games. In fact i recently finished Hero Quest 2 again. (Well with the help of a certain Hex editor, given that i had no internet were i was).

  17. Re:Protestors on Web Site Hacks Rise as War Rages in Iraq · · Score: 1

Glad to see the REAL reason for WAR. OIL. France and Germany have Contracts with Saddam for significant percentages of oil , while the US have NOTHING!. Saddam is indeed a dictator but is not the only nor worst dictator out there. Why aren't the United states after others? As for weapons of mass destruction, well the inspectors could not find them , and so far they have not been used , so it is safe to assume the he does not have any. Still, the US govmt persists that he does. Concerning the terrorist connections of Saddam, well no proof has been found and furthermore Iraq NEVER had any link to terrorism. So the terrorist characteristic is attributed the Saddam just to make the "pill go down sweeter" for the US citizens.
I can't see ANY of US arguments concerning this war as real. Oil and geopolitical interests led the US into such a decision. (IF they wanted to have a firm grasp in the area, who would they target?)
The most important aspect of this war , however, is the US decision for unilateral action disregarding the importance of the UN. Anyone whith a small background in history (highscool stuff) would know WHY the UN was created and what it tried to avoid. Now that the UN has been "destroyed" , what is the future for relations between nations? Can anyone just take military action now? Society of Nations (i am translating from Greek so i may have the name wrong) was considered weak and was replaced by the UN. The reason for the replacement was that "Society of Nations" failed with Hitler and WWII. Being from Greece and looking at things from the non-US perspective i can say that the the US , by breaking International Law have implicitly declared that they are no longer bound by such Law s and can undertake action according to their heart's desire.
And a last observation that has me baffled. The people that travel thousands of miles to protect democracy are the same ones that won't even cross the street in order to vote. Sound's ironic doesn't it?
