  1. Hacks stopped working... on New PSP Firmware with Built-In Web Browser · · Score: 3, Insightful

I'd say it would be pretty difficult for Sony not to break all the hacks.. Usually hacks rely on bytecode being in a certain location in memory, so for a release that is such a big upgrade, I'd say Sony didn't deliberately break the hacks... they just don't work any more.

  2. Mobile phone visualiser?? Not!! on First Picture of new Motorola iTunes Phone? · · Score: 1

Yes indeedy. Burn through your mobile phone battery power by running a visualiser whilst playing songs? I think not. The iPod doesn't have a visualiser, why would the phone? iTunes has the visualiser. They'd be doing pretty well to port the visuliser to the phone!! The visualiser part at least must be fake.

  5. I'm sure Apple has this sussed. on Sony to Make an "iTunes for Movies" · · Score: 1

Jobs is right when he says that nobody wants to watch movies on a handheld device.

Of course there will be an iTunes for movies - the software will be Apple released, and the primary client will not be a handheld device, but instead the Mac Mini - I hear its max screen resolution is far greater than normal, and it will be like a set top box for plugging into a TV or cinema display.

Nobody wants to watch movies on handhelds, although remember the Mac mini has the interface on top for transferring movies to one after downloading (the internal circuit board that has been identified as the beginning of an iPod dock.)

iTunes Party Shuffle does not appear to be entirely random... My one never picks songs that have never been played - the play count must be at least 1 to get onto the party shuffle - I'm sure there are other criteria too.

I personally think that the source of all human illness is basically the body forgetting how to maintain itself... critical synapses failing. But what would I know?

Thats all it ever intended to do.

You must realise that gMail could stop all spam so you would never see it (they would just delete it rather than putting it in the spam folder) but they elect to give you the opportunity to view it just in case their detection algorithm messes up. So whats the problem - just don't visit the spam folder.

If you have received actual spam in your inbox folder, not your spam one then you might have something to complain about.

I use iTunes for listening to music. Its all I use it for (syncing with my iPod is secondary - the end goal is still to listen to music). So if the sound is broken what is the point? I'm sure that technically it is a fine achievement but those statements say it all about the reasons widespread adoption of linux isn't taking place.

Spreading FUD menas spreading Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt about a given product. Casting doubt on a product like this without backing it up is hardly justified, particularly in a release as important as Windows Firewall.

  20. That Flexbeta article is just spreading FUD. on How Secure is Windows Firewall? · · Score: 4, Insightful

Save your time - don't bother. It adds absolutely nothing to the body of knowledge. It reports that it blocks all the ports very adequately. It also reports that it doesn't block outgoing connections from your computer! Really? Well that has been common knowledge for the last year. Windows Firewall only blocks incoming connections. This doesn't mean it is less than adequate. It does point out that Windows responds when certain standard port connections are attempted. This is a good compromise, but hardly a hole in the firewall - it is not a hole in a firewall to block connections using certain standard ports. And as for stopping the firewall using another Windows command - absolutely no evidence supplied. FUD!. Windows Firewall is pretty good.

If some work went into aesthetic design (e.g. Apple) or were exceptioanlly groundbreaking or they defined culture (e.g. old arcade cabinets) they would be interesting but in my personal opinion they aren't (feel free not to share my point of view).

It is sort of like setting up an old dishwasher museum really. Technology has advanced but they're not that interesting to look at either.

Emulators preserve the real point of interest in old computers.
